Book Literary Currents and Romantic Forms

Download or read book Literary Currents and Romantic Forms written by Stephen M. Trzaskoma and published by Barkhuis. This book was released on 2019-04-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bryan Reardon (1928-2009) was one of the most important and influential figures in the revival of scholarly interest in the Greek novel and ancient fiction in the last quarter of the twentieth century. His organisation of the first International Conference on the Ancient Novel (ICAN) at Bangor, North Wales, in 1976 was a landmark in the field and an inspiration to the organisers of subsequent ICANs, from which Ancient Narrative itself sprang. As editor of Collected Ancient Greek Novels (University of California Press 1989; second edition 2008), he made the Greek novels accessible to a wider readership and won a place for them in university syllabuses across the English-speaking world. This volume contains twenty essays by leading scholars of ancient fiction, who were all pupils, colleagues or close friends of Bryan Reardon, in memory of his scholarship, energy, guidance and humanity. They cover a range of topics including ancient literary theory and the conceptualisation of fiction, discussion of individual novels (Chariton, Longus, Iamblichus, Achilles Tatius, and Apuleius) and novelistic texts (a papyrus fragment of a lost novel, and Philostratus' Life of Apollonius), the afterlife of the ancient novel (in a Renaissance commentary on Roman law, in a seventeenth-century essay on the origin of the novel, and in a seventeenth-century series of paintings in a French château), and a speculative reconstruction of the morning after the end of Heliodorus' novel. The title of the volume commemorates two of Bryan Reardon's most important books: Courants littéraires grecs des IIe et IIIe siècles après J.-C. (Paris 1971) and The Form of Greek Romance (Princeton 1991); and the photograph of Aphrodisias on the front cover is a tribute to his critical edition of Chariton (2004).

Book Adaptive Control

Download or read book Adaptive Control written by Rogelio Lozano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive Control provides techniques for automatic, real-time adjustments in controller parameters with a view to achieving and/or maintaining a desirable level of system performance in the presence of unknown or variable process parameters. Many aspects of the field are dealt with in coherent and orderly fashion, starting with the problems posed by system uncertainties and moving on to the presentation of solutions and their practical significance. Within the general context of recent developments, the book looks at: • synthesis and analysis of parameter adaptation algorithms; • recursive plant-model identification in open and closed loop; • robust digital control for adaptive control; • direct and indirect adaptive control; and • practical aspects and applications. To reflect the importance of digital computers for the application of adaptive control techniques, discrete-time aspects are emphasized. To guide the reader, the book contains various applications of adaptive control techniques.

Book Stochastically Forced Compressible Fluid Flows

Download or read book Stochastically Forced Compressible Fluid Flows written by Dominic Breit and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-01-22 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a first systematic study of compressible fluid flows subject to stochastic forcing. The bulk is the existence of dissipative martingale solutions to the stochastic compressible Navier-Stokes equations. These solutions are weak in the probabilistic sense as well as in the analytical sense. Moreover, the evolution of the energy can be controlled in terms of the initial energy. We analyze the behavior of solutions in short-time (where unique smooth solutions exists) as well as in the long term (existence of stationary solutions). Finally, we investigate the asymptotics with respect to several parameters of the model based on the energy inequality. ContentsPart I: Preliminary results Elements of functional analysis Elements of stochastic analysis Part II: Existence theory Modeling fluid motion subject to random effects Global existence Local well-posedness Relative energy inequality and weak–strong uniqueness Part III: Applications Stationary solutions Singular limits

Book Process Control Design for Industrial Applications

Download or read book Process Control Design for Industrial Applications written by Dumitru Popescu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-04-12 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most important methods used for the design of digital controls implemented in industrial applications. The best modelling and identification techniques for dynamical systems are presented as well as the algorithms for the implementation of the modern solutions of process control. The proposed described methods are illustrated by various case studies for the main industrial sectors There exist a number of books related each one to a single type of control, yet usually without comparisons for various industrial sectors. Some other books present modelling and identification methods or signal processing. This book presents the methods to solve all the problems linked to the design of a process control without the need to find additional information.
