Book Combined Analysis

Download or read book Combined Analysis written by Daniel Chateigner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces and details the key facets of Combined Analysis—an x-ray and/or neutron scattering methodology which combines structural, textural, stress, microstructural, phase, layer, or other relevant variable or property analyses in a single approach. The author starts with basic theories related to diffraction by polycrystals and some of the most common combined analysis instrumental set-ups are detailed. Powder diffraction data treatment is introduced and in particular, the Rietveld analysis is discussed. The book also addresses automatic phase indexing—a necessary step to solve a structure ab initio. Since its effect prevails on real samples where textures are often stabilized, quantitative texture analysis is also detailed. Also discussed are microstructures of powder diffraction profiles; quantitative phase analysis from the Rietveld analysis; residual stress analysis for isotropic and anisotropic materials; specular x-ray reflectivity, and the various associated models. Finally, the book introduces the combined analysis concept, showing how it is superior to the view presented when we look at only one part of the analyses. This book shows that the existence of texture in a specimen can be envisaged as a way to decouple ordinarily strongly correlated parameters, as measured for instance in powder diagrams, and to examine and detail deeper material characterizations in a single methodology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NEW APPROACH TO CALCULUS THAT BETTER ENABLES STUDENTS TO PROGRESS TO MORE ADVANCED COURSES AND APPLICATIONS Calculus and Analysis: A Combined Approach bridges the gap between mathematical thinking skills and advanced calculus topics by providing an introduction to the key theory for understanding and working with applications in engineering and the sciences. Through a modern approach that utilizes fully calculated problems, the book addresses the importance of calculus and analysis in the applied sciences, with a focus on differential equations. Differing from the common classical approach to the topic, this book presents a modern perspective on calculus that follows motivations from Otto Toeplitz's famous genetic model. The result is an introduction that leads to great simplifications and provides a focused treatment commonly found in the applied sciences, particularly differential equations. The author begins with a short introduction to elementary mathematical logic. Next, the book explores the concept of sets and maps, providing readers with a strong foundation for understanding and solving modern mathematical problems. Ensuring a complete presentation, topics are uniformly presented in chapters that consist of three parts: Introductory Motivations presents historical mathematical problems or problems arising from applications that led to the development of mathematical solutions Theory provides rigorous development of the essential parts of the machinery of analysis; proofs are intentionally detailed, but simplified as much as possible to aid reader comprehension Examples and Problems promotes problem-solving skills through application-based exercises that emphasize theoretical mechanics, general relativity, and quantum mechanics Calculus and Analysis: A Combined Approach is an excellent book for courses on calculus and mathematical analysis at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels. It is also a valuable resource for engineers, physicists, mathematicians, and anyone working in the applied sciences who would like to master their understanding of basic tools in modern calculus and analysis.

Book A Combined Parametric and Nonparametric Approach to Time Series Analysis

Download or read book A Combined Parametric and Nonparametric Approach to Time Series Analysis written by Stefan Kriebol and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis and prediction of natural phenomena is an interesting and challenging task. Time series obtained from the observation of one or more features of a phenomenon are often the only access to the data generating system. Unfortunately, time series analysis is usually done by specialists in the field of the phenomenon with traditional analysis techniques. The application of modern analysis and prediction tools is often avoided due to their complexity or the risk of failure. This issue can be surmounted by an interdisciplinary approach. This work is an example for the possible synergetic effect of interdisciplinary research. In the field of oceanography the coastal upwelling phenomenon is analysed in experimental studies with a numerical model in order to develop a parametric prediction model. Artificial neural networks seem to be a suitable parametric model. However, in the field of computer science traditional artificial neural techniques showed limitations in the analysis and prediction of time series obtained from natural phenomena, particularly with nonlinear and nonstationary time series. Motivated by this limitations a new approach to time series analysis and prediction is presented in this work, the mixture of nonparametric segmented experts (MONSE). The MONSE approach is exploiting the synergetic effect of a combined nonparametric and parametric analysis. It is supposed to be applied to explorative time series analysis and prediction in various fields, i.e. in a context where hardly any kowledge about the time series of concern is available.

Book Failure Analysis of Shaft with Step and Key way Discontinuities under Combined Loading

Download or read book Failure Analysis of Shaft with Step and Key way Discontinuities under Combined Loading written by Ashish Kumar Singh and published by Ashish Kumar Singh. This book was released on 2018-05-30 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This E-book is a master's dissertation on ‘Failure Analysis of Shaft with Step and Keyway Discontinuities Under Combined Loading ' submitted in May, 2018. In all power transmission elements shaft is almost use in every machine or in every mechanical system. Shaft is a rotating machine element, commonly in circular cross-section, is used to transmit power and rotational motion to other parts such as gears, pulleys, flywheels sprockets and clutches. Various elements, which are used to transmit power from the driving device (motor or engine) are mounted on the shaft with the help of keys. Design of shaft is very important part in mechanical design. In real life, the shaft is subjected to combined loading. A shaft often fails due to the stress concentration in discontinuities areas resulting into large stress values. The most common discontinuities present in the shafts are grooves, slots, shoulders, fillets, holes, thread, etc. Due to presence of these geometrical discontinuities, the stresses are concentrated in discontinuities areas thereby reducing its strength. In the present work, an effort is made to calculate the equivalent stresses and maximum shear stresses developed in shaft due to step and presence of keyways (either single or multiple). These stresses are determined analytically and using finite element analysis (FEA) subjected to combined loading. The modelling of shaft with single keyway (rectangular, square, tapered, semi-circular) is carried out using CREO software and FEA is carried out in ANSYS. Further, the stresses are also determined for shaft with double keyways (rectangular, semi-circular) and stepped shaft with single and double rectangular keyways. Symmetrical and non-symmetrical orientations of double keyways in shaft, is also modelled and analysed. It is concluded that rectangular keyway in solid shaft is best among all the modelled and analyzed keyway in shaft as far as the concern of equivalent and shear stresses and in case of both rectangular and semi-circular keyways, double symmetrical keyways in solid shaft is more suitable than non-symmetrical keyways under combined loading conditions. It is also concluded that double symmetrical keyways in stepped shaft is more suitable than non-symmetrical keyway under combined loading conditions due to less generation of stresses.
