It reveals the contradictions, achievements, reversals and triumphs of a complex and fascinating president and his administration.

Book The Economic Pivot in a Political Context

Download or read book The Economic Pivot in a Political Context written by Charles Wolf and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Economic Pivot in a Political Context, by Charles Wolf, Jr., explains how iron curtains have been replaced by porous ones in the post-cold war era. New countries, multilateral organizations, regional and subregional groups, multinational corporations, international business alliances, and financial networks have made the global arena ever more complex. As seen in the cases of Haiti, Iraq, and Chechnya, rapid change and a less predictable atmosphere generate an ever-present threat of volatility. Openness to global, continuous flows of information, trade, capital, technology, and people continues to blur our borders. Simultaneously, a postmodern preoccupation with domestic, social, political, and economic affairs is taking shape

This book examines whether the Clinton experience does illustrate the value of the New Democrat and Third Way agenda.

Book The Clinton Economic Boom

Download or read book The Clinton Economic Boom written by B. A. Marbue Brown and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bill Clinton often gets credit for being the architect of the longest economic expansion in U.S. history and for being the catalyst for 22+ million jobs that were created during his tenure. Based on this reputation, the conventional wisdom is that the U.S. can regain the prosperity of the Clinton era by electing a president with similar political values, who will advance similar policies. B. A. Marbue Brown challenges the conventional wisdom by presenting a fact-based analysis, which shows that five factors combined to create an economic perfect storm during the Clinton years, and that the President had little if any influence over those factors. He also shows that several popular beliefs about the administration's economic record are founded on myths. Then leveraging lessons learned from his analysis, he adds prescriptions that policymakers can use to drive economic growth in more typical circumstances. Almost 300 citations back up his conclusions. B. A. Marbue Brown is a veteran of the Information Technology (IT) industry with more than 20 years experience. Over the course of his career, he has held senior positions with IT industry leaders Microsoft Corporation, Cisco Systems and Telcordia Technologies. Mr. Brown is an accomplished market research expert, whose work has been published in The Handbook of Business Strategy and Marketing Research Magazine. He has consulted extensively in the Communications industry, particularly with Fortune 100 telecommunications companies. He specializes in analyzing IT market and technology trends to formulate competitive business strategies. He is also highly regarded for helping companies improve business performance through advanced customer research analytics.

Download or read book Finding Salvation in Christ written by Christopher D. Denny and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-05-01 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding Salvation in Christ brings together some of the most important figures in contemporary theology to honor the work of William Loewe, systematic theologian and specialist in the theology of Bernard Lonergan, SJ. For over three decades Loewe's writings have sought to make classic christological and soteriological doctrines comprehensible to a Catholic Church that is working to integrate individual subjectivity, communal living, and historical consciousness in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. Essays included in this volume assess Loewe's reinterpretation of patristic and medieval Christology from Irenaeus to Anselm of Canterbury, and explain the significance of the theology of Lonergan and Loewe for the fields of soteriology, economics, family life, and interreligious theology. While some recent postliberal theologies have polarized the church's relationship with contemporary culture by minimizing similarities between Christianity and other worldviews, the contributors in this volume continue Lonergan's project of integrating the findings of various intellectual disciplines with Christian theology, and use Loewe's historical and systematic work as a guide in that endeavor. While Lonergan's "transcendental Thomism" has been criticized by both traditionalists and revisionists, essays in this collection apply Loewe's theological methodology in a variety of ways to demonstrate that time-honored doctrines about Christ can be transplanted into new cultural contexts and gain intelligibility and credibility in this process. Having lived and labored through the far-reaching changes in Catholic thought introduced in recent decades, Loewe's career provides a model for theologians attempting to build bridges between the past and the present, and between the church and the world.

