Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capelin (Mallotus villosus) is commercially fished in the Estuary and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The main goal of this survey was to update and present biological, commercial capture and by-catch data collected for capelin in 2001 and 2002. Its second goal was to compute and update 2 indices to describe the dispersion of the capelin in the Estuary and the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Book Capelin Mallotus Villosus Fishery Biology and Distribution in NAFO Divisions 4RST in 2003

Download or read book Capelin Mallotus Villosus Fishery Biology and Distribution in NAFO Divisions 4RST in 2003 written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this document is to update and present the biological data, the commercial landings and the by-catch of capelin collected in 2003. The 2nd objective is to update 2 indices that describe the capelin dispersion in the Estuary and Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Both indices are derived from the capelin catches during groundfish and shrimp abundance surveys and are defined in the following way: total surface area associated with a minimal probability of 50% of finding capelin; mean probabilities of finding capelin.

Book Fishery and Biological Characteristics of the Capelin Mallotus Villosus in the Gulf of St Lawrence 1984 92

Download or read book Fishery and Biological Characteristics of the Capelin Mallotus Villosus in the Gulf of St Lawrence 1984 92 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data gathered since 1984 from a commercial sampling program of capelin catches and shrimp-groundfish survey catches between 1990 and 1992 are analyzed to update our knowledge of the fishery and biological characteristics of the species. Distribution patterns for Gulf of St. Lawrence capelin are relatively constant from year to year. The main length classes change from year to year but three year old fish are always predominant. Males are generally longer and heavier than females of the same age. For a given length, capelin from Division 4R weigh more than those from 4S and 4T Divisions. The fishery is based on the presence of only two age classes and ripe females are the main target. Landings may therefore fluctuate with variations in recruitment. Results presented here may help those involved in this fishery when considering new market possibilities.

Book Capelin Mallotus Villosus Biology and History of the Fishery in the Northern Gulf of St Lawrence Div 4RS

Download or read book Capelin Mallotus Villosus Biology and History of the Fishery in the Northern Gulf of St Lawrence Div 4RS written by Brian Shyozo Nakashima and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capelin in the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence were observed in three distinct areas: 1) the St. Lawrence estuary, 2) east of Anticosti Island, and 3) the northeastern portion of the Gulf in the Esquiman Channel. Distribution maps plotted from groundfish, redfish and shrimp, and pelagic surveys demonstrated that capelin were aggregated in these areas throughout the year except in spring during spawning season. Further research is required to demonstrate whether the three groups are separate stocks. Growth has not varied greatly since 1976. Annual landings from the commercial purse seine fishery has varied from 1500 to 8200 mt in Div. 4R since 1977.

Book Capelin Mallotus Villosus Catches and Landings in the Estuary and Gulf of St Lawrence for 1998

Download or read book Capelin Mallotus Villosus Catches and Landings in the Estuary and Gulf of St Lawrence for 1998 written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the capelin's key role in the marine ecosystem and the absence of an abundance survey specific to the species, capelin landings and bycatches must be monitored annually. The main objective of this document is to update and present the latest data derived from commercial fishing, bycatches and commercial sampling of the species in the St. Lawrence Estuary and Gulf.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this report is to provide up-to-date information on capelin (Mallotus villosus) fishing and sampling operations in the Estuary and Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Another aim is to describe the by-catches of capelin made by shrimpers and in the sentinel fisheries directed at cod, along with the catches made during the annual groundfish and shrimp assessment survey in the northern Gulf. The report includes information on landings, weight, length, and distribution.

Book Capelin Mallotus Villosus in the Gulf of St Lawrence

Download or read book Capelin Mallotus Villosus in the Gulf of St Lawrence written by J. E. Carscadden and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "During the early 1970's, a foreign fishery for capelin developed in the Northwest Atlantic. From 1973 to 1975 Industrial Development Branch conducted exploratory fishing to aid the Canadian fishing industry in catching capelin (Hinds 1975). However, it is only in the most recent years that Canadian fishermen have shown an interest in taking capelin to supply the Japanese market for roe capelin. This interest has been evident in the Gulf of St. Lawrence notably the west coast of Newfoundland (landings 1977: 1514 m tons; 1978: 8341 m tons) and in New Brunswick. This paper reviews selected aspects of capelin biology and presents new data pertinent to the management of capelin in the Gulf of St. Lawrence"--Introduction.
