Le modèle que nous proposons repose sur l'application du principe fondamental de la dynamique et considère la plupart des caractéristiques mécaniques du robot mobile. Plus complet, ce modèle remplace avantageusement le modèle cinématique utilisé habituellement en robotique mobile. Par ailleurs, sa formulation finale reste relativement simple ce qui permet son utilisation dans le cadre d'applications temps réel. Ce modèle a été ensuite mis à profit dans le cadre de deux applications différentes: la stabilisation de configurations fixes et la commande référencée vision. Concernant la stabilisation de configurations fixes, la commande qui a été développée permet le suivi d'une trajectoire optimale lissée par des portions de clothoïdes. La commande référencée vision exploite le système de vision stéréoscopique embarqué sur le robot mobile.

Book excerpt: The range of motions that humanoid robots are able to realize is strongly limited by inherent dynamical constraints so that any control law that does not consider these limitations, in one way or another, will fail to avoid falling. The Model Predictive Control (MPC) technique is capable of handling constraints on the state and the control explicitly, which makes it highly apt for the control of walking robots.We begin by unveiling the specific structure of these constraints, stressing especially the impor- tance of the supports on the ground. We give thereupon a sufficient condition for keeping balance and formulate an MPC law that complies with it. This formulation serves us then for the design of practicable controllers capable of more efficient and more robust control of humanoid robots.

By establishing close links between these four texts, it becomes possible to achieve a more comprehensive understanding, not only of the significance of the tetralogy in exposing a complex and multi-layered novelistic strategy at the heart of the vianesque, but of the individual novels as autonomous creations. An examination of the novels reveals that they are not merely joined to one another via a superficial network of textual similarities (that which I refer to as intratextuality), but that this intertwining is emblematic of a common method of narrative construction. Each Vian novel is dependent, for a thorough understanding of the text to be possible, upon the multiple lines of external influence running through it. The sources of this influence (which I refer to as intertextuality) are located in various major texts of twentieth century literature, anglophone as well as francophone. Thus, in each instance the narrative is driven by a complicated interaction of intratextuality and intertextuality."

This book is an applications-oriented study of such physical systems; in particular, those which can be described by an elliptic partial differential equation and where the shape is found by the minimum of a single criterion function. There are many problems of this type in high-technology industries. In fact, most numerical simulations of physical systems are solved not to gain better understanding of the phenomena but to obtain better control and design. Problems of this type are described in Chapter 2. Traditionally, optimal shape design has been treated as a branch of the calculus of variations and more specifically of optimal control. This subject interfaces with no less than four fields: optimization, optimal control, partial differential equations (PDEs), and their numerical solutions-this is the most difficult aspect of the subject. Each of these fields is reviewed briefly: PDEs (Chapter 1), optimization (Chapter 4), optimal control (Chapter 5), and numerical methods (Chapters 1 and 4).
