Book Social and Economic Conditions of Student Life in Europe

Download or read book Social and Economic Conditions of Student Life in Europe written by Christoph Gwosc and published by wbv Media GmbH & Company KG. This book was released on 2021-08-20 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The project EUROSTUDENT has been delivering data on the social and economic conditions of student life in Europe for the past 20 years. The current edition presents the data and results from the period 2018 to 2021, and is based on information provided by students from 25 countries in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The project also examines the social dimensions of studying at a higher education institute, as well as, in part, the impact of COVID-19. The EHEA emphasised this social dimension in its 2020 Rome Communiqué; it was therefore one of the key topics the project group focused on with the aim of inspiring education policy debates and establishing the basis for future research work. The latest report therefore includes data on access to higher education and the respective conditions experienced by the students, their willingness to relocate internationally to pursue their studies, the quality of higher education courses and the planned courses of study. The report is the EUROSTUDENT project's most important publication, and is developed by a network of researchers and national ministry representatives as well as other stakeholders from all over Europe.

Book Life Interpretation and the Sense of Illness within the Human Condition

Download or read book Life Interpretation and the Sense of Illness within the Human Condition written by Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In medicine the understanding and interpretation of the complex reality of illness currently refers either to an organismic approach that focuses on the physical or to a 'holistic' approach that takes into account the patient's human sociocultural involvement. Yet as the papers of this collection show, the suffering human person refers ultimately to his/her existential sphere. Hence, praxis is supplemented by still other perspectives for valuation and interpretation: ethical, spiritual, and religious. Can medicine ignore these considerations or push them to the side as being subjective and arbitrary? Phenomenology/philosophy-of-life recognizes all of the above approaches to be essential facets of the Human Condition (Tymieniecka). This approach holds that all the facets of the Human Condition have equal objectivity and legitimacy. It completes the accepted medical outlook and points the way toward a new `medical humanism'.

Book Phenomenology of Life and the Human Creative Condition

Download or read book Phenomenology of Life and the Human Creative Condition written by Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-12-31 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-individualization has been interpreted as the process in which the all-embracing Self unfolds into an infinite variety of different individ uals, plants, animals and men. A comparison of the different ways in which the Self manifests itself in the biological and psychological devel opmental processes, or in a visionary image of the undivided Self, reveals the same basic structure of expression. The Self, the one, is represented by a circular domain, and comprises a basic inner duality, the two, creating a paradox of conflicting opposites. In the undivided Self the two give rise to a trinity in which, however, a quatemity is hidden. The latter expresses itself in this world as the four basic forces, the four Elements or the four main archetypes, specifying the possibilities or development in space and time. Self-individualization starts with the first appearance of a primary structure of an individual sub-Self. This is the fifth basic force, the fifth Element. Further development is character ized by four generative principles: 1st, the principle of wholeness: connection and integration (being oriented to remaining whole or restoring wholeness); 2nd, the principle of complementarity and com pensation (a periodic shift between opposing influences); 3rd, the enstructuring principle (causing the relative stability of the spatial appear ance of the manifest structure), and 4th, the principle of gesture (resulting in a gradual stepwise development of that structure into a full-grown individual).

Book Health well being and life conditions of young LGBTI persons in the Nordic countries A literature review and survey of efforts

Download or read book Health well being and life conditions of young LGBTI persons in the Nordic countries A literature review and survey of efforts written by Siverskog, Anna and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2021-08-13 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-534/ Despite the fact that life conditions of LGBTI persons in the Nordic countries have changed in the last seventy years, major public health surveys indicate that this group suffers from an increased amount of mental and physical health issues compared to the rest of the population. Younger generations of LGBTI persons see their lives affected, too, by having a sexuality or gender identity that falls outside heteronormativity. The Nordic Council of Ministers, therefore, has initiated a project that aims to shed light on the well-being of young LGBTI persons. Nordic Information on Gender, NIKK, has carried out the project, which has resulted in the report at hand.

This book was released on 2011-02-03 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patient reported outcome measures are central to the evaluation of medical care and treatment regimes. Such measures depart from traditional clinical assessments as they are based on issues known to be of importance to patients. This book outlines the development and application of a variety of such measures in a wide range of neurological conditions. Introductory chapters outline issues in the application and validation of quality-of-life measures in neurology. Subsequent chapters survey the most widely used quality-of-life instruments in Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, multiple system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, and Alzheimer's/dementia. A chapter on cerebral palsy deals with the particular challenges to developing outcome measures for children. The book also addresses issues relating to the translation of measures for use in cross-cultural studies, handling missing data, carer experiences of long-term conditions, and methodological challenges. Essential reading for clinicians and researchers working in the field of neurology.

This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS THE 14TH DALAI LAMA Recently, we conducted a research on a group of meditators, to study the changes in their body elements. The study was done in collaboration with American scientists, and it was discovered that after about three weeks of practicing meditation, their blood pressure had decreased, mind became clearer and calmer and it further reduced stress. There are many aspects of brain that are new to us and are yet to be explored. It is in fact very important to practice meditation to literally change our brain. We must be able to prove scientifically that love and compassion are necessities to maintain physical and mental wellbeing at both individual and social level. Modern science deals mainly with brain, leaving aside the aspect of ‘mind’. It is important to make efforts towards cultivation of moral ethics that is directly associated with mental aspect. In the ancient times, there was no connection between spirituality and science. Now we are all aware of the significance of the mental aspect, and we need to analyze and conduct scientific studies on the subject of consciousness. In Tibetan Monastic communities, there have been cases where certain realized practitioners were clinically declared dead but their bodies remained fresh for several days without any decomposition. There was a case in which the body of a monk who was declared brain dead not only remained fresh but also gained strength a couple of days after death. These cases need to be studied thoroughly, and in the course of analysis, the findings of the investigation and research as the fundamental principle must be embraced. Above is an excerpt from His Holiness’s address at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science in the capital of Uttar Pradesh state on the occasion of the 58th annual conference of the Neurological Society of India. His Holiness spoke on “Brain science and ancient Indian Buddhist thought”.
