Book Community Care Practice and the Law

Download or read book Community Care Practice and the Law written by Michael Mandelstam and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Community Care Practice and the Lawhas been substantially rewritten and restructured to reflect the rapid change affecting community care in legislation, the law courts, policy and practice. The book bridges the gap between law and practice by juxtaposing fully and systematically legislation, legal judgments in the courts, local ombudsman and health service ombudsman findings, Parliamentary debates and answers, and numerous reports about practice from the Department of Health, voluntary organisations, professional associations and academics. Distinctive features of the book include: two large digests of cases containing well over three hundred legal judgments and local ombudsman investigations; a chapter consisting of a practical checklist of questions - for managers, practitioners and users of services and their advisors - to check the lawfulness of policies, eligibility criteria and individual decisions; two overview, stand-alone chapters, one summarising the system, the other highlighting underlying themes and mechanisms; an inclusive approach embracing not only a range of both residential and non-residential care services, but also equipment and home adaptations, carers, direct payments, NHS services generally and continuing care, moving and handling law, legislation and guidance (old and new) underlying joint working and joint finance; avoidance of jargon.

Book Complex Policy Planning

Download or read book Complex Policy Planning written by Philip Haynes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this book examines recent developments in the application of chaos and complexity theory to the applied social sciences and the implications for the government planning of social care services. The study argues that there are fundamental limitations to traditional government political and managerial planning structures. Chaos and complexity theory shows that the effects of time and space are critical aspects for planners to consider. Small changes in isolated social or individual factors can have larger scale effects on the future validity of a policy programme. In particular, rigid linear statistical calculations like the Government Standard Spending Assessment can undermine the ability of local authorities to make realistic plans. It is proposed that government political strategies and managerial methods of analysis need to better understand the complexity of information available to them. New political and institutional typologies are required if planning activity is to evolve to be of optimal social value.

Book Long Term Care Matching Resources and Needs

Download or read book Long Term Care Matching Resources and Needs written by David Challis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improving equity and efficiency in the long-term care of older people is an international concern, with governments attempting to ensure that policies and practice develop so that resources are used to best effect. This requires good quality evidence founded on sound theory. This volume honours the outstanding contribution of Bleddyn Davies to this field, bringing together perspectives of scholars and practitioners from many countries including the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Sweden and the USA. Contemporary policy dilemmas are considered, leavened by professional anecdote. A chapter from Davies himself, reflecting on the origins of the PSSRU (Personal Social Services Research Unit), concludes the volume that also features a full listing of his books and monographs, which will prove invaluable to those seeking to engage with his contribution to the field. This volume will greatly interest academics in social policy, social work, gerontology and social care as well as professionals in the field.

Book Improving Health in the Community

Download or read book Improving Health in the Community written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-05-21 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do communities protect and improve the health of their populations? Health care is part of the answer but so are environmental protections, social and educational services, adequate nutrition, and a host of other activities. With concern over funding constraints, making sure such activities are efficient and effective is becoming a high priority. Improving Health in the Community explains how population-based performance monitoring programs can help communities point their efforts in the right direction. Within a broad definition of community health, the committee addresses factors surrounding the implementation of performance monitoring and explores the "why" and "how to" of establishing mechanisms to monitor the performance of those who can influence community health. The book offers a policy framework, applies a multidimensional model of the determinants of health, and provides sets of prototype performance indicators for specific health issues. Improving Health in the Community presents an attainable vision of a process that can achieve community-wide health benefits.

Book Quality care for elderly people

Download or read book Quality care for elderly people written by Edward J. Dickinson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is all about improving the health care of elderly people, which is facing unprecedented challenges in the 1990s. Energies need to be concentrated in three main areas: • the development of high quality care in community settings • the future role of specialized hospital services • the way that long-term care is delivered. All of these are interconnected and success with any of them depends on successful relationships. For example, success in community care requires working interfaces with primary care, the private sector and hospital care. These interfaces are not static but comprise dynamic interactions between people - people in different teams, with different back grounds, training, perspectives and interests. What people do is influenced strongly by the organizations they work for. These inescapable facts lead us to the structure of this book. By concentrating on sectors, people and organizations, we hope to deal with all the important relationships in a coherent way. Yet this book is not intended to be from a service providers' perspective. We have arranged the book in this way so that providers are best equipped to meet the needs of their customers - whether they are patients, resi dents or clients. We know that elderly people may experience dislocation in their care because of frictions and gaps be tween different sectors, disciplines, teams and organizations. To achieve seamless care, there is a need for greater under standing and harmony of purpose and action across the care spectrum.

Book Intermediate and Continuing Care

Download or read book Intermediate and Continuing Care written by Brenda Roe and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intermediate care comprises strategies which allow early discharge from acute care, prevent admission or re-admission to acute care and avoid bed-blocking in both acute and long-term residential care. It encompasses a range of short-term options including rapid response, hospital at home, residential rehabilitation, supported discharge and day rehabilitation. Continuing Care is delivered on a long-term basis in a variety of settings and often includes an element of rehabilitation. Although these two types of care have distinct objectives, they are interrelated as changes in the supply of one type of care may affect demands for the other. In addition, from a patient perspective, intermediate and continuing care might be seen as part of the continuum of care options that are supplied to meet their needs. This book argues for consideration of intermediate and continuing care as part of the care continuum that provides integrated care adopting whole system approaches. This edited volume explores policy, practice and current issues in intermediate and continuing care. It will be of interest to allhealth and social care professionals involved in the provision and planning of care for older people. It falls in three parts: intermediate care, continuing care, and a shorter section on patient and public involvement and future directions.
