Book Mussolini s National Project in Argentina

Download or read book Mussolini s National Project in Argentina written by David Aliano and published by Fairleigh Dickinson. This book was released on 2012-08-31 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1920s and 1930s, Mussolini’s fascist regime attempted to promote fascist Italy’s national project in Argentina, bombarding the republic with its propaganda. Although politically a failure, this propaganda provoked a debate over the idea of a national identity outside of the nation-state and the potential roles that citizens living abroad could play in their country of origin. In propagating an Italian national identity within another sovereign state, Mussolini’s initiative also inspired heated debate among native Argentines over their own national project as a nation of immigrants. Using the experiences of Mussolini’s efforts in Argentina as its case study, this book demonstrates how national projects take on different meanings once they enter a contested public space. It details how both members of the Italian community as well as native Argentines reshaped Italy’s national discourse from abroad by entangling it with Argentina’s own national project. In exploring the way in which nations are imagined, constructed, and recast both from above as well as from below, Mussolini’s National Project in Argentina offers new perspectives on the politics of identity formation while providing a transatlantic example of the dynamic interplay between the Italian state and its emigrant communities. It is in short, a transnational perspective on what it means to belong to a nation.

Book Engaging and Transforming Global Communication through Cultural Discourse Analysis

Download or read book Engaging and Transforming Global Communication through Cultural Discourse Analysis written by Michelle Scollo and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global communication can be difficult in the best of circumstances. The contributors in this book take seriously the premise that one can examine communication within specific global settings and scenes with the goal of ensuring that the meanings made among those within specific communities is more clearly understood. This includes recognizing that we often communicate based on specific assumptions and act in ways that have normative bases that are shared with those within communities, but are often difficult to discern or navigate by those who are not members of them. Situated within the Ethnography of Communication research program, the contributors in this volume use Cultural Discourse Analysis to examine such practices, a theory and methodology developed by Donal Carbaugh over the past thirty years. The book is a celebration of his work and career, in which forty-four prominent Communication scholars and practitioners come together to use this framework to examine pressing communication issues across the globe. The book includes a preface by Gerry Philipsen that is an academic history of Carbaugh’s career, an introduction outlining the history and current practice of Cultural Discourse Analysis, sixteen data based chapters using the framework to examine a broad range of inter/cultural communication practices across the globe, and an epilogue by Carbaugh reviewing this research and its future trajectory. The book is a handbook of Cultural Discourse Analysis for examining the latest in Cultural Discourse Analysis research and learning how to do such work that will be useful to advanced undergraduate and graduate students in a broad range of fields, inter/cultural communication scholars, and all those who seek to better understand and communicate in the global world today.

Book Psychology of Sex and Gender

Download or read book Psychology of Sex and Gender written by Susan Burns and published by Macmillan Higher Education. This book was released on 2018-12-06 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychology of Sex and Gender is an engaging and empirical text that not only introduces students to foundational (i.e., historical/contextual) understandings in the topic of sex and gender, but also moves them into cutting-edge topics and research that encourages them to (re)think their perceptions of the gendered world around them. It goes beyond the "standard coverage", presenting topics with recognition of the biopsychosocial nature of sex and gender and encouraging students to examine the basis of similarities and differences within and between the sexes. Many textbooks in this domain focus more on women's studies or psychology of women without much coverage of men's issues. Burns provides a comprehensive and balanced sex/gender perspective integrating contemporary research. In addition, this text provides an integration of current and relevant (mis)representations of issues related to sex and gender as a means for furthering students' awareness of the gendered world in which they live.
