Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book offers an interdisciplinary overview of the film and place relationship from an intercultural perspective. It explores the complex domain of place and space in cinema and the film industry's role in establishing cultural connections and economic cooperation between India and Europe. With contributions from leading international scholars, various case studies scrutinise European and Indian contexts, exploring both the established and emerging locations. The book extends the dominantly Britain-oriented focus on India’s cinema presence in Europe to European countries such as Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Slovenia, Finland, and Sweden, where the Indian film industry progressively expands its presence. The chapters of this book look at Indian film production in Europe as a cultural bridge between India and Europe, fostering mutual understanding of the culture and society of the two regions. This interdisciplinary book will be of interest to researchers in film studies, cultural anthropology, cultural geography, tourism, economics, sociology, and cultural studies. It will also be interest to practitioners working in local authorities, destination management, tourism, and creative business, all of whom see the value of film production in attracting visitors, investment, and creating new networks with local economic actors. Book Development of the Global Film Industry

Download or read book Development of the Global Film Industry written by Qiao Li and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global film industry has witnessed significant transformations in the past few years. Regions outside the USA have begun to prosper while non-traditional production companies such as Netflix have assumed a larger market share and online movies adapted from literature have continued to gain in popularity. How have these trends shaped the global film industry? This book answers this question by analyzing an increasingly globalized business through a global lens. Development of the Global Film Industry examines the recent history and current state of the business in all parts of the world. While many existing studies focus on the internal workings of the industry, such as production, distribution and screening, this study takes a "big picture" view, encompassing the transnational integration of the cultural and entertainment industry as a whole, and pays more attention to the coordinated development of the film industry in the light of influence from literature, television, animation, games and other sectors. This volume is a critical reference for students, scholars and the public to help them understand the major trends facing the global film industry in today’s world.

Download or read book Futurecast written by Robert J. Shapiro and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2009-07-21 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What will life be like in America, Europe, Japan or China in the year 2020? As everyone's lives across the world are become increasingly interconnected by globalization and new technologies quicken the pace of everything, the answer to that question depends on the fate and paths of the world's major nations. In Futurecast, Robert Shapiro, former U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce and Chairman/Co-founder of Sonecon, looks into the future to tell us what our world will over the next dozen years. Though that time span seems brief, Shapiro foresees monumental changes caused by three historic new forces—globalization, the aging of societies, and the rise of America as a sole superpower with no near peer— will determine the paths of nations and the lives of countless millions. What jobs will there be for you and your children? What will happen to your health care? How safe will you be at home or abroad? Answers to these questions will depend, even more than today, on where you live in the world: • Even as China expands its military and its economy, America will be the world's sole superpower for at least the next generation, and continue to lead efforts to preserve global security and stability. • The U.S. and China will be the world's two indispensable economies, dominating the course of globalization. • Globalization will continue to shift most heavy manufacturing and millions of high-end service jobs from advanced countries like the US, to China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Romania, Turkey and other developing nations. • Europe's major nations and Japan will face the prospect of genuine economic decline and critical problems in their retirement pension systems, moving further towards the periphery of global economic and geopolitical power. • Every major country—the U.S., Europe, Japan, China—will face critical problems with their health care systems, and the entire world will face a crisis over energy and climate change. If one adds the wildcard of possible, catastrophic terrorist attacks to this mix, the period between now and 2020 will be as challenging as any in modern times. Taking these deep global developments into account when planning for the future isa necessity. Robert Shapiro's clear-eyed Futurecast is the knowledge portfolio you need to prepare for the years to come.

