Download or read book Ragged written by Gretchen Ronnevik and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we mistake spiritual disciplines for to-dos, time slots on our schedule, or Instagram-able moments, we miss the benefits of Christ's continual and constant work for us. In Ragged, Gretchen Ronnevik aims to reclaim spiritual disciplines as good gifts given by our good Father instead of heavy burdens of performance carried by the Christian. Only when we recognize our failures to maintain God's commands do we also realize the benefit of our dependence on his promises. Gretchen uses this distinction on law and gospel, presented throughout Scripture, to guide readers through spiritual disciplines including prayer, meditation, Scripture reading, and discipleship among others. Despite our best efforts, the good news is that spiritual disciplines have less to do with what we bring before God and more about who Christ is for us, not only as the author but also as the perfector of our faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives today's Lutherans a sense of heritage, identity and continuity, a sense of self-understanding. Readers will see themselves as part of a family. They can identify with the struggles, hopes, and frustrations of wave after wave of immigrants adapting to the strange new world of America and at the same time trying to preserve all they had known and loved and brought with them from the homeland. The genius of the entire volume is that it points beyond family memories to an ongoing and continuing life of which we and our children are a living part. Contributors: Theodore G. Tappert, Eugene Fevold, Fred W. Meuser, H. George Anderson, August R. Suelflow, and E. Clifford Nelson.

Book Christian Law

  • Author : Norman Doe
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2013-09-12
  • ISBN : 1107469864
  • Pages : 449 pages

Download or read book Christian Law written by Norman Doe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-09-12 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian Law: Contemporary Principles offers a detailed comparison of the laws of churches across ten distinct Christian traditions worldwide: Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed, Presbyterian, United, Congregational and Baptist. From this comparison, Professor Doe proposes that all denominations of the faith share common principles in spite of their doctrinal divisions; and that these principles reveal a concept of 'Christian law' and contribute to a theological understanding of global Christian identity. Adopting a unique interdisciplinary approach, the book provides comprehensive coverage on the sources and purposes of church law, the faithful (lay and ordained), the institutions of church governance, discipline and dispute resolution, doctrine and worship, the rites of passage, ecumenism, property and finance, as well as church, State and society. This is an invaluable resource for lawyers and theologians who are engaged in ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, showing how dogmas may divide but laws link Christians across traditions.

Book DENOMINATIONS FROM GOD OR MAN

Download or read book DENOMINATIONS FROM GOD OR MAN written by John F. Lugger and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-06-17 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book continues the series with a focus on the Eastern Orthodox Churches, following their split in A.D.1054 from Roman Catholicism, which set a floor for ongoing heresies, man-made doctrines, and pronouncements, with influential church leaders pioneering these atrocities as equal bearers of authority in the same manner as the Holy Scriptures. Exploring the early councils, attended by numerous Catholic/Orthodox bishops, which convened between A.D. 325 and 787, the author seeks to explain not only the reason for the split but what set the tone or ‘floor’ leading to this rebellion against God’s Divine Authority. The decisions/proclamations of the first seven councils hailed and elevated by these bishops as “Holy”, “Divine”, and “Authoritative”, were uncovered instead to be nothing more than man-made, hypocritical, and on occasion, even deceitful - plagiarizing God’s Word as if It were their own words of wisdom! (Exp. First Council, Canon 2 / 1 Timothy 3:6). This rebellion played out into a ‘Reformation,’ with Martin Luther pulling away, resulting in the first ‘protesting’ or protestant denomination, the Lutheran Church. Unfortunately, the Lutherans only modified the beliefs of their mother church – trading a pope for Synods, a restrictive liturgy for ‘faith only salvation’, and Holy Tradition for Confessions and Creeds. These modifications, a mixture of truth with non-truth, to this day make discernment of God’s desired work and worship more difficult to discern, and ‘worshipping in vain’ the more likely result. (Matthew 15:9). Paul told the Colossians, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all (not some) in the name (authority) of the Lord Jesus” (Col. 3:17). Mixing truth with non-truth is like being ‘lukewarm’ – neither cold nor hot, neither all in, nor all out – our Lord had something to say regarding this did He not? (Revelation 3:15-16).

Book Ancient Faith and American born Churches

Download or read book Ancient Faith and American born Churches written by Ted Campbell and published by Paulist Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ANCIENT FAITH AND AMERICAN-BORN CHURCHES is a groundbreaking book that brings together in dialogue, representatives of various Christian churches which function as though they were in completely different worlds. These dialogues were undertaken by the ecclesiology study group of the Faith and Order Commission, National Council of the Churches Christ. Churches originating in pre-American (pre-United States) experience were brought into dialogue with churches in the American experience, i.e., a dialogue between Roman Catholic and Baptist traditions. Some of the topics explored in the eight dialogues are apostolicity, Christian Initiation, and the authority and function of scripture. The result then is a dialogue that exemplifies much of what is best in the modern ecumenical movement. Though the participants live and work in different ecclesial communities, they were able to see each other as friends and faith--"faith that recognizes Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
