As in the first volume, this book will focus on Europe and on countries which have been influenced by the European experience such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States of America, Quebec, and the countries of Latin America. Further chapters are devoted to Islamic Law and Nordic law. With this report The Council of Europe wishes to contribute in a practical manner to the celebration of the United Nations Decade of International Law (1989-1999) and to facilitate the understanding of how States can help to build a stable and peaceful international community by paving the way for the pregressive development of international law in this area.
