Download or read book Competition from The Nu sub E 2 8Pb 2 8Bi E Reaction in a Search For Nu sub Mu bar Nu sub E bar Oscillation written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inverse beta-decay reactions produced by electron neutrinos may compete with muon neutrino reactions in experiments utilizing the neutrino flux from a beam stop. The cross section and angular distribution for one such reaction, .nu./sub e/ 2°8Pb .-->. 2°8Bi e−, have been calculated with the aid of the results of an investigation of 2°8Pb (p, n)2°8Bi at low momentum transfer. The implications of this reaction on an experiment to study neutrino oscillation are discussed. 2 figures.

Book Evidence for Nu Bar Sub Mu to Nu Bar Sub E Oscillations

Download or read book Evidence for Nu Bar Sub Mu to Nu Bar Sub E Oscillations written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for [bar [nu]][sub e]'s in excess of the number expected from conventional sources has been made using the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector, located 30 m behind the LAMPF beam stop. The [bar [nu]][sub e] are detected via [bar [nu]][sub e]p[r-arrow]e[sup +]n with e[sup +] energy between 36 and 60 MeV, followed by a [gamma] from np[r-arrow]d[gamma] (2.2 MeV). Using strict cuts to identify [gamma]'s correlated with an e[sup +] yields 9 events with only 2.1[+-]0.3 background expected. A likelihood fit to the entire e[sup +] sample results in a total excess of 16.4[sup +9.7][sub -8.9][+-]3.3 events. If attributed to [bar [nu]][sub [mu]][r-arrow][bar [nu]][sub e] oscillations, this corresponds to an oscillation probability of (0.34[sup +0.200][sub -0.18][+-]0.07)%.

Book A Search For Nu Sub E Appearance from Stopped Pi Sup And Mu Sup Decay at LAMPF Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility

Download or read book A Search For Nu Sub E Appearance from Stopped Pi Sup And Mu Sup Decay at LAMPF Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on a recent search for {bar?}{sub e} appearance from stopped? →?+?{sub?} and?+ → e+?{sub e}{bar?}{sub?} decay made by the LAMPF experiment E645. The appearance of {bar?}{sub e} may occur from {bar?}{sub {mu}} → {bar?}{sub e},?{sub e} → {bar {nu}}{sub eL}, or {nu}{sub {mu}} → {bar {nu}}{sub eL} oscillations. Appearance may also occur from rare {mu}+ → e+{bar {nu}}{sub e}{nu}{sub {mu}} decay, which is allowed by a multiplicative lepton charge conservation law. The neutrino energies range from E{sub {nu}} = 0 to 52.8MeV. The neutrino detector, which is located 26.1 meters from the neutrino source, consists of a segmented liquid scintillator and proportional drift tube central detector surrounded by both active and passive shielding. The central detector detects {bar {nu}}{sub e} through the {bar {nu}}{sub e}p → ne+ Charge Current (CC) reaction, which is signaled by the direct detection of the final state positron and neutron. The hydrogen-rich liquid scintillators act as free proton targets for the {bar {nu}}{sub e}p CC reaction. The neutrons are detected through radiative neutron capture on gadolinium. We find no evidence for {bar {nu}}{sub e} appearance in the first year of running. New limits on the {bar {nu}}{sub {mu}}, {nu}{sub e}, {nu}{sub {mu}} → {bar {nu}}{sub e} oscillation parameters and the rare {mu}+ → e+{bar {nu}}{sub e}{nu}{sub {mu}} decay branching ratio are presented. 87 refs., 45 figs., 17 tabs.

