Book Gin Cologne in the Wearable Tech Apocalypse

Download or read book Gin Cologne in the Wearable Tech Apocalypse written by RT Swindoll and published by RT Swindoll. This book was released on 2024-04-01 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outrageous and wickedly fun! If Douglas Adams and Jane Austen had a robot love child... Ronny Cologne IV will do anything to keep the trust fund. Attend “bored” meetings. Kiss a**. Even flush away twenty years Earth-time on Father’s interstellar cruise. But a drink on the spaceliner with Allison Gin, genius programmer, leaves a weight on his chest. She’s as much a Company slave as he is. Drinks lead to confessions, confessions to love—now Ronny’s gotta rescue them both from Father’s clutches...except the cutthroat billionaire has set a dastardly trap for Ronny on Earth. Allison’s no fool. Her pure untested AI just might save her career and the rest of humanity, too, assuming she can stop Ronny from screwing the future first. Author RT Swindoll presents Gin & Cologne: ...a big, binge-able comedy adventure in three acts ...a technological farce, driven by relatable characters (and their neuroses) ...a cheeky space opera, dripping with heart, and accessible to adult readers of all stripes Is serial entrepreneur Ronal Cologne a thinly veiled metaphor for another space tech billionaire? You decide. Meet Argyle the Barbot, an AI disaster-artist just self-aware enough to know when to drug you, pop a switchblade, or kick your nihilism about the future in the cajones. Flavor notes: hints of disaster capitalism, salty sardonic bite, silly romantic body, unabashed aftertaste of hope. Sip or toss down—sits well, either way. About RT Swindoll: Wonder for the Modern Mind. Anxious are the wonder-starved. So many wonders cross vast distances to touch our lives, only to fall unseen and unheard, and we moderns are restless in the absence. I write to pierce the veils that shroud our senses and reveal the wonder in our midst. Come settle into a story of cosmic significance.

Book Painting and Patronage in Cologne 1300 1500

Download or read book Painting and Patronage in Cologne 1300 1500 written by Brigitte Corley and published by Harvey Miller. This book was released on 2000 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cologne in the later Middle Ages was an elegant and wealthy mercantile city much favoured by popes and emperors. The largest town in Northern Europe, the site of an important university and seat of a major archbishopric, it had a cosmopolitan population of painters, illuminators, sculptors and goldsmiths and a patrician class who were sophisticated collectors and knowledgeable patrons of art. This book - the first such study in English - traces the development of the Cologne school of painting over two centuries. It begins with the period before 1400, when the adaption of French ideas to the indige- nous tradition produced an elegant, genteel art, characterized by elongated figures and graceful gestures. A change was heralded by the Veronica Master's introduction of the International Courtly Style around 1400, with its sophisticated iconography, costly pigments, exquisite punchwork, gesso jewels and precious brocade fabrics, and by the Dombild Master's introduction around 1440 of Eyckian proportions and realism. In the final phase of this development, the Master of the St Bartholomew Altarpiece opened the door to the Renaissance with his highly distinctive style and innovative iconography. The book is fully illustrated and accompanied by a translation of the guild regulations; a biographical index of archbishops and lay patrons; and a hand- list of cited panels grouped according to location.

Frankincense, an ancient incense ingredient, taps into our longing for transcendence, while ambergris embodies our unquenchable curiosity. And exquisite jasmine exemplifies our yearning for beauty, both evanescent and enduring. In addition to providing a riveting initiation into the history, natural history, and philosophy of scent, Fragrant imparts the essentials of scent literacy and includes recipes for easy-to-make fragrances and edible, drinkable, and useful concoctions that reveal the imaginative possibilities of creating with—and reveling in—aroma. Book Stem Cells and Progenitor Cells in Ischemic Stroke Fashion or Future

Download or read book Stem Cells and Progenitor Cells in Ischemic Stroke Fashion or Future written by Thorsten R. Doeppner and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stroke remains one of the most devastating diseases in industrialized countries. Recanalization of the occluded arterial vessel using thrombolysis is the only causal therapy available. However, thrombolysis is limited due to severe side effects and a limited time window. As such, only a minority of patients receives this kind of therapy, showing a need for new and innovative treatment strategies. Although neuroprotective drugs have been shown to be beneficial in a variety of experimental stroke models, they ultimately failed in clinical trials. Consequently, recent scientific focus has been put on modulation of post-ischemic neuroregeneration, either via stimulation of endogenous neurogenesis or via application of exogenous stem cells or progenitor cells. Neurogenesis persists within the adult brain of both rodents and primates. As such, neural progenitor cells (NPCs) are found within distinct niches like the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus. Cerebral ischemia stimulates these astrocyte-like progenitor cells, upon which NPCs proliferate and migrate towards the site of lesion. There, NPCs partly differentiate into mature neurons, without significantly being integrated into the residing neural network. Rather, the majority of new-born cells dies within the first weeks post-stroke, leaving post-ischemic neurogenesis a phenomenon of unknown biological significance. Since NPCs do not replace lost brain tissue, beneficial effects observed in some studies after either stimulated or protected neurogenesis are generally contributed to indirect effects of these new-born cells. The precise identification of appropriated cellular mediators, however, is still elusive. How do these mediators work? Are they soluble factors or maybe even vesicular structures emanating from NPCs? What are the cues that guide NPCs towards the ischemic lesion site? How can post-ischemic neurogenesis be stimulated? How can the poor survival of NPCs be increased? In order to support post-ischemic neurogenesis, a variety of research groups have focused on application of exogenous stem/progenitor cells from various tissue sources. Among these, cultivated NPCs from the SVZ and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from the bone marrow are frequently administered after induction of stroke. Although neuroprotection after delivery of stem/progenitor cells has been shown in various experimental stroke models, transplanted cells are usually not integrated in the neural network. Again, the vast amount of grafted cells dies or does not reach its target despite profound neuroprotection, also suggesting indirect paracrine effects as the cause of neuroprotection. Yet, the factors being responsible for these observations are under debate and still have to be addressed. Is there any “optimal” cell type for transplantation? How can the resistance of grafted cells against a non-favorable extracellular milieu be increased? What are the molecules that are vital for interaction between grafted cells and endogenous NPCs? The present research topic seeks to answer - at least in part - some of the aforementioned questions. Although the research topic predominantly focuses on experimental studies (and reviews alike), a current outlook towards clinical relevance is given as well.
