Book An Assessment of Current Capability for Computer Analysis of Shell Structures

Download or read book An Assessment of Current Capability for Computer Analysis of Shell Structures written by Richard F. Hartung and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains an assessment of current shell analysis capability. The assessment is based on work conducted at the Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratory under contract to the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory. In addition to surveying the open literature, information for the study was gathered during a series of visits made to organizations throughout the United States at which there is an active shell analysis research effort. More than 40 industrial concerns, government agencies and universities have been visited to date. During each visit, technical personnel working in the area of shell analysis were interviewed to determine the scope of their present analysis capability, to learn of current research activities and to discuss computer methods of shell analysis in general. Information so obtained is summarized in a series of briefs which appear in the Appendix of this report.

Book Numerical Methods for Imperfection Sensitivity Analysis of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Imperfection Sensitivity Analysis of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells written by Richard L. Citerley and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains documentation for four computer programs used in the imperfection sensitivity analysis of cylindrical shells. The four programs are based upon Donnell's equation for cylindrical shells. The formulation of each program is worked in detail so others may make modification. Input and output instructions, together with the program listings, are provided. This report is in two volumes. Volume I discusses the development and applications of the programs, and Volume II is the user's manual.

Download or read book Analysis of Shells and Plates written by Phillip L. Gould and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study ofthree-dimensional continua has been a traditional part of graduate education in solid mechanics for some time. With rational simplifications to the three-dimensional theory of elasticity, the engineering theories of medium-thin plates and of thin shells may be derived and applied to a large class of engi neering structures distinguished by a characteristically small dimension in one direction. Often, these theories are developed somewhat independently due to their distinctive geometrical and load-resistance characteristics. On the other hand, the two systems share a common basis and might be unified under the classification of Surface Structures after the German term Fliichentragwerke. This common basis is fully exploited in this book. A substantial portion of many traditional approaches to this subject has been devoted to constructing classical and approximate solutions to the governing equations of the system in order to proceed with applications. Within the context of analytical, as opposed to numerical, approaches, the limited general ity of many such solutions has been a formidable obstacle to applications involving complex geometry, material properties, and/or loading. It is now relatively routine to obtain computer-based solutions to quite complicated situations. However, the choice of the proper problem to solve through the selection of the mathematical model remains a human rather than a machine task and requires a basis in the theory of the subject.

Book Theory and Analysis of Elastic Plates and Shells

Download or read book Theory and Analysis of Elastic Plates and Shells written by J. N. Reddy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-11-20 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because plates and shells are common structural elements in aerospace, automotive, and civil engineering structures, engineers must understand the behavior of such structures through the study of theory and analysis. Compiling this information into a single volume, Theory and Analysis of Elastic Plates and Shells, Second Edition presents a complete
