Book Condensation Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop of Propane in Vertical Minichannels

Download or read book Condensation Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop of Propane in Vertical Minichannels written by Daniel Lawrence Murphy and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat transfer and pressure drop during condensation of propane flowing through minichannels is investigated in this study. Studies of condensation of hydrocarbons are important for applications in the petrochemical industry. Insights into the mechanisms of propane condensation are required for accurate design of heat transfer equipment for use in hydrocarbon processing. At present, there is very little research on vertical condensation, especially of hydrocarbons, for the tube sizes and flow conditions of interest to the present study. An experimental facility was designed and fabricated to measure the frictional pressure drop and heat transfer coefficients during condensation of propane in plain tubes with an inner diameter of 1.93 mm. Measurements were taken across the vapor-liquid dome in nominal quality increments of 0.25 for two saturation temperatures (47°C and 74°C) and four mass flux conditions (75 - 150 kg m−2 s−1). The data were compared to the predictions of relevant correlations in the literature. The data from this study were also used to develop models for the frictional pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient based on the measurements and the underlying condensation mechanisms. These results and the corresponding correlations contribute to the understanding of condensation of hydrocarbons in vertical minichannels.

Book Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts

Download or read book Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts written by R. K. Shah and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts is a sourcebook for compact heat exchanger analytical data. This book describes the analytical solutions for laminar fluid flow and forced convection heat transfer in circular and noncircular pipes, including applicable differential equations and boundary conditions involving velocity and temperature problems of fluid flow. The book also discusses fluid flow—how much power is required to pump fluids through the heat exchanger, as well as the heat transfer—the determination of q" distribution, and the temperature of fluid and walls. The text also analyzes the coolant or heat transfer fluid flows in a nuclear power reactor composed of a bundle of circular section fuel rods located inside a round tube. R.A. Axford addresses fluid flow and heat transfers results for the rod bundle geometry in "Heat Transfer in Rod Bundles." The book also provides an overview and guidelines that can be used for the designer and the applied mathematician. This book is suitable for engineers working in electronics, aerospace, instrumentation, and biomechanics that use cooling or heating exchanges or solar collection systems.

Book Heat Transfer in Condensation and Boiling

Download or read book Heat Transfer in Condensation and Boiling written by Karl Stephan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I welcome the opportunity to have my book translated, because of the great emphasis on two-phase flow and heat transfer in the English-speaking world, as related to research, university education, and industrial practice. The 1988 Springer-Verlag edition of "Warmeiibergang beim Kondensieren und beim Sieden" has been enlarged to include additional material on falling film evaporation (Chapter 12) and pressure drop in two-phase flow (Chapter 13). Minor errors in the original text have also been corrected. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Professor Green, Asso ciate Professor of German at Rensselaer, for his excellent translation and co operation. My thanks go also to Professor Bergles for his close attention to technical and linguistic details. He carefully read the typescript and made many comments and suggestions that helped to improve the manuscript. I hope that the English edition will meet with' a favorable reception and contribute to better understanding and to progress in the field of heat transfer in condensation and boiling. February 1992 K. Stephan Preface to the German-Language Edition This book is a continuation of the series "Heat and Mass Transfer" edited by U. Grigull, in which three volumes have already been published. Its aim is to acquaint students and practicing engineers with heat transfer during condensa tion and boiling, and is intended primarily for students and engineers in mechanical, chemical, electrical, and industrial processing engineering.
