Download or read book Coastal Water Clarity Modeling Feasibility Study written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of the ONR Coastal Water Clarity Program was to assess the feasibility of developing an integrated computer model for predicting diurnal and episodic changes in near coastal water optical properties. The approach was to build a detailed coastal environmental computer simulation, based on local meteorological, hydrological, and oceanographic observables, to predict spatial and temporal variations of optically significant constituents in the coastal water column. Because comprehensive space time data for the nearshore regime is not available, the level of feasibility was limited to demonstration of a working predictive visibility model (PVM), producing reasonable optical and interim environmental parameter variations over extended periods of time (multiple days).

Book excerpt: This volume to discussing the various aspects of estuarine water quality modeling. Topics considered include fundamental principles, estuarine mass transport, BOD/DO and eutrophication model kinetics, kinetics on toxicants, and sediment-water interactions. The book also discusses mixing zone modeling and how to integrate estuarine hydrodynamic and water quality models. Many case studies demonstrating successful model applications are discussed.

Download or read book Hydrodynamics and Water Quality written by Zhen-Gang Ji and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary reference for the modeling of hydrodynamics and water quality in rivers, lake, estuaries, coastal waters, and wetlands This comprehensive text perfectly illustrates the principles, basic processes, mathematical descriptions, case studies, and practical applications associated with surface waters. It focuses on solving practical problems in rivers, lakes, estuaries, coastal waters, and wetlands. Most of the theories and technical approaches presented within have been implemented in mathematical models and applied to solve practical problems. Throughout the book, case studies are presented to demonstrate how the basic theories and technical approaches are implemented into models, and how these models are applied to solve practical environmental/water resources problems. This new edition of Hydrodynamics and Water Quality: Modeling Rivers, Lakes, and Estuaries has been updated with more than 40% new information. It features several new chapters, including one devoted to shallow water processes in wetlands as well as another focused on extreme value theory and environmental risk analysis. It is also supplemented with a new website that provides files needed for sample applications, such as source codes, executable codes, input files, output files, model manuals, reports, technical notes, and utility programs. This new edition of the book: Includes more than 120 new/updated figures and 450 references Covers state-of-the-art hydrodynamics, sediment transport, toxics fate and transport, and water quality in surface waters Provides essential and updated information on mathematical models Focuses on how to solve practical problems in surface waters—presenting basic theories and technical approaches so that mathematical models can be understood and applied to simulate processes in surface waters Hailed as “a great addition to any university library” by the Journal of the American Water Resources Association (July 2009), Hydrodynamics and Water Quality, Second Edition is an essential reference for practicing engineers, scientists, and water resource managers worldwide.

Download or read book Responding to Climate Change written by Paul Burton and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2014-11-05 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South East Queensland has been one of the fastest growing regions of Australia, both in terms of its rapidly growing population and an ever-expanding built environment. It is also one of the most vulnerable regions likely to suffer from the adverse impacts of climate change, especially increased flooding, storms, coastal erosion and drought. Responding to Climate Change: Lessons from an Australian Hotspot brings together the results of cutting-edge research from members of the Griffith Climate Change Response Program, showing how best to respond to anticipated changes and how to overcome barriers to adaptation. The authors treat climate change adaptation as a cross-cutting, multi-level governance policy challenge extending across human settlements, infrastructure, ecosystems, water management, primary industries, emergency management and human health. The research focuses on, but is not limited to, the experience of climate change adaptation in the recognised climate hotspot of South East Queensland. The results of this research will be of interest to planners, policy makers and other practitioners engaged in urban and environmental planning, coastal management, public health, emergency management, and physical infrastructure at the local, regional and metropolitan government scales.
