Download or read book Modeling and Computation of Boundary Layer Flows written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-09-02 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of the book, Modeling and Computation of Boundary-Layer Flows^ extends the topic to include compressible flows. This implies the inclusion of the energy equation and non-constant fluid properties in the continuity and momentum equations. The necessary additions are included in new chapters, leaving the first nine chapters to serve as an introduction to incompressible flows and, therefore, as a platform for the extension. This part of the book can be used for a one semester course as described below. Improvements to the incompressible flows portion of the book include the removal of listings of computer programs and their description, and their incor poration in two CD-ROMs. A listing of the topics incorporated in the CD-ROM is provided before the index. In Chapter 7 there is a more extended discussion of initial conditions for three-dimensional flows, application of the characteristic box to a model problem and discussion of flow separation in three-dimensional laminar flows. There are also changes to Chapter 8, which now includes new sections on Tollmien-Schlichting and cross-flow instabilities and on the predic tion of transition with parabolised stability equations, and Chapter 9 provides a description of the rational behind interactive boundary-layer procedures.

Download or read book Numerical Solutions of the Euler Equations for Steady Flow Problems written by Albrecht Eberle and published by Vieweg+Teubner Verlag. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has seen a dramatic increase of our abilities to solve numerically the governing equations of fluid mechanics. In design aerodynamics the classical potential-flow methods have been complemented by higher modelling-level methods. Euler solvers, and for special purposes, already Navier-Stokes solvers are in use. The authors of this book have been working on the solution of the Euler equations for quite some time. While the first two of us have worked mainly on algorithmic problems, the third has been concerned off and on with modelling and application problems of Euler methods. When we started to write this book we decided to put our own work at the center of it. This was done because we thought, and we leave this to the reader to decide, that our work has attained over the years enough substance in order to justify a book. The problem which we soon faced, was that the field still is moving at a fast pace, for instance because hyper sonic computation problems became more and more important.
Download or read book Three Dimensional Attached Viscous Flow written by Ernst Heinrich Hirschel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viscous flow is treated usually in the frame of boundary-layer theory and as two-dimensional flow. Books on boundary layers give at most the describing equations for three-dimensional boundary layers, and solutions often only for some special cases. This book provides basic principles and theoretical foundations regarding three-dimensional attached viscous flow. Emphasis is put on general three-dimensional attached viscous flows and not on three-dimensional boundary layers. This wider scope is necessary in view of the theoretical and practical problems to be mastered in practice. The topics are weak, strong, and global interaction, the locality principle, properties of three-dimensional viscous flow, thermal surface effects, characteristic properties, wall compatibility conditions, connections between inviscid and viscous flow, flow topology, quasi-one- and two-dimensional flows, laminar-turbulent transition and turbulence. Though the primary flight speed range is that of civil air transport vehicles, flows past other flying vehicles up to hypersonic speeds are also considered. Emphasis is put on general three-dimensional attached viscous flows and not on three-dimensional boundary layers, as this wider scope is necessary in view of the theoretical and practical problems that have to be overcome in practice. The specific topics covered include weak, strong, and global interaction; the locality principle; properties of three-dimensional viscous flows; thermal surface effects; characteristic properties; wall compatibility conditions; connections between inviscid and viscous flows; flow topology; quasi-one- and two-dimensional flows; laminar-turbulent transition; and turbulence. Detailed discussions of examples illustrate these topics and the relevant phenomena encountered in three-dimensional viscous flows. The full governing equations, reference-temperature relations for qualitative considerations and estimations of flow properties, and coordinates for fuselages and wings are also provided. Sample problems with solutions allow readers to test their understanding.

Download or read book Measurements in the Boundary Layer of a Yawed Wing written by A. M. Kuethe and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the velocity profiles in the turbulent boundary layer on the upper surface of a wing of semielliptical plan form at an angle of yaw of 25 deg and angles of attack of 12 deg and 14 deg are reported along with pressure distributions. These show considerable spanwise flow near the surface. The chordwise (velocity components inclined 25 deg to the main wind direction) and spanwise boundary layers were calculated. The chordwise velocity profiles are in good agreement with those obtained at the National Bureau of Standards on an unyawed airfoil shape.
