Eleven consecutive years of data are now available to assess progress towards the Millennium Development Goals targets for TB control. The TB incidence rate was stable or falling in five out of six WHO regions, with the number of cases rising in Africa where the TB epidemic is still driven by the spread of HIV. More than 80 per cent of all TB patients live in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
