Book Conquering the AMC 8

Download or read book Conquering the AMC 8 written by Jai Sharma and published by Jai Sharma. This book was released on with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Mathematics Competition (AMC) series is a group of contests that judge students’ mathematical abilities in the form of a timed test. The AMC 8 is the introductory level competition in this series and is taken by tens of thousands of students every year in grades 8 and below. Students are given 40 minutes to complete the 25 question test. Every right answer receives 1 point and there is no penalty for wrong or missing answers, so the maximum possible score is 25/25. While all AMC 8 problems can be solved without any knowledge of trigonometry, calculus, or more advanced high school mathematics, they can be tantalizingly difficult to attempt without much prior experience and can take many years to master because problems often have complex wording and test the knowledge of mathematical concepts that are not covered in the school curriculum. This book is meant to teach the skills necessary to solve mostly any problem on the AMC 8. However, our goal is to not only teach you how to perfect the AMC 8, but we also want you to learn and understand the topics presented as if you were in a classroom setting. Above all, the first and foremost goal is for you to have a good time learning math! The units that will be covered in this book are the following: - Test Taking Strategies for the AMC 8 - Number Sense in the AMC 8 - Number Theory in the AMC 8 - Algebra in the AMC 8 - Counting and Probability in the AMC 8 - Geometry in the AMC 8 - Advanced Competition Tricks for the AMC 8

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an enquiry into the elision of the figure of the sovereign, cotton-producing Garo in the colonial archive and its savage transformation into imperialism’s quintessential ‘primitive’ in the period between 1760 CE and 1900 CE. The precolonial political economy of hill cotton produced by the Garos, its unhinging from the exercise of Garo sovereignty and its eventual commodification twined with the deterritorialization of the community as it made way for elephant mehals and reserved forests form the kernel of the book. This history is seen as participating in and mirroring analogous processes of colonization across vast contiguous swathes of India, including Mymensingh, Chittagong, Bhagalpur, the Khasi hills and the Cachar valley. A central theme explored is the long history of Garo rebellions and their rationality, examined in conjunction with contiguous polities such as that of the Khasis; even as the book follows the growing arc of colonial power in eastern and northeastern India as it converted territory and revenue appropriated through conquest, into dominium. The book makes an original contribution to the historiography of the colonial state, the ‘tribe’ and primitivism by making a case for the welded histories of war, ethnogenesis, revenue extraction and anthropological knowledge otherwise often studied as disparate fields of scholarship. It therefore also offers a new interpretation of the history of the colonization of eastern and northeastern India. The book will be of interest to academics and researchers of these regions and of empire and political economy, law and ‘primitivism’, and anthropology and colonial revenue.

Book How I Conquered Schizophrenia

Download or read book How I Conquered Schizophrenia written by Nancy Stackhouse and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The causes of schizophrenia are many, including extreme stress, chemical imbalance, reaction to drugs, genetic predisposition, isolation, low self-esteem, and even a damaged or weakened aura (a supposed emanation surrounding the body of a living creature viewed by mystics, spiritualists, and some practitioners of complementary medicine as the essence of the individual and allegedly discernible by people with special sensibilities). My personal onset of schizophrenia and depression at age forty-two was caused, I believe, by a combination of the above. Through the caring help of family, friends, medical doctors, healers, and my own insights and intuitions, I was able to become completely free of the symptoms of schizophrenia and all antipsychotic and antidepressant medications used to treat the illness. Most influential and important to my healing and recovery, however, was the utilization of both borrowed and original strategies that keep me healthy to this day. The sharing of these strategies, which include identifying one's gifts; relying on family members, friends, and caregivers; improving one's self-esteem; identifying one's authentic self; connecting with healers; being in gratitude; setting goals; and using positive affirmations for the purpose of recovering and maintaining positive mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health is the reason why I have written this book.

Download or read book Conquering Complexity written by Mike Hinchey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-02 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software has long been perceived as complex, at least within Software Engineering circles. We have been living in a recognised state of crisis since the first NATO Software Engineering conference in 1968. Time and again we have been proven unable to engineer reliable software as easily/cheaply as we imagined. Cost overruns and expensive failures are the norm. The problem is fundamentally one of complexity: software is fundamentally complex because it must be precise. Problems that appear to be specified quite easily in plain language become far more complex when written in a more formal notation, such as computer code. Comparisons with other engineering disciplines are deceptive. One cannot easily increase the factor of safety of software in the same way that one could in building a steel structure, for example. Software is typically built assuming perfection, often without adequate safety nets in case the unthinkable happens. In such circumstances it should not be surprising to find out that (seemingly) minor errors have the potential to cause entire software systems to collapse. The goal of this book is to uncover techniques that will aid in overcoming complexity and enable us to produce reliable, dependable computer systems that will operate as intended, and yet are produced on-time, in budget, and are evolvable, both over time and at run time. We hope that the contributions in this book will aid in understanding the nature of software complexity and provide guidance for the control or avoidance of complexity in the engineering of complex software systems.

Book Electrical Conquest

Download or read book Electrical Conquest written by W. Bernard Carlson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-02-09 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, drawing on fresh scholarship, investigates electrification in new places and across different time periods. While much of our understanding of electrification as a historical process is based on the seminal work done by Thomas P. Hughes in Networks of Power (1983), the scholars in this volume expand and revise Hughes’ systems approach to suggest that electrification is a heterogeneous and contingent process. Moreover, the contributors suggest that the conquest of the world by electricity remains incomplete despite more than a century elapsing. Above all, though, this book provides context for thinking about what lies ahead as humans continue their conquest of the earth through electricity. As we become increasingly dependent on electricity to power our lights, heat and cool our homes, turn the wheels of industry, and keep our information systems humming, so we are ever more vulnerable when the grid runs into trouble.
