Download or read book Stranded Assets and Thermal Coal written by Ben Caldecott and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal aim of this report is to turn the latest research on environment-related risk factors facing thermal coal assets into actionable investment hypotheses for investors. By examining the fundamental drivers of environment-related risk, creating appropriate measures to differentiate the exposure of different assets to these risks, and linking this analysis to company ownership, debt issuance, and capital expenditure plans, our research can help to inform specific investor actions related to risk management, screening, voting, engagement, and disinvestment. To our knowledge, this report contains the most comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the environment-related risks facing thermal coal companies that is publicly available.
Download or read book Higher Education in Asia written by UNESCO Institute for Statistics and published by United Nations Education, Scientific & Cultural Organization. This book was released on 2014 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As demand for tertiary education continues to rise across Asia, countries are expanding their higher education systems outwards by constructing new universities, hiring more faculty and encouraging private provision. Many of these systems are also moving upwards by introducing new graduate programmes to ensure that there are enough qualified professors and researchers for the future. Based on data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and a diverse range of national and international sources, this report provides a comprehensive view to evaluate different strategies to expand graduate education. Special focus is given to middle-income countries in the region which have recently experienced the most dramatic growth through an innovative mix of policies. For example, interventions aimed at improving university rankings may be controversial but are nonetheless reshaping university reforms. The report highlights the pros and cons by comparing the three most commonly-used university ranking systems. Across the region, countries are not simply seeking to accommodate more students - they are striving to build top-quality universities that can produce the research and workforce needed for national economic development. So this report presents a range of data to better evaluate the economic benefits flowing from university research, as well as the spillover effects to the private sector. The authors also analyse the ways in which international collaboration can boost the productivity and quality of university-based research. Overall, this report provides the data and analysis to help countries weigh the balance of different policies to expand their higher education systems.

Download or read book Model Free Adaptive Control written by Zhongsheng Hou and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Model Free Adaptive Control: Theory and Applications summarizes theory and applications of model-free adaptive control (MFAC). MFAC is a novel adaptive control method for the unknown discrete-time nonlinear systems with time-varying parameters and time-varying structure, and the design and analysis of MFAC merely depend on the measured input and output data of the controlled plant, which makes it more applicable for many practical plants. This book covers new concepts, including pseudo partial derivative, pseudo gradient, pseudo Jacobian matrix, and generalized Lipschitz conditions, etc.; dynamic linearization approaches for nonlinear systems, such as compact-form dynamic linearization, partial-form dynamic linearization, and full-form dynamic linearization; a series of control system design methods, including MFAC prototype, model-free adaptive predictive control, model-free adaptive iterative learning control, and the corresponding stability analysis and typical applications in practice. In addition, some other important issues related to MFAC are also discussed. They are the MFAC for complex connected systems, the modularized controller designs between MFAC and other control methods, the robustness of MFAC, and the symmetric similarity for adaptive control system design. The book is written for researchers who are interested in control theory and control engineering, senior undergraduates and graduated students in engineering and applied sciences, as well as professional engineers in process control.

It explores the early days of urban dwelling in China, progressing to an analysis of residential environments in the industrial age. It also examines China’s modern and postmodern architecture, considered as derivative or lacking spiritual meaning or personality, and showcases how China's traditional culture underpins the emergence of China’s modern cities. Focusing on the notion of “courtyard spirit” in China, it offers a study of the urban public squares central to Chinese society, and examines the disruption of the traditional Square model and the rise and growth of new architectural models.
Download or read book Hong Kong Cinema written by Yingchi Chu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-08-29 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining Hong Kong cinema from its inception in 1913 to the end of the colonial era, this work explains the key areas of production, market, film products and critical traditions. Hong Kong Cinema considers the different political formations of Hong Kong's culture as seen through the cinema, and deals with the historical, political, economic and cultural relations between Hong Kong cinema and other Chinese film industries on the mainland, as well as in Taiwan and South-East Asia. Discussion covers the concept of 'national cinema' in the context of Hong Kong's status as a quasi-nation with strong links to both the 'motherland' (China) and the 'coloniser' (Britain), and also argues that Hong Kong cinema is a national cinema only in an incomplete and ambiguous sense.
