Book Understanding the Consecrated Life in Canada

Download or read book Understanding the Consecrated Life in Canada written by Jason Zuidema and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2015-12-21 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of the consecrated life in Canada since the 1960s should be about much more than numerical decline. Although the falling numbers are significant among Catholic religious in communities that pre-date Vatican II, many communities continue to show stability and even growth. This book provides nuance to that story by adding detailed portraits of movements, communities and institutions. In four parts, this book presents essays from the leading scholars on religious life in Canada that seek to address the state of religious communities dedicated to religious virtuosity normally characterized by formal promises of chastity, poverty, and obedience. The essays examine a broad range of topics related to the general state of consecrated (or “religious” or “monastic”) life in contemporary Canadian Christian and Buddhist traditions. In the first section, the contributors trace the demographics and definitions of religious life in Canada. The second section examines Canadian developments in Catholic religious life during the Vatican II and the post-Vatican II eras. A third section explores trends in contemporary Canadian religious life, while the fourth section describes the consecrated life in other Canadian religious traditions.

  • Author : Werner G. Jeanrond
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2020-02-20
  • ISBN : 0567668967

Download or read book Reasons to Hope written by Werner G. Jeanrond and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Werner G. Jeanrond approaches hope from the perspective of a theology of love. He distinguishes human hopes from the hope which God has given to humanity. Jeanrond discusses the challenges of a Christian praxis of hope in today's world and invites both a new conversation on a future with God and a reassessment of the potential of hope for Christian discipleship. Jeanrond argues that memory is important for hope, and that nobody can hope for herself or himself alone. Hope thus invites personal, communal, political and global participation and transformation. Moreover, it gives rise to a powerful constellation of symbolic expressions, including judgement, heaven, hell, and purgatory, that call for ongoing interpretation. Ranging from radical hope and the hope for salvation, to the power of judgment and contemporary fears about the future of nations, humankind and the world, Jeanrond's latest work offers a theological contribution to the multireligious conversation on hope, death and the human future in our universe.

Book R criture Des Mythes

Download or read book R criture Des Mythes written by Joëlle Cauville and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 1997 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book The Construction of Homosexuality written by David F. Greenberg and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-10-29 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "At various times, homosexuality has been considered the noblest of loves, a horrible sin, a psychological condition or grounds for torture and execution. David F. Greenberg's careful, encyclopedic and important new book argues that homosexuality is only deviant because society has constructed, or defined, it as deviant. The book takes us over vast terrains of example and detail in the history of homosexuality."—Nicholas B. Dirks, New York Times Book Review

Book Consuming Experience

Download or read book Consuming Experience written by Antonella Caru and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the ‘hot topic’ of the experiential consumption in an accessible manner and from a unique industry perspective which is not used in any other book. It highlights the idea that an experience is not something that can be readily managed by firms and is not limited to the market: an individual’s daily life is made up of consuming experiences that can occur with or without a market relation. Offering an overview of the consumption experience, it outlines a continuum of experiences of consumption that consumers go through, including: those that are mainly constructed by consumers around small items that comprise their daily life, such as organic products and non-profit or local associations those that have been co-developed by companies and consumers: tourism or adventure projects, rock concerts and cultural events those that have been largely developed by the companies where consumers are immersed in a hyper-real context such as fashion, sports brands, edutainment and retail. Broad and comprehensive, this book provides a challenging vision of the consumption experience, which is an invaluable tool for all those studying marketing and consumer behaviour.
