Book excerpt: Modern science communication has emerged in the twentieth century as a field of study, a body of practice and a profession—and it is a practice with deep historical roots. We have seen the birth of interactive science centres, the first university actions in teaching and conducting research, and a sharp growth in employment of science communicators. This collection charts the emergence of modern science communication across the world. This is the first volume to map investment around the globe in science centres, university courses and research, publications and conferences as well as tell the national stories of science communication. How did it all begin? How has development varied from one country to another? What motivated governments, institutions and people to see science communication as an answer to questions of the social place of science? Communicating Science describes the pathways followed by 39 different countries. All continents and many cultures are represented. For some countries, this is the first time that their science communication story has been told.

Book Race and Sociocultural Inclusion in Science Communication

Download or read book Race and Sociocultural Inclusion in Science Communication written by Elizabeth Rasekoala and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chapter 12 is available Open Access under CC-BY-NC-ND licence. Conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion in science communication are in danger of generating much concern without effecting change and systematic transformations. This radical volume addresses these circular discourses and reveals the gaps in the field. Putting the spotlight on the marginalised voices of so-called 'racialised minorities', and those from Global South regions, it interrogates the global footprint of the science communication enterprise. Moving beyond tokenistic and extractive approaches, this book creates a space for academics and practitioners to challenge issues around race and sociocultural inclusion, providing mutual learning, paradigm-shifting perspectives, and innovative ways forward for the science communication advancement agenda.

Book Comunicar ciencia en M xico

Download or read book Comunicar ciencia en M xico written by Juan Manuel Velázquez Ramírez and published by ITESO. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. (ITESO)

Book Building Ocean Science Partnerships

Download or read book Building Ocean Science Partnerships written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-11-26 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building Ocean Science Partnerships describes a set of potential ocean science projects for cooperative research between scientists from the United States and Mexico, particularly focused on the Pacific Coast of California and Baja California, the Gulf of California, and the Gulf of Mexico. Barriers to cooperation between scientists of the two nations are identified, and methods to overcome such barriers are recommended. The book describes how interactions can be promoted by enhancing opportunities for education and training, building and sharing scientific infrastructure, participating together in large-scale marine research programs and regional ocean observing systems, planning joint science events and publications, and developing sources of binational funding. Building Ocean Science Partnerships will be published in English and Spanish to make its contents widely accessible in the United States and Mexico.

Download or read book Comunicaci n especializada y divulgaci n en la red written by Gianluca Pontrandolfo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Comunicación especializada y divulgación en la red: aproximaciones basadas en corpus presents a corpus-based approach to the study of the key features of popularization and specialised communication in Spanish. Providing a theoretical framework for the study of popularization in web genres, this book proposes a series of case studies exploring a range of features (including metaphor, polyphony and discourse frames) that contribute to characterise how specialised knowledge is communicated to lay audiences. The research is based on the WebLesp corpus, containing different web genres pertaining to four major domains: law, economics, medicine, and science. This will be of particular interest to researchers and advanced students in Spanish Linguistics, Genre Analysis, Discourse Analysis, Spanish for Specific Purposes and Corpus Linguistics.