Book The Perfect Revolution

Download or read book The Perfect Revolution written by The Very Revd. Stuart W. Lambert and published by LULU. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Perfect Revolution, author Stuart W. Lambert examines, from an ethical perspective, what has been previously understood as human development and addresses the corruption of the moral good in that realm. Building on Lambert's master's thesis, this study demonstrates how the prevailing immoral human development policies and practices-under the sway of globally entrenched Friedmanite/Reaganite Revolutionary Capitalist philosophy-exponentially multiplies structural inequality and represents a choice for death. Lambert outlines the next generation UNDP-MDG program predicated on needs-based rights and points the way forward to the flowering of human development flowing from adopting an ethically centered approach, together with a broader social justice methodology. The Perfect Revolution communicates that the worlds of theology, philosophy, and academia must always be in the service of practical, moral living.

Book Transitional Morphology

Download or read book Transitional Morphology written by Elisa Mattiello and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-12-08 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combining Forms (CFs) are a major morphological phenomenon in Modern English, yet while they have been discussed in some morphological literature, no full-length study has been devoted to this topic so far. This pioneering book addresses that gap by providing a framework in which CFs are marked as distinct from their neighbouring categories such as abbreviations and blending. It splits CFs into four distinct categories – neoclassical (e.g. bio-therapy, zoo-logy), abbreviated (e.g. e-reader, econo-politics), secreted (e.g. oil-gate, computer-holic) and splinters (e.g. docu- from documentary in docudrama). It shows that the notion of CF spans a wide spectrum of processes, from regular composition to abbreviation, from blending to analogy, and schema. Modern and emerging English CFs are analysed by adopting a corpus-based approach, and measuring their realised, expanding, and potential productivity. Comprehensive yet accessible, it is essential reading for researchers and advanced students of morphology, English historical linguistics, corpus linguistics, and lexicography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly four centuries, Americans have debated the government's proper role in developing the economy. Some argue that the economy develops the best when government intervenes the least. Others counter that the economy best develops when government and business work together to that end. A Short History of American Industrial Policies analyzes the ideological, political, and industrial policy struggle from the colonial era to the 1990s. To give a complete understanding, both the chronology and process of America's industrial policymaking and policies are explored in depth throughout.

Book Sweden and the Third Way

Download or read book Sweden and the Third Way written by Philip Whyman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003. The creation of a 'Third Way' between unfettered capitalism and old-style Keynesian-corporatist forms of social democracy has become the driving force behind the policy programmes of many left-of-centre political parties in the industrialised nations of the world today. Sweden and the 'Third Way' critically evaluates this 'new' social democracy by examining the profound shift in Swedish political economy from being the prototype old-style social democracy towards the 'Third Way' synthesis of neo-liberalism and elements of traditional social democracy. Philip Whyman evaluates internal and external challenges to Swedish macroeconomic policy - including globalisation, European integration, post-Fordist technological change and the relative empowerment of capital - to discover the extent to which national economic autonomy is constrained. Furthermore, he considers the plausibility of revising the core elements of the traditional 'Swedish Model' as an alternative to the prevailing macroeconomic platform.

Download or read book America s Unholy Ghosts written by Joel Edward Goza and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-03-22 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's Unholy Ghosts examines the DNA of the ideologies that shape our nation, ideologies that are as American as apple pie but that too often justify and perpetuate racist ideas and racial inequalities. MLK challenged us to investigate the "ideational roots of race hate" and Ghosts does just that by examining a philosophical "trinity"--Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Adam Smith--whose works collectively helped to institutionalize, imagine, and ingrain racist ideologies into the hearts and minds of the American people. As time passed, America's racial imagination evolved to form people incapable of recognizing their addiction to racist ideas. Thus, Ghosts comes to a close with the brilliant faith and politics of Martin Luther King, Jr. who sought to write the conscience of the Prophetic Black Church onto American hearts, minds, and laws. If our nation's racist instincts still haunt our land, so too do our hopes and desires for a faith and politics marked by mercy, justice, and equity--and there is no better guide to that land than the Prophetic Black Church and the one who saw such a land from the mountaintop.
