Book Rebar Cage Construction and Safety

Download or read book Rebar Cage Construction and Safety written by Michael J. Casey and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rebar Cage Construction and Safety: Best Practices presents guidelines for the safe handling of steel reinforcing-bar (rebar) cages throughout the design, fabrication, and erection process. The focus is on rebar cages used for large, cast-in-place concrete columns in a variety of settings, including bridge piers, elevated highway sections, and high-rise buildings. These cages are inherently unstable, usually held together by tie-wire alone. They are challenging to fabricate, to lift from the horizontal to the vertical position, and to support in the temporary condition until concrete is cast. Engineered temporary support systems, such as bracing or cable-guy systems, can mitigate the instability of standing rebar cages and resist lateral loads, ensuring better safety for the iron workers tasked with climbing the cages. Topics include: overview of rebar cages; organisational management for rebar cages; construction engineering; checklists of best practices for construction; and summary, conclusions, and recommendations. This volume describes best practices for construction engineering and construction practice regarding rebar cages. It will be useful to construction engineers working with large columns for the first time as well as construction contractors looking to establish policies and procedures related to rebar column safety.

Book Concrete Buildings Analysis for Safe Construction

Download or read book Concrete Buildings Analysis for Safe Construction written by W.F. Chen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-09-12 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most critical state of a structure's lifetime is during construction; many more disasters occur during construction than after projects have been completed. This book helps readers to determine construction loads; understand performance criteria during construction; prevent construction delays; maintain structural strength and stability; find relevant codes and standards; learn methods of shoring, reshoring, bracing and guying, and completing other temporary work; spot potential hazards; eliminate construction-created structural disaster; and maximize site safety. The book also covers concrete frame analysis and provides comprehensive treatment of topics such as construction procedures and shoring scheduling. Concrete Buildings: Analysis for Safe Construction also features a diskette that contains the computer program, SHORING2, a menu-driven, user-friendly program capable of calculating the loads imposed on shores, reshores, and slabs at every state of construction on high-rise reinforced concrete buildings. The program can also assess safety at each stage of construction. Concrete Buildings: Analysis for Safe Construction's "back to basics" approach, realistic detailed worked examples, and emphasis on safety through the use of computer programs, will benefit structural engineers, contractors, inspectors, construction managers, building officials, and construction safety specialists. The book is an important guide for safe analysis of concrete buildings during construction.

Book Prestressed Concrete

Download or read book Prestressed Concrete written by and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1989 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post-tensioning and grouting operations can be dangerous if the required care is not taken in planning, in site preparations and in execution. For prestressed concrete a good working environment is also a prerequisite for high quality. Many accidents in this type of work may be attributed to a lack of training, poor supervision, poor planning or over-familiarity with the process. This guide to good practice highlights important safety measures which are particularly applicable to prestressed concrete, dealing with precautions necessary for post-tensioning and grouting operations on site.

Book Concrete Reinforcement Corrosion

Download or read book Concrete Reinforcement Corrosion written by Peter Pullar-Strecker and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 2002 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Reinforcement corrision is the most important cause of deterioration in reinforced concrete structutres today. By comparing the different repair methods which have been established during recent years and discussing their advantages and drawbacks, this guide details practical approaches to enable non-specialist investigators to carry out at least some initial investigation themselves and considers the problems of detailsed investigations in a way which even the most experienced consultations and their clients will find helpful." - back cover.

Book Monitoring and Safety Evaluation of Existing Concrete Structures

Download or read book Monitoring and Safety Evaluation of Existing Concrete Structures written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and published by fib Fédération internationale du béton. This book was released on 2003 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The condition assessment of aged structures is becoming a more and more important issue for civil infrastructure management systems. The continued use of existing systems is, due to environmental, economical and socio-political assets, of great significance and is growing larger every year. Thus the extent of necessary repair of damaged reinforced concrete structures is of major concern in most countries today. Monitoring techniques may have a decisive input to limit expenditures for maintenance and repair of existing structures. Modern test and measurement methods as well as computational mechanics open the door for a wide variety of monitoring applications. The need for quantitative and qualitative knowledge has led to the development and improvement of surveillance techniques, which have already found successful application in other disciplines such as medicine, physics and chemistry. The design of experimental test and measurement systems is inherently an interdisciplinary activity. The specification of the instrumentation to measure the structural response will involve the skills of civil, electrical and computer engineers. The main aim of fib Commission 5, Structural servicer life aspects, is to provide a rational procedure to obtain an optimal technical-economic performance of concrete structures in service and to ensure a feedback of experience gained to design, execution, maintenance and rehabilitation. Against this background fib Task Group 5.1 Monitoring and Safety Evaluation of Existing Concrete Structures had been established to evaluate the existing practice worldwide. The objective of this state-of-art report is to summarize the most important inspection and measuring methods, to describe the working process and to evaluate the applicability to structural monitoring. Particular emphasis is placed upon non-destructive systems, lifetime monitoring, data evaluation and safety aspects.

Book Reinforced Concrete Construction for Small Projects

Download or read book Reinforced Concrete Construction for Small Projects written by Ron Dean and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By using the Working Stress Design system described in the text combined with other information in this book, a builder with a good knowledge of basic arithmetic and a pocket calculator can determine the sizing and placement of steel rebar within small concrete buildings, such as earth-sheltered homes. The book covers the design, assembly, and formwork required by concrete beams, elevated slabs, walls, footings, short columns, mat foundations, and soffits. Many of these components are impossible to build using plain (unreinforced) concrete.
