Download or read book S Sulfur Nitrogen Compounds written by Alfons Kubny and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume treats the acyclic sulfur(II)-nitrogen compounds with one-coordinate and two-coordinate sulfur. Sulfur imide (S=NH) and N-organyl-sulfur imides (S=NR) are unstable compounds which can be stabilized by coordination to transition metals or trapped, for example, by Ä2 + 4Ü cycloaddition with 1,3-butadiene. Among dithionitryl (1+) salts, only ÄS=N=SÜ+AsF6- has been studied extensively. Cycloaddition with alkenes and triple bond compounds produce 1,3,2-dithiazolium salts. Thiohydroxylamine, HSNH2, has been detected in the gas phase. Numerous examples of N, N-diorganyl-amino-halogeno-sulfanes (XSNR2, X = F, Cl, Br, I; R = organyl) and salts of the cation (XS)2N+ (X = Cl, Br) are known. N, N-Diorganyl-amino-chloro-sulfanes are important synthetic reagents.

Others include the conversion of (C6H5)3P into (C6H5)3PF2 and of (R3NC(S)S)2 into R2NCF3, R=alkyl. In organic chemistry, fluorides are easily accessible from alcohols, geminal fluorides RR'CF2 from the respective aldehydes or ketones, and acyl fluorides RC(O)F from carboxylic acides by using DAST. Because DAST is easy to handle and gives clean reactions in syntheses, this Gmelin volume devotes much space to the description of the chemical and physical properties od DAST.
Download or read book S Sulfur Nitrogen Compounds written by and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume describes cyclic sulfur-nitrogen compounds whose ring system con tains one or two other types of atoms in addition to sulfur and nitrogen. At least one sulfur atom can be regarded as having oxidation number IV in one resonance structure. That means the sulfur in fact has an oxidation number higher than 11 and lower than VI. The volume continues "Sulfur-Nitrogen Compounds" Part 2, in which the binary sulfur(lV)-nitrogen ring systems are described. Compounds with the same "hetero atom" in the sulfur-nitrogen ring are arranged in groups. Within a group the compounds are arranged according to ring size, and for a given number of ring atoms, in order of decreasing S: N ratio. Neutral compounds are described before ions, and saturated compounds before unsaturated, aromatic ones. A very heterogeneous material is brought together in this volume. SN Se2 rings, which 2 strongly resemble the binary S3N2 ring, are covered. S-N-Si rings with five, six, and eight atoms, and also N-S-N-bridged eight-membered rings, are described. The S-N-P rings form a puzzling and complex part of this volume; they readily interconvert by dimerization, cleavage, and by addition and loss of NSN and NPN groups. Especially interesting is the aromatic character of 8-N-P rings.
Download or read book Organic Sulfur Compounds written by N. Kharasch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Sulfur Compounds, Volume I deals with the chemistry of organic sulfur compounds such as disulfides, polysulfides, olefins, acetylenes, and chloroethylenes. Topics covered range from the inorganic acids of sulfur and the thermodynamics of organic sulfur compounds to some applications of isotopic sulfur and the stereochemistry of disulfides and polysulfides. The mechanism of oxidation of thiols to disulfides is also discussed. Comprised of 40 chapters, this volume first considers the precise structures of elemental sulfur in relation to the reactions of sulfur compounds, followed by an analysis of the inorganic acids of sulfur. The reader is then introduced to the thermodynamics of organic sulfur compounds and the bonding characteristics of the sulfur atom, as well as the infrared spectra of organosulfur compounds. Subsequent chapters focus on the ionic scission of the sulfur-sulfur bond; nucleophilic reactions of thiols with acetylene and chloroethylene; reactions of sulfur with olefins; and the chemistry of isothiocyanates. This book should prove useful to advanced students, practitioners, and research workers in the field of organic chemistry.

Download or read book Water Chemistry written by Patrick Brezonik and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-22 with total page 809 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water Chemistry provides students with the tools necessary to understand the processes that control the chemical species present in waters of both natural and engineered systems. After providing basic information about water itself and the chemical composition of water in environmental systems, the text covers the necessary theory (thermodynamics, activity, and kinetics) and background material to solve problems. It emphasizes that both equilibrium and kinetic processes are important in aquatic systems. The book does not merely focus on inorganic constituents, but also on the fate and reactions of organic chemicals. The solving of quantitative equilibrium and kinetic problems using mathematical, graphical, and computational tools is emphasized throughout presentations on acid-base chemistry, complexation of metal ions, solubility of minerals, and oxidation-reduction reactions. The use of these problem-solving tools is then extended in the presentation of topics relevant to natural systems, including dissolved oxygen, nutrient chemistry, geochemical controls on chemical composition, photochemistry, and natural organic matter. The kinetics and equilibria relevant to engineered systems (e.g., chlorination and disinfection chemistry, sorption and surface chemistry) and organic contaminant chemistry are also discussed. Numerous in-chapter examples that show the application of theory and demonstrate how problems are solved using algebraic, graphical, and computer-based techniques are included. Examples are relevant to both natural waters and engineered systems.