Book The Indian Media Economy 2 volume set

Download or read book The Indian Media Economy 2 volume set written by Adrian Athique and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-12-29 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-first century has witnessed the rise of India as a major media producer and consumer market increasingly engaged with the global economy. Aided by rising incomes, technological remediation, regulatory strategies, and a shifting political terrain, the business of media has been given official recognition as a substantive component of India’s economy and as a prominent feature of its economic thinking. In light of these developments, these two pioneering volumes investigate the dynamics of an increasingly integrated media economy encompassing television, film, music, sport, and telecoms. Volume 1: Industrial Dynamics and Cultural Adaptation illustrates the distinctive industrial dynamics of India’s media economy, tracking the deeply embedded cultural, political, and economic forces that determine its everyday operation. The selection of essays serves to demonstrate the unique patterns of development and the complex field of exchanges that have constituted India’s media economy. As a whole, this volume posits a comprehensive approach to understanding the nature of media resources, the negotiation of industrial norms and the cultural context of a media economy firmly situated in the realities of India’s distinct regions, cultures, and human networks. Volume 2: Market Dynamics and Social Transactions provides a comprehensive analysis of the interlocking markets that constitute the media economy, focusing upon its particular commodity forms, labour conditions, and spaces of consumption. Taking account of a rich set of case studies, this volume argues for the necessary consideration of multiple and interdependent markets in explicating our everyday encounters with media. By foregrounding the social transactions that encapsulate market exchanges, it begins to illustrate some of the novel aspirations, meanings, and relationships arising with India’s media economy.

Book A composite index of quality of life for the Gauteng city region a principal component analysis approach

Download or read book A composite index of quality of life for the Gauteng city region a principal component analysis approach written by Talita Greyling and published by Gauteng City Region Observatory (GCRO). This book was released on with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The improvement of the quality of life of all South Africans is high on the agenda at national (The National Planning Commission, 2012) and regional levels of government (The Gauteng Planning Commission, 2012) and it is therefore important to develop an instrument that can measure this multi-dimensional concept. The need therefore exists for a composite index of quality of life with the ability to both track the quality of life of people over time and compare it across different demographic and socio-economic groups. Such a measure could identify those demographic and socio-economic groups with low levels of quality of life and also highlight dimensions that need to be prioritised in order to improve the wellbeing of people. In South Africa there are a limited number of quality of life indices and measures of wellbeing. Indices that measure wellbeing nationally include: the Quality of Life Index of Moller and Schlemmer (1983), the Living Standard Measure (LSM) Index produced by the South African Audience Research Foundation (SAARF) (2013), the South African Development Index of the South African Institute of Race Relations (2011), and the Everyday Quality of Life Index (Higgs, 2007). The following indices measure wellbeing at a regional level: the Quality of Metropolitan City Life in South Africa Index (Naude, et al., 2009), the Non-Economic Quality of Life Index at Sub-National Levels (Rossouw & Naude, 2008) and the Quality of Life Index of the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO, 2011). Although these quality of life indices make distinctive contributions to the study field, the focus of these studies is often to measure only objective or subjective quality of life or only economic or non-economic quality of life, rather than all of the above. Furthermore, many of the indices use equal weighting, which does not necessarily reflect the priorities of the communities.

Book Innovation Economic Development and Intellectual Property in India and China

Download or read book Innovation Economic Development and Intellectual Property in India and China written by Kung-Chung Liu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book analyses intellectual property codification and innovation governance in the development of six key industries in India and China. These industries are reflective of the innovation and economic development of the two economies, or of vital importance to them: the IT Industry; the film industry; the pharmaceutical industry; plant varieties and food security; the automobile industry; and peer production and the sharing economy. The analysis extends beyond the domain of IP law, and includes economics and policy analysis. The overarching concern that cuts through all chapters is an inquiry into why certain industries have developed in one country and not in the other, including: the role that state innovation policy and/or IP policy played in such development; the nature of the state innovation policy/IP policy; and whether such policy has been causal, facilitating, crippling, co-relational, or simply irrelevant. The book asks what India and China can learn from each other, and whether there is any possibility of synergy. The book provides a real-life understanding of how IP laws interact with innovation and economic development in the six selected economic sectors in China and India. The reader can also draw lessons from the success or failure of these sectors.
