Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

Book The role of consecrated life in the mission of the church in China today

Download or read book The role of consecrated life in the mission of the church in China today written by Joseph Zhang Wei (Father, CDD) and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China has changed tremendously in the past years. The people are looking for meaning in their lives. Since the Church reopened in China, the atmosphere has been filled with astonishing vigor and creativity. The Church in China wishes to make a significant impact on Chinese society today. The religious communities are revived in 1980s ; once again, consecrated men and women are able to work different ways to serve the local church. At present, there are several thousands of young people who have joined the religious life, and more than four hundred convents are now open throughout China. Today's China citizens are subjected to many challenges in their fast changing society. The Church and consecrated life must deal creatively and positively in reply to the uprising trend of secularization. In the mission of the Church in China today, the Church need to bear witness to, and proclaim, the "good news" in ways that are appropriate to the present culture. FABC states about the call of the Spirit to the local churches in Asia - it is a call to a renewed mission of love and service ; it is a call to the local Churches to be faithful to Asian cultural, spiritual and social values and thus, to be identified as truly inculturated local churches. It involves dialogue with culture and religion, and the need to be in solidarity with the poor. Consecrated men and women are called to play an important role in these situations by actively engaging themselves in the mission of the Church. Religious should be able to live among the people, and bear witness to the Gospel values. The role of the religious within the Church, therefore, is to bear witness and to encourage the people of God and the world, by their way of life.

Book The mission of consecrated life in the context of Madagascar today

Download or read book The mission of consecrated life in the context of Madagascar today written by Ramanandraibe Benoit Fidele (MSF) and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I'm a missionary from Madagascar and I belong to the consecrated life. Working in this thesis has been for me an activity of retrospection and personal renewal. It has been a challenge and an opportunity. I have learned to look at my missionary life and the Madagascar missionary context in a new light. In this I hope that the Madagascar Church and society may have full benefit from the journey undertaken in this thesis. The context of Madagascar needs a trajectory of renewal in religious life and mission in this third millenium. The Church's understanding and practice of her mission, as well as her motives, evolve as societies encounter one another and as they evolve. The tension between faith and daily life of people in this fast-changing world obliges consecrated life in Madagascar to move on, rethink and reframe its vision-mission. A mission that starts from above seems to be no longer fitting for the Malagasy context today. In Madagascar where there are many Churches and diverse religions, an evangelization which aims to bring people into the Catholic Church as possessor of truth sounds imperialistic. In Malagasy society threatened by division, consecrated life is called to facilitate reconciliation and communion. The Madagascar Church and society today urge consecrated persons to understand their mission beyond a simple observance of laws in their convent and in the Catholic Church. Consecrated life should not be a way of neglecting the reality in the world. A total donation to God and to be a sign of future life should never be an excuse not to face the present situation in this world. Consecrated men and women are called to commit themselves with the people around them for the sake of God's Reign in the world, and to bring people to the fullness of life. The mission of consecrated life does not happen in the abstract ; it must concretely respond to the challenges of the time. The issues of poverty, culture, religions, and formation in Madagascar today oblige consecrated life to move towards a new praxis. Vatical Council II documents propose a new perspective on the mission of the Church, a new perspective on consecrated life, and on its mission. It is also proposed that a theology of mission must adhere to constants and yet flexibly and creatively respond to different contexts. Therefore, mission of consecrated life in Madagascar today must start from below. Consecrated men and women must see and have concern for the present Malagasy experiences. They have to see the condition and situation of people around them, they have to discern it with evangelical criteria and according to Christ's message of God's Reign and they have to act to respond to the needs and challenges of the situations around them. That is the reason why we use a pastoral approach of "see-discern-act" in this study. A "missionary is not a person who always brings something and gives it to the people where he/she carries out a mission. He/she has to learn from context and human experiences. It means, a missionary must be ready to receive in a dialogical way from others, not only to give insights.

Through his writings, 'Keep Watch' examines the prophetic role of consecrated people in the life of the Church. Like Old Testament prophets, consecrated people have a unique role to read and respond to the times in which they live, building on the heritage of consecrated life as a watchful pilgrimage, lived in discipleship to Christ and guided by the Spirit"--Page 4 of cover.
