Book Miami Psychic

Download or read book Miami Psychic written by Regina Milbourne and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young psychic, Regina Milbourne became the unlikely and reluctant confidante to the denizens of Miami's seedy underworld. Murderers, thieves, crooked cops, pedophiles, cheating spouses, and Russian drug dealers all came to Regina, who charged (and ultimately paid) a premium to shield them from dangerous evil forces. Even when confronted with death, corruption, and life-threatening encounters, Regina stood by her promise to help anyone who sought her guidance. But when her and her family's lives were threatened, she decided to turn her back on the gift she's had since almost drowning at the age of twelve. In Miami Psychic, she comes clean, divulging—without revealing the identity of any of her clients—the unimaginable horrors and shocking confessions that she witnessed throughout her career. Part gypsy priestess and part psychologist, Regina has experienced it all—from a narcotics officer smuggling drugs to an identity thief plagued by a deceased brother and a Miami heiress cursed by black magic. This harrowing memoir reveals her story in a voice as raw and haunting as the world she came to know and ultimately left behind.

Book Confessions of a Lover

Book excerpt: Life imposes many challenges upon us, some with happy endings, and others with unhappy ones. Confessions of a Lover plumbs the depths of those challenges and shows--time and time again--the importance of steadfastness in the face of adversity. This engaging collection of stories epitomizes the phrase, "in sickness or in health, for better or worse." Joyful, poignant, and heartbreaking all at once, Confessions of a Lover provides the reader with an intimate portrait of the author's life, emphasizing the value of advocacy and perseverance, particularly when dealing with the medical and legal systems. A lifetime of guidance by intuition and the innate intelligence to question events and interactions with others provide a unique framework for this memoir. Confessions of a Lover's wide-ranging stories describe many of the lessons we learn in life, and examine the experiences that mould our character, giving us the tools we need to meet unexpected calamities head-on. Despite circumstances that would have many angry or depressed, these personal examples reveal that gaining maturity over life experiences allows us to strive for happiness, security, and acceptance.

Book The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

Download or read book The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man written by John Perkins and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2016-02-09 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring 15 explosive new chapters, this new edition of the New York Times bestseller brings the story of Economic Hit Men up-to-date and, chillingly, home to the U.S.―but it also gives us hope and the tools to fight back. The previous edition of this now-classic book revealed the existence and subversive manipulations of "economic hit men. John Perkins wrote that they are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. In Perkins's case the tool was debt-convincing strategically important countries to borrow huge amounts of money for enormous, development projects that served the very rich while driving the country deeper into poverty and debt. And once indebted, these countries could be controlled. In this latest edition, Perkins provides revealing new details about how he and others did their work. But more importantly, in an explosive new section he describes how the EHM tools are being used around the world more widely than ever-even in the U. S. itself. The cancer has metastasized, yet most people still aren't aware of it. Fear and debt drive the EHM system. We are hammered with messages that terrify us into believing that we must pay any price, assume any debt, to stop the enemies who, we are told, lurk at our doorsteps. The EHM system-employing false economics, bribes, surveillance, deception, debt, coups, assassinations, unbridled military power-has become the dominant system of economics, government, and society today. It has created what Perkins calls a Death Economy. But Perkins offers hope: he concludes with dozens of specific, concrete suggestions for actions all of us can take to wrest control of our world away from the economic hit men, and help give birth to a Life Economy.

Book Slim Confessions The Universe as a Spider Or Spit

Download or read book Slim Confessions The Universe as a Spider Or Spit written by Sarah Minor and published by . This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literary Nonfiction. Women's Studies. SLIM CONFESSIONS is an image-text about digital intimacy and visceral material. A work of "autotheory," the book lays in parallel the history of "slime" as a vehicle for horror and entertainment with personal encounters with quotidian slime in the human and animal worlds. At its center is a story of farm labor: A cold spring spent birthing sheep in northern Iceland interspersed with confessions about the author's sexual past. In the lineage of Dodie Bellamy's Barf Manifesto, this is a book reveling in repulsion and attraction, a personal investigation of physical touch as approximated by visual media, a slow pour of parallel stories that chronicle a research trip gone awry.

Book excerpt: The memoir of a high-functioning, law-abiding (well, mostly) sociopath and a roadmap—right from the source—for dealing with the sociopath in your life. “[A] gripping and important book . . . revelatory . . . quite the memorable roller coaster ride.”—The New York Times Book Review As M.E. Thomas says of her fellow sociopaths, “We are your neighbors, your coworkers, and quite possibly the people closest to you: lovers, family, friends. Our risk-seeking behavior and general fearlessness are thrilling, our glibness and charm alluring. Our often quick wit and outside-the-box thinking make us appear intelligent—even brilliant. We climb the corporate ladder faster than the rest, and appear to have limitless self-confidence. Who are we? We are highly successful, noncriminal sociopaths and we comprise 4 percent of the American population.” Confessions of a Sociopath—part confessional memoir, part primer for the curious—takes readers on a journey into the mind of a sociopath, revealing what makes them tick while debunking myths about sociopathy and offering a road map for dealing with the sociopaths in your life. M. E. Thomas draws from her own experiences as a diagnosed sociopath; her popular blog, Sociopathworld; and scientific literature to unveil for the very first time these men and women who are “hiding in plain sight.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Suspiria is a collection of prose poems, or what De Quincey called “impassioned prose,” erratically written and published starting in 1854. Each Suspiria is a short essay written in reflection of the opium dreams De Quincey would experience over the course of his lifetime addiction, and they are considered by some critics to be some of the finest examples of prose poetry in all of English literature. De Quincey originally planned them as a sequel of sorts to his Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, but the first set was published separately in Blackwood’s Magazine in the spring and summer of that 1854. De Quincey then published a revised version of those first Suspiria, along with several new ones, in his collected works. During his life he kept a master list of titles of the Suspiria he planned on writing, and completed several more before his death; those that survived time and fire were published posthumously in 1891.

In their forties, a request is made to return to Cape May for a week's vacation. This is not a trip the friends are looking forward to since they will have to endure spending time with Alice. Casey's BFFs share the same feelings of confusion: Why did Casey, who dated successful and interesting women, choose Alice as her life partner? Alice is not fond of Casey's BFFs. She thinks the women are shallow, snobby, and selfish. One friend in particular has caused Alice an enormous amount of pain. The ladies agree to the vacation. The encounter among the friends gets off to a rocky start, but as the week progresses, the BFFs discover they had misjudged Alice. The women find themselves enjoying their time together. And on the last day of the trip, for fun, they visit a palm reader. However, this becomes the beginning of a new era of their lives--an era of questioning themselves, their relationships, and the past. That same night, the palm reader's words unearth the locked-away secrets of their friendship. Lauren and Kathy find themselves in an unending rift which, in turn, harms Kathy's husband, Derek. Book Rediscovering Confession

Download or read book Rediscovering Confession written by David A. Steere and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rediscovering Confession is about recovering the experience of confession, in danger now of becoming a lost art. It identifies four elements present in psychotherapy and confession: a state of heightened self-awareness, a growing realization that our predicament points in some meaningful direction beyond itself, the necessity to make a relevant response to our situation, and a potential for spiritual encounter that accompanies the process. Each chapter contains a section devoted to practice, with exercises for individual contemplation and experimentation, guidelines for forming a confessional partnership, directions for conducting discussions in a study goup, and ways to organize a small confessional group.
