The paper aims to provide some suggestions on the solutions to combat climate change impacts. The variability in climate has caused a lot of problems to both marine and fresh water aquatic ecosystems. These problems have spread to terrestrial ecosystems posing problems to fresh water aquaculture, forest ecosystems as well as agricultural ecosystems. Climate change has thus become a regional and global problem causing concerns over the preservation of these ecosystems for future generations. One of the results of climate change is global warming. It has been predicted that between 2010 and 2070 the world surface temperatures will increase by between 10 C to 2.70 C. This impact will affect the world economically, socially, environmentally and ecologically. This paper reviews works by experts as well as national and international organizations on impacts of climate change on aquaculture and fisheries in Zambia. It seeks to investigate the methods of mitigating and adapting to climate change which the Zambian government and stake holder organizations have put in place and may be able to put in place. Further the paper assesses the hindrances to adaptation and mitigation of climate change impacts in Zambia.

Women are more likely to take part in activities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as energy conservation and sustainable agriculture practices. They have important knowledge about the local environment and its potential for mitigating climate change which can help inform mitigation strategies but are often left out of the decision-making process when it comes to mitigation and adaptation strategies, which can lead to strategies that do not properly account for their interests or needs. Gender-specific adaptation strategies can help ensure that women are able to participate in the development of adaptation plans and fully benefit from them. In addition, research has shown that communities in which gender roles are more equitable often have better outcomes in terms of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Therefore, it is important to ensure that gender roles are taken into consideration when creating and implementing policies related to climate change.

This report brings together those two objectives and explores how they can more easily be achieved if considered together. It examines the potential impact of climate change and climate policies on poverty reduction. It also provides guidance on how to create a “win-win†? situation so that climate change policies contribute to poverty reduction and poverty-reduction policies contribute to climate change mitigation and resilience building. The key finding of the report is that climate change represents a significant obstacle to the sustained eradication of poverty, but future impacts on poverty are determined by policy choices: rapid, inclusive, and climate-informed development can prevent most short-term impacts whereas immediate pro-poor, emissions-reduction policies can drastically limit long-term ones.

Interactions between indigenous knowledge systems and climate change adaptation, and resulting feedbacks are dynamic, location and time-specific, occurring at different scales, and responding to different drivers. Climate change and its adaptation strategies must be addressed as dynamic, multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral and multi-dimensional. This book will be useful to academia, community development practitioners, government and non-governmental organizations, consultants and practitioners, and students in the field of rural sociology and sustainable development, and will add to the literature that is beginning to build around indigenous knowledge and sustainable development in Africa.
