Book excerpt: The newer research areas in pharmaceutical sciences, particularly molecular modeling and simulations, prompted a more efficient drug discovery process. Informatics integrated with pharmaceutical sciences (cheminformatics and bioinformatics) became an essential component of drug research. Drug informatics such as genomics and proteomics assists in the Rational Drug Design (RDD). This emerging discipline is known as “Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD)”, which has profound application in rational drug design (RDD). The advanced and adequate practice in drug design informatics is essential for pharmacy graduates. Hence, a companion for acquiring knowledge on these concepts is vital. The students of B. Pharmacy, M. Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Pharmaceutics), biotechnology, biomedical engineering and other interdisciplinary fields may find this book as a reference guide. The salient features of this book are: • Systematic and simple approach • Emphasis on traditional and modern drug design strategies • Comprehensive coverage for the current advances in the drug design • Experimental section to ensure hands-on-experience Note: T& F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Book Introduction to Behavioral Pharmacology

Download or read book Introduction to Behavioral Pharmacology written by Thomas Byrne and published by New Harbinger Publications. This book was released on 2000-05-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are hundreds, if not thousands, of substances that are used to modify behavior. While different classes of substances have known effects, one has only to see a group of people drinking to excess to recognize that not everyone responds in the same way to a given substance. Why do substances have the behavioral effects they do, and why do individuals vary in their responses to them? This book provides a conceptual framework for answering such questions. Introduction to Behavioral Pharmacology includes a short overview of behavioral analysis and general pharmacology, followed by detailed discussion of assessment of drug effects, the stimulus properties of drugs, drug abuse, and more.

Book Concepts in Biochemical Pharmacology

Download or read book Concepts in Biochemical Pharmacology written by P.S. Randall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part 3 of the Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology (Concepts in Biochem ical Pharmacology) applies the principles enunciated in Parts 1 and 2 to clinical pharmacology and toxicology. The major objective is to elucidate the many factors that determine the relationships between pharmacokinetic aspects of the disposition and metabolism of drugs and their therapeutic or toxic actions in man. Because of the more restricted information obtainable in human studies, this volume reflects the editors' bias that an understanding of pharmacokinetics is fundamental for assessing pharmacologic or toxicologic effects of drugs in humans. The first chapter is a unique primer on when to apply and how to use pharmaco kinetic tools in human pharmacology. The second chapter explains the general assumptions underlying pharmacokinetic approaches both in simple terms for the novice and in mathematical form for the more sophisticated reader. Several chapters on determinants of drug concentration and activity discuss drug absorption, drug latentiation, drugs acting through metabolites, entero hepatic drug circulation, influence of route of drug administration on response, genetic variations in drug disposition and response, age differences in absorption, distribution and excretion of drugs, and pathologic and physiologic factors affecting absorption, distribution and excretion of drugs and drug response. The focus of these chapters is data obtained in human, rather than animal, studies. Most of the chapters contain new material never summarized previously.

Book Concepts in Biochemical Pharmacology

Download or read book Concepts in Biochemical Pharmacology written by H.S. Ackermann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology (Concepts in Biochemical Pharmacology) will show that pharma cology has finally arrived as a true discipline in its own right, and is no longer the handmaiden of organic chemistry and physiology. Instead it is an amalgam of all the biological sciences including biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, physiology, pathology and clinical medicine. In the volumes that make up Concepts in Bioche mical Pharmacology we hope to convince Medical Schools what should now be obvious, that pharmacology is no longer that dull topic bridging the basic sciences with medicine, but is probably the most important subject in the medical curriculum. We are grateful for the advice of Dr. BYRON CLARKE, Director of the Pharmacology-Toxicology Program at the National Insti tutes of Health, whose support made possible much of the work described in this volume.
