Book A Numerical Investigation of Subsonic and Supersonic Flow Around Axisymmetric Bodies

Download or read book A Numerical Investigation of Subsonic and Supersonic Flow Around Axisymmetric Bodies written by George D. Catalano and published by . This book was released on 2001-09 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach to predicting high- speed aerodynamic flow fields of interest to the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) has been carried out The aerodynamic problems of particular interest are: (1) supersonic flow past the aftbody of projectiles with base mass injection, (2) supersonic flow past the M549 projectile, and (3) subsonic, transonic, and supersonic flow past an M864 projectile with base bleed and wake combustion. The commercially available FLUENT (Fluent, Inc. FLUENT. Version 5.1.1, Lebanon, NH, 1999.) CFD code was utilized. The computational effort supports an ongoing ARL- sponsored experimental investigation. Of particular interest in the present investigation is the careful characterization of the various turbulence models employed in the CFD code. Additionally, the ease of use and set-up as well as the computational time will be described. An experimental effort (Dutton, J. C., and A. L. Addy. 'Fluid Dynamic Mechanisms and Interactions Within Separated Flows'. U.S. Army Research Office Research Grant DAAH04-93-G-0226 and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of illinois, Urbana-Champagne, Urbana, IL, August 1998.) consisting of detailed laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV), particle image velocimeter (PIV), and high-speed wall pressure measurements has been made in axisymmetric and planar subsonic and supersonic flows with embedded separated regions. The present work seeks to predict similar flow fields computationally and to address areas of agreement and disagreement.

Book On Two dimensional Supersonic Flows

Download or read book On Two dimensional Supersonic Flows written by Stefan Bergman and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In previous reports by the author, the method of operators has been applied to investigation of two-dimensional flow patterns of an ideal compressible fluid, mostly in the subsonic case. Using a similar approach in the present paper, the author defines two different operators which generate supersonic two-dimensional flow patterns from differentiable functions of one real variable. (An operator is any rul by means of which one function is converted into another.) Since operators of the type considered preserve many properties of the functions to which they are applied and since the theory of functions of one real variable is more extensively developed than that of solutions of the compressibility equations, the results can be used as a basis for investigation of supersonic flow patterns.

Book Asymptotic Theory of Supersonic Viscous Gas Flows

Download or read book Asymptotic Theory of Supersonic Viscous Gas Flows written by Vladimir Neyland and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2008-02-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in English devoted to the latest developments in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics. Written by the leading authors in the field, based at the renowned Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute in Moscow, it deals with viscous gas flow problems that arise from supersonic flows. These complex problems are central to the work of researchers and engineers dealing with new aircraft and turbomachinery development (jet engines, compressors and other turbine equipment). The book presents the latest asymptotical models, simplified Navier-Stokes equations and viscous-inviscid interaction theroies and will be of critical interest to researchers, engineers, academics and advanced graduate students in the areas of fluid mechanics, compressible flows, aerodynamics and aircraft design, applied mathematics and computational fluid dynamics. The first book in English to cover the latest methodology for incopressible flow analysis of high speed aerodynamics, an essential topic for those working on new generation aircraft and turbomachinery Authors are internationally recognised as the leading figures in the field Includes a chapter introducing asymptotical methods to enable advanced level students to use the book

Book The Theory of Subsonic Plane Flow

Download or read book The Theory of Subsonic Plane Flow written by L. C. Woods and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1961-01-02 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1961 book presents a concise and systematic treatment of two-dimensional subsonic, inviscid fluid motion and its aeronautical applications. Part I surveys the relevant fluid dynamics, assuming only a basic knowledge of the topic. In Part II, the methods of conformal mapping and Cauchy integrals are developed, on the assumption that the reader has only an elementary understanding of complex variable theory; this will be of interest to a wide range of applied mathematicians and engineers. In Part III, the methods are applied to several problems in fluid mechanics and aero dynamics. The text provides an extensive account of mixed boundary-value problems and treats such examples of these problems as occur in ventilated wind-tunnel theory, jet-flap theory and unsteady Hemholtz motions.

Book Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow written by Alexander J. Smits and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-11 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A good understanding of turbulent compressible flows is essential to the design and operation of high-speed vehicles. Such flows occur, for example, in the external flow over the surfaces of supersonic aircraft, and in the internal flow through the engines. Our ability to predict the aerodynamic lift, drag, propulsion and maneuverability of high-speed vehicles is crucially dependent on our knowledge of turbulent shear layers, and our understanding of their behavior in the presence of shock waves and regions of changing pressure. Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow provides a comprehensive introduction to the field, and helps provide a basis for future work in this area. Wherever possible we use the available experimental work, and the results from numerical simulations to illustrate and develop a physical understanding of turbulent compressible flows.