Book Results of the LSND Search for ovr nu sub mu yields ovr nu sub E Oscillations

Download or read book Results of the LSND Search for ovr nu sub mu yields ovr nu sub E Oscillations written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for [ovr [nu]][sub [mu]][yields][ovr [nu]][sub e] oscillations has been conducted at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility by using [ovr [nu]][sub [mu]] from [mu][sup +] decay at rest. The [ovr [nu]][sub e] are detected via the reaction [ovr [nu]][sub e]p [yields] e[sup +] n, correlated with a [gamma] from np [yields] d[gamma] (2.2 MeV). The use of tight cuts to identify e[sup +] events with correlated [gamma] rays yields 22 events with e[sup +] energy between 36 and 60 MeV and only 4.6 [plus-minus] 0.6 background events. The probability that this observation can be explained by statistical fluctuation is less than 10[sup -7]. Assuming these events are due to oscillations, a likelihood fit to all the e[sup +] events between 20 and 60 MeV has been performed to extract the oscillation parameters sin[sup 2] 2[theta] and [Delta]m[sup 2]. The favored region resulting from this fit is shown.

Book Nu Sub E Appearance For Nu Sub Mu Endash Nu Sub Tau Oscillations in Matter

Download or read book Nu Sub E Appearance For Nu Sub Mu Endash Nu Sub Tau Oscillations in Matter written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New ranges of neutrino oscillation parameters can be probed by sending accelerator produced v[mu] to large neutrino detectors thousands of kilometers away. Since the neutrino propagation is through the Earth, the v{sub e} - v{sub {tau}} mixing can be enhanced by matter effects. Then a neutrino coupled dominantly to the v, with a mass squared of 10−3 eV2 to 10−1 eV2, may most easily be observed by a v{sub e} appearance experiment.

Book Search for Bs Bsbar Oscillations with a Charge Dipole Technique at SLD

Download or read book Search for Bs Bsbar Oscillations with a Charge Dipole Technique at SLD written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the electroweak theory and general relativity currently give an accurate description of all known phenomena in fundamental physics. No experimental facts are known that disagree with these theories. The Standard Model (SM) incorporates QCD and the electroweak theory. Its matter content consists of spin 1/2 quarks and leptons, and spin 1 gauge bosons. They are considered to be elementary, meaning that they have no constituents. There are six quark flavors (up, down, charm, strange, top and bottom) and in addition to its spin each of the quarks has a second degree of freedom, called color, which can have three different values. There are also six different leptons, e, [nu][sub e], [mu], [nu][sub[mu]], [tau] and[nu][sub[tau]]. Forces between fermions due to the electroweak interaction are mediated by exchanges of four gauge bosons ([gamma], W[sup+], W[sup -] and Z[sup 0]); and the forces due to the strong interaction, or QCD, are mediated by eight gauge bosons, the gluons. An in depth description of the SM can be found in[1], [2].

Book excerpt: We present results to date from an experiment in progress by an Irvine, Los Alamos, and Maryland collaboration at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) beam stop. We have observed a signal consistent with nu/sub e/-e elastic scattering in a 15-metric-ton detector composed of modules of flash chambers and scintillation counters. A preliminary cross section for this process is compared to that expected from the GWS model that includes the interference between charged and neutral currents. We also set limits on the probability for exotic muon decay ..mu ... -->..enu/sub ..mu../anti nu/sub e/ and on the neutrino oscillation mode anti nu/sub ..mu../..-->..anti nu/sub e/ from normal muon decay ..mu..+..-->..e+anti nu/sub ..mu../nu/sub e/. 4 references.

Download or read book Measurement of The bar B yields D ell bar nu Anti Neutrino Partial Width and Form Factor Parameters written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied the decay[bar B][yields] D[ell][bar[nu]], where[ell]= e or[mu]. From a fit to the differential decay rate d[Lambda]/dw we measure the rate normalization F[sub D](1)V[sub cb] and form factor slope[rho][sub D][sup 2], and, using measured values of[tau][sub B], find[Lambda]([bar B][yields] D[ell][bar[nu]])= (12.0[+-] 0.9[+-] 2.1) ns[sup -1]. The resulting branching fractions are[Beta]([bar B][sup 0][yields] D[sup+][ell][sup -][bar[nu]])= (1.87[+-] 0.15[+-] 0.32)% and[Beta](B[sup -][yields] D[sup 0][ell][sup -][bar[nu]])= (1.94[+-] 0.15[+-] 0.34)%. The form factor parameters are in agreement with those measured in[bar B][yields] D*[ell][bar[nu]] decays, as predicted by heavy quark effective theory.
