Trans-Cultural Articulations of the Postmemory of WWII presents an international and interdisciplinary approach to the comprehension of the postmemory of WWII, accounting for a number of different intellectual trajectories that investigate WWII and the Holocaust as paradigms for other traumas within a global and multidirectional context. Indeed, by exceeding the geographical boundaries of nations and states and overcoming contextual specificities, postmemory foregrounds continuous, active, connective, transcultural, and always imperfect representations of violence that engage with the alterity of other histories and other subjects. 75 years after the end of WWII, this volume is primarily concerned with the convergence between postmemory and underexamined aspects of the history and aftermath of WWII, as well as with several sociopolitical anxieties and representational preoccupations. Drawing from different disciplines, the critical and visual works gathered in this volume interrogate the referential power of postmemory, considering its transcultural interplay with various forms, media, frames of reference, conceptual registers, and narrative structures.

While the courts processed paperwork, he and his wife spent two months in the capital city waiting to take their new baby home. "The baby's birth mother gave the new parents a book filled with letters, pictures and poems. I hope that the hardness of the world will not hurt your sensitivity," she wrote, "When I think about you I hope that your life is full of beautiful things." With these words as a mission statement, Soth began making his own book for his daughter. Beauty makes itself known through ramshackle architecture, the companionship of animals, and the perseverance of the human spirit. Alec Soth, born in 1969, is a photographer born and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is the recipient of several major fellowships from the McKnight and Jerome Foundations and was awarded the 2003 Santa Fe Prize for Photography. His work is represented in major public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Soth's photographs have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the 2004 Whitney and S�o Paulo Biennials. At the end of the individual stories there are turning points at which the reader him/herself can determine the future of the two main figures, Romeo and Juliet. Each of these episodes forms a potential point in a universal love story. Corresponding to the external events, the descriptions of the inner development of the protagonists seek to capture the various stages of this major emotion in the shape of concise psychograms of the lovers. The result is a 'compendium' of the many manifestations of love, with the most beautiful and the ugliest, the most sincere and the lowest, the most animalistic and the most tender of emotions. Travel itself becomes a key metaphor for the concept of love in this book. Being mindful and paying attention to one's partner, the environment and oneself are the takeaways subtly offered to the reader at different points. "Each was there for the other because they both lived in balance," is the key phrase describing a successful and authentic romantic relationship.
