Book Learning from Our Buildings

Download or read book Learning from Our Buildings written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-03-01 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1986, the FFC requested that the NRC appoint a committee to examine the field and propose ways by which the POE process could be improved to better serve public and private sector organizations. The resulting report, Post-Occupancy Evaluation Practices in the Building Process: Opportunities for Improvement, proposed a broader view of POEs-from being simply the end phase of a building project to being an integral part of the entire building process. The authoring committee recommended a series of actions related to policy, procedures, and innovative technologies and techniques to achieve that broader view. In 2000, the FFC funded a second study to look at the state of the practice of POEs and lessons-learned programs among federal agencies and in private, public, and academic organizations both here and abroad. The sponsor agencies specifically wanted to determine whether and how information gathered during POE processes could be used to help inform decisions made in the programming, budgeting, design, construction, and operation phases of facility acquisition in a useful and timely way. To complete this study, the FFC commissioned a set of papers by recognized experts in this field, conducted a survey of selected federal agencies with POE programs, and held a forum at the National Academy of Sciences on March 13, 2001, to address these issues. This report is the result of those efforts.

Book Building a Data Integration Team

Download or read book Building a Data Integration Team written by Jarrett Goldfedder and published by Apress. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find the right people with the right skills. This book clarifies best practices for creating high-functioning data integration teams, enabling you to understand the skills and requirements, documents, and solutions for planning, designing, and monitoring both one-time migration and daily integration systems. The growth of data is exploding. With multiple sources of information constantly arriving across enterprise systems, combining these systems into a single, cohesive, and documentable unit has become more important than ever. But the approach toward integration is much different than in other software disciplines, requiring the ability to code, collaborate, and disentangle complex business rules into a scalable model. Data migrations and integrations can be complicated. In many cases, project teams save the actual migration for the last weekend of the project, and any issues can lead to missed deadlines or, at worst, corrupted data that needs to be reconciled post-deployment. This book details how to plan strategically to avoid these last-minute risks as well as how to build the right solutions for future integration projects. What You Will Learn Understand the “language” of integrations and how they relate in terms of priority and ownershipCreate valuable documents that lead your team from discovery to deploymentResearch the most important integration tools in the market todayMonitor your error logs and see how the output increases the cycle of continuous improvementMarket across the enterprise to provide valuable integration solutions Who This Book Is For The executive and integration team leaders who are building the corresponding practice. It is also for integration architects, developers, and business analysts who need additional familiarity with ETL tools, integration processes, and associated project deliverables.

Download or read book Architect s Legal Handbook written by Anthony Speaight and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architect's Legal Handbook: The Law for Architects, Fifth Edition is a collection of papers including those on International Work by Architects, on European community Law affecting Architects, and the Architects' Professional Indemnity Insurance. This collection is a comprehensive guideline to laws in England, Scotland, and the European community. This handbook seeks to make architects more aware of where possible legal pitfalls may lurk. Coverage is updated to include changes in English Law, Scottish Law, English Law of Contract, the Law of Tort, Architect's Appointment and Collateral Warranties, Architects' Liability, English and Scottish Land Laws, and the Standard Building Contracts in England. The origins and sources of the laws and the basic principles are explained, which guide the reader into how these are applied in the architects' relations with their clients and clients; contractors. A wider discussion is given on the topic of collateral warranties, incorporation options, and legal organizations such as partnerships and limited companies. Upon the formation of the European Community, institutions and treatises have arisen, so a review of technical harmonization and standards, right of establishment and freedom to provide services, product liability, and consumer protection is provided in order. The international workplace for British architects is also discussed, covering most countries in Europe. This collection of papers will prove useful for architects and engineers, especially those who want to put up their own architectural firms. The book can be likewise an informative source for architectural students, lawyers, and professors in business and commercial law.
