Download or read book Trade Competition and Domestic Regulatory Policy written by Shanker A. Singham and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-29 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trade, Competition and Domestic Regulatory Policy presents a unique combination of analysis of both international trade and investment policies, and competition and regulatory policies. Increasingly, policymakers, businesses and the law and economics professions need to better understand how changes and policy developments in international trade and competition developed and how their interaction impacts on global business. In addition to providing a comprehensive analysis of the attempts of international trade theory and practice to deal with tariffs, non-tariff barriers, market distortions and failures to protect various kinds of property rights, this book contains a detailed treatment of how property rights protection, including intangible property rights are a critical element of ensuring open trade and competitive markets. It examines how these rights have developed over time, and how they have been integrated into trade and competition policy. This book will be of significant interest to students of international business, professors of economics, law and business, and policymakers at the intersection of trade, investment, competition and property rights.
Download or read book A General Theory of Trade and Competition written by Shanker Singham and published by Cameron May. This book was released on 2007 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Theory of Trade... is the first academic or practitioner text book to establish a general theory of trade and competition and attempts to bring these two disciplines back together. Shanker Singham demonstrates that there is indeed a powerful interface between these two areas and that by understanding this interface practitioners, be they in governments, companies or law and economics firms can succeed in trade negotiations as well as build up support for free trade principles in a time when they are being increasingly challenged. By noting that consumer welfare is enhanced where trade liberalization is accompanied by competitive markets and property rights protection, the author articulates an overall vision in which future policymakers can frame a different kind of trade debate.

Download or read book An EU Competition Court written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Lords: European Union Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-04-23 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large cross-border mergers have to be cleared in advance by the EC Commission. If the Commission prohibits a merger, or a third party objects to the clearance, the decision can be challenged in the Court of First Instance (CFI). However the CFI procedure can take several months, thereby prolonging uncertainty and sometimes causing bids to be abandoned. This is unsatisfactory and the CBI has proposed a new Competition Court as the way forward. This report looks at this proposal and concludes that such a court would not be the best way forward. Instead there is scope for improving current procedures by firmer case management, reducing the work load of the CFI by transferring trade mark cases, and improving the Commission's handling of cases to reduce the number and scope of challenges.
Download or read book Precedents in Zero Energy Design written by Michael Zaretsky and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-10-15 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Michael Zaretsky’s Precedents in Zero-Energy Design is such an important book ... it will help readers recognize that design comes before technology – and renewable energy systems alone can’t solve the problems we face’ – John D. Quale, Assistant Professor of Architecture and ecoMOD Project Director, University of Virginia The world is currently facing an environmental crisis and as anyone interested in sustainable or zero-energy design knows the design and building industries have the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the globe. The Solar Decathlon is an international event in which universities from around the world compete in the design and construction of a one-bedroom, zero-energy house. This book provides an in-depth, yet accessible analysis of the architecture and passive design strategies of the houses in the 2007 Solar Decathlon. These houses are the result of thousands of hours of research and development from twenty universities around the world. Divided into three parts, the book provides: an initial section investigating the architecture, passive design and systems layout of the twenty houses; a diagrammatic comparison of the architecture and passive design characteristics of each of the twenty houses in order of ranking by the Architecture, Comfort Zone and overall scores received in the competition; a deep analysis of the relationship between architecture, passive design and mechanical systems design as compared to the rankings received in the various contests. This analysis considers the decisions made by the competing teams and highlights the success of the design strategies employed. Students, educators, practitioners and researchers of architecture, design and engineering will find this an informative and inspirational book. It examines the relationship between design and environmental principles and provides invaluable insight into some of the most innovative, off-the-grid and zero-energy houses in the world. With a Foreword by John D. Quale, Assistant Professor of Architecture and ecoMOD Project Director, University of Virginia
