Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Estey Centre Journal of International Law and Trade Policy has become required reading among trade policy specialists, not least for Bill Kerr's "Editor's Pages" essay in each volume. Kerr has the ability in a dozen pages to engage, inform and entertain the reader with his careful scholarship, interesting choice of topic and highly-readable style. Kerr sets the tone for the volume and whets the appetite for the other articles. Over the ten years of the Estey Journal's life Kerr's pages have drawn our attention to a range of trade-law topics from the golf-club-like voting rules of the WTO to the delights of sipping incorrectly-labeled port. The decision to bring these twenty short papers together in a volume was inspired. Students and teachers will benefit from the convenience of the collection as source material for classes on trade law and policy. But above all, scholars in the fascinating area of the interplay of economics and law in multilateral trade institutions will have the wisdom of Bill Kerr readily to hand.

Book American Confusion from Vietnam to Kosovo

Download or read book American Confusion from Vietnam to Kosovo written by William R. Taylor and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Taylor presents an original theory of the dynamics of confusion in governments and in the lives of ordinary citizens. His model postulates a vicious cycle in which the causes of confusion evoke coping tactics which often worsen those causes. One of the most destructive coping tactics, “Find-an-Enemy-and-Lose-Your-Confusion” spawns conflict and increases the lies and other information pathology already circulating. “Exports” from this vicious cycle include environmental depredation, political oppression, war and death. Using his model, he illuminates the binds entrapping Robert McNamara and Lyndon Johnson as they expanded the Vietnam War in 1965. He then extends the theory using fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs), and submits the model to the ultimate test: forecasting in “real time” certain events in the 1999 NATO-Serbia War and its aftermath. He published these predictions on his web site during and after that war. This project represents the first use of FCMs to forecast political-military events in real time. The concluding chapters test whether a knowledge of confusion dynamics will increase empathy between opponents, and whether the model is useful for planning humanitarian efforts by betterment organizations.

Book Conflict in the Horn of Africa

Download or read book Conflict in the Horn of Africa written by Vincent Bakpetu Thompson and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conflict in the Horn of Africa examines how the Kenya-Somalia border problem has deep roots in pre-colonial and colonial times mirroring the phenomenon of shifting territorial and human frontiers and treaties which Britain, France, Italy, and Ethiopia made before and after World Wars I and II. This book documents the Kenya-Somalia border problem from the nineteenth century, when decisions ignored African concerns, to independence, when Africans acted as the principal players. Vincent Bakpetu Thompson analyses how the crises regarding Kenya and Somalia’s domestic situations impacted their international relations in and beyond the region. This book furthers the discussion by looking at the current problems in the region that are obscured by instability, infiltrations, the repetitive influx of refugees crossing and re-crossing the border, and increasing terrorist attacks.

The political intrigue of decisions that would have started World War II is dramatically described in Chaos, Confusion, and Political Ignorance: June 28 - August 5, 1914: The Untold Truth about the Start of World War II. Book It s Not Always Depression

Download or read book It s Not Always Depression written by Hilary Jacobs Hendel and published by Random House. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fascinating patient stories and dynamic exercises help you connect to healing emotions, ease anxiety and depression, and discover your authentic self. Sara suffered a debilitating fear of asserting herself. Spencer experienced crippling social anxiety. Bonnie was shut down, disconnected from her feelings. These patients all came to psychotherapist Hilary Jacobs Hendel seeking treatment for depression, but in fact none of them were chemically depressed. Rather, Jacobs Hendel found that they’d all experienced traumas in their youth that caused them to put up emotional defenses that masqueraded as symptoms of depression. Jacobs Hendel led these patients and others toward lives newly capable of joy and fulfillment through an empathic and effective therapeutic approach that draws on the latest science about the healing power of our emotions. Whereas conventional therapy encourages patients to talk through past events that may trigger anxiety and depression, accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP), the method practiced by Jacobs Hendel and pioneered by Diana Fosha, PhD, teaches us to identify the defenses and inhibitory emotions (shame, guilt, and anxiety) that block core emotions (anger, sadness, fear, disgust, joy, excitement, and sexual excitement). Fully experiencing core emotions allows us to enter an openhearted state where we are calm, curious, connected, compassionate, confident, courageous, and clear. In It’s Not Always Depression, Jacobs Hendel shares a unique and pragmatic tool called the Change Triangle—a guide to carry you from a place of disconnection back to your true self. In these pages, she teaches lay readers and helping professionals alike • why all emotions—even the most painful—have value. • how to identify emotions and the defenses we put up against them. • how to get to the root of anxiety—the most common mental illness of our time. • how to have compassion for the child you were and the adult you are. Jacobs Hendel provides navigational tools, body and thought exercises, candid personal anecdotes, and profound insights gleaned from her patients’ remarkable breakthroughs. She shows us how to work the Change Triangle in our everyday lives and chart a deeply personal, powerful, and hopeful course to psychological well-being and emotional engagement.

