Download or read book Consider the Stars written by John Lindsay and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consider the Stars will not only be a delight to read, it will be a valued experience to be shared over and over again. Whether you make reading the seasonal stories a tradition or use its lessons to supplement your Bible study, church service or simply entertain your youth group, Consider the Stars will be an active tool in your library. In addition to the sketches and correlating lesson plans that make up the majority of the book, a short study of acting is included at the end of the book with its focus bent toward the Christian actor by understanding that everything a person chooses to do or not to do is based on a belief system. Why is drama important in presenting moral principles? It's often difficult to repeat what was preached even a moment ago, much less apply it, yet we can all recall a song or story that we heard even decades ago. Likewise, whether you believe he is who he says he is or not, Jesus is remembered mainly because he didn't tell us which way to go...he showed us through the stories he told and the life he lived.

Download or read book Cartography of the Sun and the Stars written by Jean-Pierre Rozelot and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-11 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mapping of the surface of stars requires diverse skills, analysis techniques and advanced modeling, i.e. the collaboration of scientists in various specialties. This volume gives insights into new techniques allowing for the first time to obtain resolved images of stars. It takes stock of what has been achieved so far in Chile, on the ESO VLTI instrument or, in the States, on the CHARA instrument. In recent times interferometry, combined with adaptive optics has allowed to reconstruct images of stars. Besides the Sun (of course) by now five stars have been resolved in detail. In addition to interferometry, this book highlights techniques used for mapping the surfaces of stars using photometry made by space observatories; Zeeman- and Doppler Imaging; mapping the surface element abundances via spectroscopy. This book will also take stock of the best images of the solar surface, made by connecting the differential rotation to the underlying physical parameters derived from helioseismology. Recent measurements of flattening of the solar surface by SDO showed that the Sun’s shape is linked to the rotation of the core. It is shown how such a result is generalizable to the stars.
Download or read book Life and Death of the Stars written by Ganesan Srinivasan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-13 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to one of the fascinating things about stars: how they evolve as they age. This evolution is different for stars of different masses. How stars end their lives when their supply of energy is exhausted also depends on their masses. Interestingly, astronomers conjectured about the ultimate fate of the stars even before the details of their evolution became clear. Part I of this book gives an account of the remarkable predictions made during the 1920s and 1930s concerning the ultimate fate of stars. Since much of this development hinged on quantum physics that emerged during this time, a detailed introduction to the relevant physics is included in the book. Part II is a summary of the life history of stars. This discussion is divided into three parts: low-mass stars, like our Sun, intermediate-mass stars, and massive stars. Many of the concepts of contemporary astrophysics were built on the foundation erected by Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in the 1930s. This book, written during his birth centenary, includes a brief biographical sketch of the brilliant scientist, which readers will find fascinating. Reading this book will get young students excited about the presently unfolding revolution in astronomy and the challenges that await them in the world of physics, engineering and technology. General readers will also find the book appealing for its highly accessible narrative of the physics of stars. This book is a companion volume of “What are the Stars?” by the same author. "I know of no other book on the evolution of stars of a similar scope and breadth that is so accessible for undergraduate students." E P J van den Heuvel Professor of Astrophysics Winner of the Spinoza and Descartes PrizesUniversity of Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Download or read book Beyond the Stars written by Paolo Saraceno and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The first part discusses the origins of everything, from the Big Bang to humankind. It follows the long course of evolution - from original matter to the formation of more complex structures, from the furthest galaxies to the nearest stars, from planets to organic molecules, from the first and most elementary forms of life through to the reptiles, the dinosaurs and the advent of man. The second part traces the history of the Earth and evaluates the risks of extinction in the future as predicted by scientists. Is the Earth the only habitable planet in the Universe? This question initiates the discussion on the importance of the Earth's position in the solar system and the significance of our geologically alive planet. The final part is dedicated to the search for extraterrestrial beings with identifiable life forms. It also describes attempts for searching, from the past to the near future." --Publisher's website.
Download or read book ANCIENT EGYPT JERUSALEM AND THE STARS ARCHAEOASTRONOMICAL EVIDENCE OF A SECRET SACRED ASTRONOMY written by GIACOMO ALBANO and published by WWW.ASTROLOGIAPREVISIONALE.NET. This book was released on 2023-02-25 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining the astronomical alignments of the main Egyptian monuments, the author shows that almost none of them is oriented to the rise or set of Sirius or Orion at the time of construction. How is it possible? The reader will discover that in reality all are oriented in some way to the rising points of the stars of Orion or Sirius when they were in the extreme phases of their cycle. Since there is not only one of the most important Egyptian monuments that escapes this rule of orientation, it is evident that it was the true "secret" technique behind these choices. Being a specialist in stellar astrology, in the last part of the book the author shows how these "stellar mechanisms" have worked well beyond the field of Archaeoastronomy. He illustrates the most important encadrement by declination - active for thousands of years and still active - involving some of the brightest stars in the firmament. We will see how and why Giza and Jerusalem been the places where it has most strongly manifested the greatest effects in the field of sacred and religions, albeit in different ways and for different reasons. The truth is that the Sacred Astronomy practiced by the Egyptians is completely unknown to contemporary scholars. Moreover it was not a simple belief or superstition of that people. It is the Supreme Science that describes how the cosmos really works, and not only for the events of sacred history. The Egyptian priests and initiates probably derived this knowledge from a tradition dating back to the dawn of time. Since these stellar configurations regulate not only the most important events of sacred and prophane history, but also the places the events that occur, their knowledge may open new scenarios for human knowledge, far superior and far more "radical" of the much acclaimed scientific discoveries that are not able to identify the primary and occult causes of events, nor to reveal the Mystery that surrounds our existence.

This book was released on 1998-12-24 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the knowledge of ancient Greek science survived through Byzantine codices. A short Byzantine article, extant in three manuscripts, contains advanced astronomical ideas and pre-Copernican diagrams; it presents improvements on ancient and medieval astronomy. This important book includes the edited version and translation of the text and analyzes its content. It surveys the development of astronomical models from Ptolemy to Byzantium and compares them mathematically with several works of Arab astronomers, as well as with the heliocentric system of Copernicus and Newton.
Download or read book Nuclear Physics of Stars written by Christian Iliadis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-03-19 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most elements are synthesized, or "cooked", by thermonuclear reactions in stars. The newly formed elements are released into the interstellar medium during a star's lifetime, and are subsequently incorporated into a new generation of stars, into the planets that form around the stars, and into the life forms that originate on the planets. Moreover, the energy we depend on for life originates from nuclear reactions that occur at the center of the Sun. Synthesis of the elements and nuclear energy production in stars are the topics of nuclear astrophysics, which is the subject of this book. It presents nuclear structure and reactions, thermonuclear reaction rates, experimental nuclear methods, and nucleosynthesis in detail. These topics are discussed in a coherent way, enabling the reader to grasp their interconnections intuitively. The book serves both as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, with worked examples and end-of-chapter excercises, but also as a reference book for use by researchers working in the field of nuclear astrophysics.
