Book Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering

Download or read book Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering written by Sanjay Kumar Shukla and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2006-09-12 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering provides an overview of the basic concepts of this subject, especially meeting the requirements of students in civil engineering as well as of practising civil engineers who have not been educated in geosynthetics during their university training. All major aspects related to the field applications, including application guidelines and descriptions of case studies, have been included with a view to generate full confidence in the engineering use of geosynthetics. The book contains a large number of line drawings, sketches, graphs, photographs, and tables to explain the (basic) concepts of all the topics covered. Intended to explain the fundamentals of geosynthetic engineering. Readers will find this book interactive and wll understand the basic concepts of most of the topics by self-reading only.

Book Engineering Criteria for Use of Geotextile Fabrics in Pavement and Railroad Construction

Download or read book Engineering Criteria for Use of Geotextile Fabrics in Pavement and Railroad Construction written by Richard H. Grau and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available literature concerning the use of geotextiles as separator mechanisms between angular granular and subgrade materials used in the construction of roadways and railroads is presented. Procedures and results of tests using a model load cart with a rolling wheel load to evaluate geotextiles are also presented. The model load cart provides a fast and excellent means of applying a large number of traffic cycles to an aggregate geotextile subgrade system in a short period of time. Criteria for selecting geotextiles to be used in road and railroad construction by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are analyzed. A separator mechanism is generally provided between layers in the pavement system for low-volume trafficked short lifetime roadways of any geotextile, but a nonwoven, needle-punched, polyester fabric is required for long-term, high-volume usage. The fabric can weigh a minimum of 4 oz/sq yd and can transmit water laterally. Geotextiles used in railroad construction can be placed 10-12 in. below the bottom of railroad ties to minimize abrasive damage caused by full depth tamping.

Book Geotextiles and Geomembranes in Civil Engineering

Download or read book Geotextiles and Geomembranes in Civil Engineering written by G.P.T.M. van Santvoort and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geotextiles and geomembranes, made from synthetic polymers such as woven or non-woven fabrics, membranes, sheets and composites, have a variety of uses: in erosion control systems, embankments, pollution control systems, water storage, drainage and road construction. Taking all these applications into consideration, numerous laboratory and prototype tests were performed, the results of which have been published in this handbook, which includes sections on: · geotextile and geomembrane history · function analysis · production technology · project realization · soil reinforcement Designed for civil engineers, this text covers a broad range of areas and provides a useful handbook for those working with geotextiles and geomembranes.
