Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing. house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 25 (thesis year 1980) a total of 10,308 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 214 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 25 reports theses submitted in 1980, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Displacement of Oil by Carbon Dioxide Annual Report October 1978 September 1979

Download or read book Displacement of Oil by Carbon Dioxide Annual Report October 1978 September 1979 written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Good progress has been made on all aspects of the carbon dioxide (CO/sub 2/) research program at the New Mexico Petroleum Recovery Research Center. Construction of high pressure experimental equipment for measurements of CO/sub 2/ displacement efficiency in cores and slim tubes has been completed. A sophisticated apparatus for measurements of phase behavior and fluid properties of mixtures of CO/sub 2/ and crude oils has been designed and built. The experimental setup permits a variety of multiple contact phase behavior experiments which explore mixture compositions which realistically model displacement processes at temperatures and pressures of interest. Gas chromatography techniques previously used to characterize crude oils have been extended to allow analyses of mixtures containing CO/sub 2/ and hydrocarbons ranging from methane to molecules as heavy as tetracontane (C/sub 40/). A series of displacements with alcohol-oil-water mixtures, which are analogue systems with useful similarities to CO/sub 2/-hydrocarbon systems have been completed. A one-dimensonal CO/sub 2/ flooding simulator has been developed which gives excellent agreement between simulated and experimental results for the analogue alcohol-oil-water displacements. Finally, a qualitative analysis is given for the complex phase behavior observed for mixtures of CO/sub 2/ and crude oils at temperatures below 50/sup 0/C and the effects of phase behavior on expected displacement efficiency are calculated. The results indicate that relatively small changes in pressure can be expected to have a strong influence on the efficiency of CO/sub 2/ displacements of crude oils.

Book Application of Optimal Control Theory to Enhanced Oil Recovery

Download or read book Application of Optimal Control Theory to Enhanced Oil Recovery written by W. Fred Ramirez and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, enhanced oil recovery techniques have received much attention in the oil industry. Enhanced oil recovery methods can be divided into three major categories: thermal processes which include steam flooding, steam stimulation, and in-situ combustion; chemical processes which include surfactant-polymer injection, polymer flooding, and caustic flooding; and miscible displacement processes which include miscible hydrocarbon displacement, carbon dioxide injection of large amounts of rather expensive fluids into oil bearing reservoir formations. Commercial application of any enhanced oil recovery process relies upon economic projections that show a decent return on the investment. Because of high chemical costs, it is important to optimize enhanced oil recovery processes to provide the greatest recovery at the lowest chemical injection cost. The aim of this book is to develop an optimal control theory for the determination of operating strategies that maximize the economic attractiveness of enhanced oil recovery processes. The determination of optimal control histories or operating strategies is one of the key elements in the successful usage of new enhanced oil recovery techniques. The information contained in the book will therefore be both interesting and useful to all those working in petroleum engineering, petroleum management and chemical engineering.

Book Developments and Innovation in Carbon Dioxide CO2 Capture and Storage Technology

Download or read book Developments and Innovation in Carbon Dioxide CO2 Capture and Storage Technology written by M. Mercedes Maroto-Valer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-07-13 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS) is the one advanced technology that conventional power generation cannot do without. CCS technology reduces the carbon footprint of power plants by capturing, and storing the CO2 emissions from burning fossil-fuels and biomass. This volume provides a comprehensive reference on the state of the art research, development and demonstration of carbon storage and utilisation, covering all the storage options and their environmental impacts. It critically reviews geological, terrestrial and ocean sequestration, including enhanced oil and gas recovery, as well as other advanced concepts such as industrial utilisation, mineral carbonation, biofixation and photocatalytic reduction. Foreword written by Lord Oxburgh, Climate Science Peer Comprehensively examines the different methods of storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) and the various concepts for utilisation Reviews geological sequestration of CO2, including coverage of reservoir sealing and monitoring and modelling techniques used to verify geological sequestration of CO2
