Book Constitutive Modeling of Rocks with Internal Cracks

Download or read book Constitutive Modeling of Rocks with Internal Cracks written by Dusan Krajcinovic and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analytical model discussed and formulated in this report focuses on the derivation of a constitutive model for low-porosity, crystalline rocks subjected to compressive stresses. The proposed model is inspired by micromechanical analyses of the kinked-crack mechanism. The report also discusses advantages and limitations of the proposed model listing topics requiring further research. An illustrative example indicates that the suggested methodology leads to a relatively simple and tractable model which was, nevertheless, able to replicate major trends in the deformation process of a Westerly granite specimen in uniaxial compression. AH major material parameters in the proposed analytical model are physically identifiable and experimentally measurable. Brittle response, Microcracks, Granite, Rock, Stress-strain, Kinked crack.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications is a collection of scientific and technical papers presented at the Third International Conference on Rock Dynamics and Applications (RocDyn-3, Trondheim, Norway, 26-27 June 2018). The papers in the book reflect the recent developments in experiment and theory as well as engineering applications of rock dynamics. Rock dynamics studies the response of rock and rock masses under dynamic loading and during the state transition from static loading to kinetic movement. It also includes the study of engineering countermeasures to dynamic instability of rock and rock masses. The topics in the book include: - Dynamic theories - Numerical simulation - Propagation of stress waves - Dynamic tests of rock - Stability of underground openings under dynamic loading - Rockburst - Seismic monitoring - Dynamic rock support - Blasting - Earthquake-related rock structure damage, etc. Applications, such as rockburst, dynamic rock support, seismic monitoring, blasting and earthquake-related rock structure damage, are paid special attention in Rock Dynamics – Experiments, Theories and Applications. The papers, from specialists both from mining and tunnelling branches, discuss commonly interested dynamic issues. Their experience and knowledge in the application of rock dynamics are extremely valuable for all academics, engineers and professionals who work with rock dynamics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second edition of the well-known textbook Modelling Rock Fracturing Processes. The new and extended edition provides the theoretical background of rock fracture mechanics used for modelling of 2-D and 3-D geomechanics problems and processes. Fundamentals of rock fracture mechanics integrated with experimental studies of rock fracturing processes are highlighted. The computer programs FRACOD 2D and 3D are used to analyse fracture initiation and propagation for the three fracture modes: Mode I, II and III. Coupled fracture modelling with other continuous and distinct element codes including FLAC, PFC, RFPA, TOUGH are also described. A series of applications of fracture modelling with importance for modern society is presented and discussed by distinguished rock fracture modelling experts.

Book Fracture Mechanics of Rock

Download or read book Fracture Mechanics of Rock written by Barry Kean Atkinson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-05-11 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of crack problems through fracture mechanics has been applied to the study of materials such as glass, metals and ceramics because relatively simple fracture criteria describe the failure of these materials. The increased attention paid to experimental rock fracture mechanics has led to major contributions to the solving of geophysical problems. The text presents a concise treatment of the physics and mathematics of a representative selection of problems from areas such as earthquake mechanics and prediction, hydraulic fracturing, hot dry rock geothermal energy, fault mechanics, and dynamic fragmentation.
