This book was released on 1960 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of analysis for thin-walled circular shells having variable thickness in the longitudinal direction and subjected to arbitrary pressure distributions are discussed. Methods suitable for digital machine computation are given for two types of problems. In the first case the shell is assumed to be free at one end and clamped at the other. It is loaded by a pressure distribution symmetrical about a plane containing the axis of the cylinder but otherwise arbitrary. The second case treated is that of a cylindrical shell subjected to a rotationally symmetric pressure or temperature distribution and with various end conditions. A numerical example is given for the free-clamped end case and the results are compared with experimental data. The method for rotationally symmetric pressure and temperature distributions is applied to some problems for which closed form solutions are possible and the results are compared with these exact solutions. Book Vibration Analysis of Cylindrical Shells by Several Finite Difference Schemes

Download or read book Vibration Analysis of Cylindrical Shells by Several Finite Difference Schemes written by Robert E. Ball and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several finite differencing schemes are used to compute the natural frequencies and mode shapes of simply supported circular cylindrical shells in an attempt to determine the most accurate numerical mode. Sets of difference equations are developed from the governing differential field equations and by minimizing the finite difference form of the Lagrangian energy function. Both finite differences and trigonometric expansions are used to model the circumferential behavior. Staggered or half-stations are used in addition to the conventional differencing schemes. The results indicate that the schemes using the trigonometric expansions are generally more accurate than those using finite differences for the circumferential derivatives. Furthermore, the conventional differencing scheme is shown to be as accurate as the half-station scheme when the field equation approach is used in conjunction with the trigonometric expansions. Book Computational Tensor Analysis of Shell Structures

Download or read book Computational Tensor Analysis of Shell Structures written by Steve Naomis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a method which is capable of evaluating the deformation characteristics of thin shell structures A free vibration analysis is chosen as a convenient means of studying the displacement behaviour of the shell, enabling it to deform naturally without imposing any particular loading conditions. The strain-displacement equations for thin shells of arbitrary geometry are developed. These relationships are expressed in general curvilinear coordinates and are formulated entirely in the framework of tensor calculus. The resulting theory is not restricted to shell structures characterized by any particular geometric form, loading or boundary conditions. The complete displacement and strain equations developed by Flugge are approximated by the curvilinear finite difference method and are applied to computing the natural frequencies and mode shapes of general thin shells. This approach enables both the displacement components and geometric properties of the shell to be approximated numerically and accurately. The selection of an appropriate displacement field to approximate the deformation of the shell within each finite difference mesh is discussed in detail. In addition, comparisons are made between the use of second and third-order finite difference interpolation meshes.
