Book Communication Problems in the Family Business

Download or read book Communication Problems in the Family Business written by Stephanie Olbrich and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: A (1,3), Pfeiffer University, Charlotte Campus, course: Business Communication, language: English, abstract: For family businesses, effective communication is an even more integral factor for successful business operations due to the peculiarity that personal (family) emotions frequently interfere with business decisions. Family businesses often have to struggle with conflicts among members of the organization, low managerial abilities, interfered daily business activities, and customer relationships that suffer from the lack of structure and poor communication. The research provided in this paper shows that small family businesses face similar problems, whereas effective communication is the most frequently mentioned issue regarding the need for improvement in family businesses. This paper considers the importance of common expectations and values to guide family members, thereby eliminating areas for dispute. Other important findings are that leadership training and structured responsibilities (clear work roles) make the management more congruent and improve managerial communication; well-managed employees, who have direction and know about priorities, affect business activities positively; and that a professional appearance of the family business has a positive impact on customer relationships. The conclusion presented at the end of this document states that once the family business has successfully implemented an effective organizational and information communication scheme that includes emphasis on family values, then the business will be able to make use of the particular advantages a family business can have.

Book Dirty Little Secrets of Family Business

Download or read book Dirty Little Secrets of Family Business written by Henry Hutcheson and published by . This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are family businesses so challenging? Family is about unconditional love, and business is about profit. Dirty little secret: these two goals do not always align. This book explains that family businesses, like relatives, come in many shapes and sizes. Surprising statistic: More than 66 percent of all family businesses don't succeed to the next generation. This book uncovers the dirty little secrets of family business, and then offers some effective strategies for keeping communication open and dealing with difficult problems that may arise. Most family businesses begin with a single founder, who either saw an opportunity or simply took action to make ends meet. Maybe it was both. However, this can quickly turn into a husband-and-wife team, or two brothers or sisters. Many family businesses are owned and run by women, who have the additional burden and conflict of being "mom" and the chief emotional support for the family. Then the next generation comes along, grows up among the hustle and bustle of their parents trying to build a business, helps out where possible, and one day finds that they are working in their parent's business. Then the kids get married and bring in-laws into the business. Trusted and capable non-family employees are picked up along the way. Ultimately, communication is the key to success for any family business and the book delves into how to achieve that on a consistent basis.

Book How to Prevent Conflict Among Family Members in a Family held Business

Download or read book How to Prevent Conflict Among Family Members in a Family held Business written by Caroline Mutuku and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-06-22 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: Management of family held business presents enormous challenges, owing to the presence of conflicts among family members. This hinders progress of the business and cause family tension, which may lead to adverse consequences. In most cases, disputes over family businesses are addressed through litigation. However, courts do not provide opportunities for healing and reconciliation. If that is the case, then the principal question we should ask is ‘how can we prevent conflict among family members in a family held business using management approaches?’ To discuss these issues, two cases will be presented in which the impact of disputes among family members will be substantiated as reported by Ray Folberg. These cases are the case of real estate in the Silicon Valley and the case of seaside villa in southern California.
