Book excerpt: "Written for a different age than our own but wrestling with perennial issues clergy and seminarians face, Bishop Walter Klein's Clothed with Salvation: A Book of Counsel for Seminarians is a welcome contribution to providing this much-needed training. Klein was the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana from 1963 to 1971. Perhaps more pertinent to his qualifications to write Clothed with Salvation, first published in 1953, was his experience in seminaries and divinity schools, first as a student and then as a professor. He served as a lecturer at the Philadelphia Divinity School and, in 1938, became chairman of the graduate department of the Philadelphia Divinity School. Klein was also a professor of Old Testament Literature and Languages at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary and served as the seminary's assistant dean between 1952 and 1959. In 1959, he was elected Dean of Nashotah House, where he served until his death in 1963."-From the Foreword

Book The Doctrines of Grace

    Book Details:
  • Author : James Montgomery Boice
  • Publisher : Crossway
  • Release : 2009-04-01
  • ISBN : 1433517353
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book The Doctrines of Grace written by James Montgomery Boice and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2009-04-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no question that we live in an age of weak theology and casual Christianity. We have substituted intuition for truth, feeling for belief and immediate gratification for enduring hope. Evangelicalism desperately needs to return to the doctrines that once before reformed the world: radical depravity, unconditional election, particular redemption, efficacious grace and persevering grace. James Boice and Philip Ryken not only provide a compelling exposition on these doctrines of grace, but also look briefly at their historical impact. The authors leave no doubt that the church suffers when these foundational truths are neglected and that she must return to a Christianity that is practical-minded, kind-hearted, and most importantly, biblically based.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believers know that when we die we enter heaven and will spend eternity there with God and the saints who have gone before us. But what actually happens in heaven? What are we going to be doing there? Won't it get boring at some point? According to Scripture, a large part of our experience of heaven will be a continual revealing of God's glory. Not just his glory in the moment, but during all of time. The mysteries of providence, the hidden movements of God throughout history, and the forgotten and unnoted works of even the most obscure of God's people will be unveiled so that we can see how wise, loving, gracious, and powerful our God is. And though we will experience perfection in heaven, we will never be omniscient, which means we will always be learning more about God's glory, inspiring us to return joyful praise and thanksgiving. If your vision of heaven has been limited to clouds and harps and angels, it's time to expand that view with the truth found in this biblically based look at the afterlife.

Book The Cross and Salvation Hardcover

Download or read book The Cross and Salvation Hardcover written by Bruce Demarest and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With America's confidence in the Bible at an all-time low and the strength of her spiritual convictions waning, it is essential for Christians—especially Christian leaders—to be well-grounded in biblical theology. To have a clear and comprehensive understanding of the key doctrines of evangelicalism. In response, professor and award-winning author Bruce Demarest has made plain God's glorious plan of salvation, his provision for the human dilemma through Christ's work on the cross, and the application of saving grace to unbelievers. Demarest's unique approach defines each topic, identifies its most pressing issues, examines the ways in which the doctrine has been understood historically, and interprets the Bible's revelation. The result is a clear and carefully constructed doctrinal statement that you can defend, live out, and communicate to others. This singular, comprehensive treatment of one of Christianity's essential doctrines gives definitive, Bible-based answers about salvation and the cross— and about related theological issues such as grace and regeneration. It's perfect for clarifying your theology and gaining deep understanding of this foundational theme. Part of the Foundations of Evangelical Theology series.

Book Against Jovinianus

    Book Details:
  • Author : St. Jerome
  • Publisher : Dalcassian Publishing Company
  • Release : 2019-12-07
  • ISBN : 1987022882
  • Pages : 97 pages

Download or read book Against Jovinianus written by St. Jerome and published by Dalcassian Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019-12-07 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jovinianus, about whom little more is known than what is to be found in Jerome's treatise, published a Latin treatise outlining several opinions: That a virgin is no better, as such, than a wife in the sight of God. Abstinence from food is no better than a thankful partaking of food. A person baptized with the Spirit as well as with water cannot sin. All sins are equal. There is but one grade of punishment and one of reward in the future state. In addition to this, he held the birth of Jesus Christ to have been by a "true parturition," and was thus refuting the orthodoxy of the time, according to which, the infant Jesus passed through the walls of the womb as his Resurrection body afterwards did, out of the tomb or through closed doors.

Book Exodus ESV Edition

Download or read book Exodus ESV Edition written by Philip Graham Ryken and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2016-02-26 with total page 1042 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this expository commentary on the book of Exodus, Philip Graham Ryken mines the story of Israel’s escape from Egypt for knowledge of God’s character and instruction for his followers. Theologically instructive and decidedly pastoral, this commentary leads readers to rejoice at God’s work in the life of every person who follows him on the path to spiritual freedom. Ryken skillfully relates how the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery anticipated the salvation accomplished in Jesus Christ, proving that God remembers his covenant and always delivers on his promises. For those who preach, teach, and study God’s Word, this book is more than just a commentary; it is a celebration of God’s faithfulness. The book of Daniel abounds with powerful imagery showcasing God’s unmatched glory and wise plan for the future. In this accessible commentary, pastor Rodney Stortz highlights the coming triumph of God's kingdom, offering pastors and Bible teachers a resource to help them explain and apply Daniel’s message to Christians today. Stortz’s careful exegesis and perceptive applications focus on personal holiness, the wisdom and power of God, and the importance of Daniel’s prophecies concerning the Messiah and the Antichrist. In addition, this commentary looks to the New Testament to shed light on Daniel’s prophecies about the future. Part of the Preaching the Word series.
