Book Comparison of Two Methods Used to Measure Aerodynamic Loads Acting on Captive Store Models in Wind Tunnel Tests

Download or read book Comparison of Two Methods Used to Measure Aerodynamic Loads Acting on Captive Store Models in Wind Tunnel Tests written by R. E. Dix and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a series of wind tunnel tests, measurements were made of the aerodynamic loads acting on eight different store configurations supported in and near the external captive position on a 1/20-scale model of the F-4C aircraft. Store models included blunt and contoured afterbody shapes, stable and unstable configurations, and large (pylon-mounted) and small (rack-mounted) configurations. Six components of forces and moments were measured using two methods of supporting the store models: an internal bracket support technique (IBS), and a dual sting support technique. Some characteristics of the interference flow field of the aircraft were also inferred.

Book Comparison of Wind Tunnel and Flight Test Measurements of Static Aerodynamic Loading of a Captive Store

Download or read book Comparison of Wind Tunnel and Flight Test Measurements of Static Aerodynamic Loading of a Captive Store written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A coordinated series of experiments was conducted in three wind tunnels and in flight to measure the static aerodynamic loading of a MK 83 store attached to the bottom center station of a triple ejector rack mounted on the left inboard pylon of an F-4 aircraft. Fundamental agreement between wind tunnel and inflight loads data was demonstrated over a range of angle of attack from -2 to 6 deg and a Mach number range from 0.6 to 0.9. Differences that were noted were thought to be attributable either to improper store-to-aircraft alignment or to poor definition of inertial loads during maneuvering flight. (Author).

Book Influences of Sway Braces and Mounting Gaps on the Static Aerodynamic Loading of External Stores

Download or read book Influences of Sway Braces and Mounting Gaps on the Static Aerodynamic Loading of External Stores written by R. E. Dix and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the scale factor applied in the design of wind tunnel models is reduced, many details of the configuration being simulated are customarily omitted. A series of experiments was conducted in the Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel (4T) of the Propulsion Wind Tunnel Facility at the Arnold Engineering Development Center to evaluate the effect on captive store loading of model details such as sway braces and mounting gaps existing between store and aircraft components. Six components of aerodynamic loads acting on both pylon- and rack-mounted stores in the captive position were measured, a limited number of store separation trajectories was predicted using the captive trajectory system, and a brief comparison of wind tunnel and in-flight measurements of captive loads was made. It was determined that the effects of mounting gaps or flow ventilation passages were generally small, but that sway braces can significantly influence both captive loads and separation trajectories. It was also observed that better agreement between wind tunnel and in-flight measurements of captive store loading resulted when mounting gaps and sway braces were simulated on the wind-tunnel models. Book Comparison of Store Trajectory and Aerodynamic Loads and Model Flow field Characteristics Obtained in the AEDC PWT 4T and VFK A Wind Tunnels at Mach Number 1 63

Download or read book Comparison of Store Trajectory and Aerodynamic Loads and Model Flow field Characteristics Obtained in the AEDC PWT 4T and VFK A Wind Tunnels at Mach Number 1 63 written by D. W Hill (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted in the VKF/A and PWT/4T wind tunnels at AEDC to obtain captive trajectory, aerodynamic loads, and flowfield data in order to assess the ability to reproduce trajectories from tunnel to tunnel. The data were obtained with a 0.05-scale generalized shape aircraft model, an ogive-cylinder store model, and conical flow survey probes at and near the centerline fuselage station pylon and the wing 1/3-semispan station pylon. The tests were conducted at a Mach number of 1.63 with aircraft model angle of attack set at zero. Generally, the trajectories obtained in the two wind tunnels compared well. There was very good agreement in the translational motion of the store trajectories, with only slight differences in the angular motion in selected cases. (Author).

Book Evaluation of an Internal Balance supporting Bracket Simulating Lug Suspension for Captive Stores in Wind Tunnel Tests

Download or read book Evaluation of an Internal Balance supporting Bracket Simulating Lug Suspension for Captive Stores in Wind Tunnel Tests written by R. E. Dix and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind tunnel measurements of the aerodynamic loads acting on two store configurations supported in the external captive position on a 1/20-scale model of the F-4C aircraft have been made. The store models represented stable and unstable pylon-mounted configurations. Six components of forces and moments were measured using an internal strain-gage balance supported by a bracket extending through the upper surface of the store and attached firmly to the left inboard pylon of the aircraft. Two designs of bracket were used, one a solid blade with the appearance of an extension of the pylon, and the other fabricated to the same dimensions but 'ventilated' by cutting a slot through the solid blade so that the remaining bracket material simulated suspension lugs. Measurable differences in forces and moments acting in the longitudinal plane of the store were detected for both stable and unstable stores. From an analysis of the force and moment measurements, it is probable that the pressure distribution over the after portion of a store is altered when using the ventilated bracket. (Author).
