Book Constrained Dynamics Computations Models Case Studies

Download or read book Constrained Dynamics Computations Models Case Studies written by Bud Fox and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-09-04 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces a practical approach to the modelling and computation of real-world systems. Multibody dynamics, planar and spatial modelling, and numerical methods are all pursued to obtain information about the behaviour of various dynamical systems. Each study presents the method of modelling and the ensuing differential equations governing the system behaviour. Integration of the equations yields results which are carefully discussed and which indicate how useful information may be obtained from the study. The studies include planar mechanisms, heavy equipment, automobile crash simulation and a spatial planetary system example. Research students, scientists and engineers will appreciate the practical approach taken in this book.

Book Real time PDE constrained Optimization

Download or read book Real time PDE constrained Optimization written by Lorenz T. Biegler and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many engineering and scientific problems in design, control, and parameter estimation can be formulated as optimization problems that are governed by partial differential equations (PDEs). The complexities of the PDEs--and the requirement for rapid solution--pose significant difficulties. A particularly challenging class of PDE-constrained optimization problems is characterized by the need for real-time solution, i.e., in time scales that are sufficiently rapid to support simulation-based decision making. Real-Time PDE-Constrained Optimization, the first book devoted to real-time optimization for systems governed by PDEs, focuses on new formulations, methods, and algorithms needed to facilitate real-time, PDE-constrained optimization. In addition to presenting state-of-the-art algorithms and formulations, the text illustrates these algorithms with a diverse set of applications that includes problems in the areas of aerodynamics, biology, fluid dynamics, medicine, chemical processes, homeland security, and structural dynamics. Audience: readers who have expertise in simulation and are interested in incorporating optimization into their simulations, who have expertise in numerical optimization and are interested in adapting optimization methods to the class of infinite-dimensional simulation problems, or who have worked in "offline" optimization contexts and are interested in moving to "online" optimization.

Book Scientific Computing with Case Studies

Download or read book Scientific Computing with Case Studies written by Dianne P. O'Leary and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2009-03-19 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a practical guide to the numerical solution of linear and nonlinear equations, differential equations, optimization problems, and eigenvalue problems. It treats standard problems and introduces important variants such as sparse systems, differential-algebraic equations, constrained optimization, Monte Carlo simulations, and parametric studies. Stability and error analysis are emphasized, and the Matlab algorithms are grounded in sound principles of software design and understanding of machine arithmetic and memory management. Nineteen case studies provide experience in mathematical modeling and algorithm design, motivated by problems in physics, engineering, epidemiology, chemistry, and biology. The topics included go well beyond the standard first-course syllabus, introducing important problems such as differential-algebraic equations and conic optimization problems, and important solution techniques such as continuation methods. The case studies cover a wide variety of fascinating applications, from modeling the spread of an epidemic to determining truss configurations.

Book Algorithms for Solving Dynamic Models with Occasionally Binding Constraints

Download or read book Algorithms for Solving Dynamic Models with Occasionally Binding Constraints written by Lawrence J. Christiano and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We describe and compare several algorithms for approximating the solution to a model in" which inequality constraints occasionally bind. Their performance is evaluated and compared" using various parameterizations of the one sector growth model with irreversible investment. We" develop parameterized expectation algorithms which, on the basis of speed convenience of implementation, appear to dominate the other algorithms."

Book Classical and Quantum Dynamics of Constrained Hamiltonian Systems

Download or read book Classical and Quantum Dynamics of Constrained Hamiltonian Systems written by Heinz J. Rothe and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the field of constrained Hamiltonian systems and their quantization, a topic which is of central interest to theoretical physicists who wish to obtain a deeper understanding of the quantization of gauge theories, such as describing the fundamental interactions in nature. Beginning with the early work of Dirac, the book covers the main developments in the field up to more recent topics, such as the field?antifield formalism of Batalin and Vilkovisky, including a short discussion of how gauge anomalies may be incorporated into this formalism. All topics are well illustrated with examples emphasizing points of central interest. The book should enable graduate students to follow the literature on this subject without much problems, and to perform research in this field.

Book Recent Advances in Control and Filtering of Dynamic Systems with Constrained Signals

Download or read book Recent Advances in Control and Filtering of Dynamic Systems with Constrained Signals written by Ju H. Park and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the principle theories and applications of control and filtering problems to address emerging hot topics in feedback systems. With the development of IT technology at the core of the 4th industrial revolution, dynamic systems are becoming more sophisticated, networked, and advanced to achieve even better performance. However, this evolutionary advance in dynamic systems also leads to unavoidable constraints. In particular, such elements in control systems involve uncertainties, communication/transmission delays, external noise, sensor faults and failures, data packet dropouts, sampling and quantization errors, and switching phenomena, which have serious effects on the system’s stability and performance. This book discusses how to deal with such constraints to guarantee the system’s design objectives, focusing on real-world dynamical systems such as Markovian jump systems, networked control systems, neural networks, and complex networks, which have recently excited considerable attention. It also provides a number of practical examples to show the applicability of the presented methods and techniques. This book is of interest to graduate students, researchers and professors, as well as R&D engineers involved in control theory and applications looking to analyze dynamical systems with constraints and to synthesize various types of corresponding controllers and filters for optimal performance of feedback systems.

Book Integrated Computational Materials Engineering

Download or read book Integrated Computational Materials Engineering written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-10-24 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) is an emerging discipline that can accelerate materials development and unify design and manufacturing. Developing ICME is a grand challenge that could provide significant economic benefit. To help develop a strategy for development of this new technology area, DOE and DoD asked the NRC to explore its benefits and promises, including the benefits of a comprehensive ICME capability; to establish a strategy for development and maintenance of an ICME infrastructure, and to make recommendations about how best to meet these opportunities. This book provides a vision for ICME, a review of case studies and lessons learned, an analysis of technological barriers, and an evaluation of ways to overcome cultural and organizational challenges to develop the discipline.