These are just the symptoms, the true disease—the true battle—is against the devil and his armies. But the devil’s not afraid of mere humans like you and me. So how are we supposed to fight? More importantly, how are we supposed to win? Warfare is a guide to fighting the battles that matter. In it, you’ll learn: to identify how spiritual warfare is impacting your soul, family, church, and culture. who the armies are and what role they play—God, angels, demons, and the devil how to use the arsenal of spiritual weapons God provides how to claim the victory God has already won. Book Incompleteness Donald Trump Populism and Citizenship

Download or read book Incompleteness Donald Trump Populism and Citizenship written by B. Nyamnjoh and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of how Donald J. Trump, his populist credentials notwithstanding, borrows without acknowledgment and stubbornly refuses to come to terms with his indebtedness. Taken together with mobility and conviviality, the principle of incompleteness enables us to distinguish between inclusionary and exclusionary forms of populism, and when it is fuelled by ambitions of superiority and zero-sum games of conquest. Nyamnjoh challenges the reader to reflect on how stifling frameworks of citizenship and belonging predicated upon hierarchies of humanity and mobility, and driven by a burning but elusive quest for completeness, can be constructively transcended by humility and conviviality inspired by taking incompleteness seriously. Nyamnjoh argues that the logic and practice of incompleteness is a healthy antidote to name-calling and scapegoating others as undesirable outsiders, depending on the brand of populism at play. Recognising incompleteness also helps to question sterile and problematic binaries such as those between elites and the impoverished masses among whom populists go to fish for political visibility, prominence and success.

Book excerpt: civiLIESation: The Undeniable Truth is an in-depth look at what we are, who we are, and the ultimate purpose of our existence. The cosmos is a grand miracle, and though we dont know its origin or purpose, one thing does remain true and that is that the entire cosmos is made up of energy, the energy of creation. The Earth is a living biosphere that is a product of the atomic expansion of the universe. The Earths containment system allows for the sustainability of life. During the early stages of civilization life was reckless, barbaric, and uncontained. It would take thousands of years for the primitive energy to evolve into a sophisticated, civilized energy. One of the key factors for a shift in human behavior was through the conception of ego energy. The ego would be responsible for the governing power of civilization known as The Mass of Collective Energy. CiviLIESation explores illusionary perceptions, projections, and reflections of the ego. CiviLIESation is a presentation of conscious awareness.

Book Borderline Personality Disorder

Download or read book Borderline Personality Disorder written by Barbara Stanley and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-09-27 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade, there has been a burgeoning of interest in understanding and treating borderline personality disorder, a disorder characterized by extreme emotional reactivity, impulsivity and serious interpersonal difficulties resulting in frequent loss of relationships. Individuals with borderline personality disorder comprise a substantial proportion of the psychiatric outpatient population, are often seen in emergency rooms and have major functional impairment (e.g. unemployment). Suicide occurs in 3-9% of the population. Furthermore, non-suicidal self injury (e.g. cutting without the intent to die), eating disorders and substance abuse are frequently seen in the context of borderline personality disorder. Not only do the individuals with the disorder suffer , their family members also experience distress and can feel burdened and overwhelmed. Once thought to be nonexistent or a 'grab bag' diagnosis, borderline personality disorder is now understood as a significant emotional disorder with its own neurobiological and psychosocial correlates. At the same time, the disorder is still poorly understood and stigmatized with limited resources available to the novice clinician and mental health professional trainees (e.g. psychiatry residents, psychology doctoral students, social work students). The aim of this primer on borderline personality disorder is to fill this void and provide an accessible, easy-to-use , clinically-oriented, evidenced-based guide for early stage clinicians. We present the most up to data about borderline personality disorder by leading experts in the field in a format accessible to trainees and professionals working with individuals with borderline personality disorder and their family members. The volume is comprehensive and covers the etiology of BPD, its clinical presentation and co-morbid disorders, genetics and neurobiology of BPD, effective treatment of BPD, the role of advocacy and special subpopulations (e.g.forensic)in the clinical management of BPD.

Book excerpt: Wounds Caused by Gossip Ministry has been empowered by kingdom of God to equips, train, inform, educate, that we may bring the body of Christ together as one in the spirit. It is time for the church of the living God to help restore our workplace, churches, families, and communities back to God. We live in a society that is flooded with gossip and conflicts. A wounded spirit comes as a result of a re-action to negative words, events, actions, or a violation of your person or rights - a re-action that crushes you, knocks you down and from which you cannot seem to rise. It crushes an area of your life - your spirit - which is quite devastating in how it affects us. It seems we cannot heal ourselves of a wounded spirit. We see our churches, workplace and even our political government has failed. When we as believers who believe in the power of God's Word we can put a stop to gossip and conflicts in our world today and bring about kingdom changes. We as a people must bring God back in our lives, workplace and our churches and align ourselves under the might hands of God.
