Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the latest evidence-based guidelines for perinatal management and is designed to help obstetricians and neonatologists minimize complications and offer patients the best possible care. Since 1960, there has been a significant increase in basic and clinical investigations on normal and pathological pregnancy in the developed world. This has provided insights into the physiopathology of pregnant women, fetuses and newborns and led to the development of new technologies, bringing about a new medical subspecialty: perinatal medicine. The book is divided into eight main sections: The first examines basic periconceptional care and discusses the ethical aspects of perinatology. The next section focuses on prenatal considerations, such as the nutritional aspects of gestation and puerperium, physical exercise during pregnancy, routine laboratory tests, prenatal care of multiple gestations and the role of the neonatologist in prenatal care. The third and fourth sections then explore fetal evaluation, and clinical intercurrences in pregnancy, respectively. The next section addresses pregnancy complications: prevention, diagnosis and management. The sixth section covers the basic aspects of congenital infections and the seventh examines labor and delivery aspects. Lastly, the final section includes chapters on neonatal assistance. Written by leading experts in obstetrics, neonatology, and perinatology, this thoroughly updated, comprehensive resource reflects the latest information in all areas, including genetics and imaging.

Book Innovative Technologies and Signal Processing in Perinatal Medicine

Download or read book Innovative Technologies and Signal Processing in Perinatal Medicine written by Danilo Pani and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pregnancy is a critical time for the health of the mother and the fetus, with important potential risks for both. Tools for antenatal diagnosis and pregnancy monitoring can support prevention and management of potential risks and complications. In particular, the perinatal period, spanning from the third trimester of pregnancy up to one month after birth, is the most critical for the baby. For this reason, in the last decades, biomedical engineering supported and fostered the scientific research towards the identification of new models, parameters, algorithms, and tools that can improve the quality of fetal monitoring, predict the outcomes and allow physicians to intervene in an appropriate manner to ensure a healthy future for the baby. This book follows the First International Summer School on Technologies and Signal Processing in Perinatal Medicine and reflects some of its most important master lectures. It represents a valuable guide for students and young researchers approaching this topic for the first time, as well as experienced researchers and practitioners looking for a clear representation of the themes and techniques presented by recognized experts in the field. Presents current and innovative technologies for fetal and neonatal monitoring Emphasis on both technology/signal processing and clinical aspects Offers a clear didactic approach to the subject matter

Download or read book Perinatal Medicine written by J. Clinch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perinatal Medicine is a relatively new specialty, sited between the mechanistic approach of traditional obstetrics and the anticipatory and preventative out look expressed in the study of fetal growth which extends into monitoring neo natal progress and development. It is of primary importance that obstetricians and neonatologists should think alike and should not allow their interests to develop along separate lines. Frequent clinical consultations with neonat ologists cooperating in prenatal care and obstetricians visiting the special nur sery on a regular basis are essential if every fetus is to reach its full potential. Such aims have been advanced by previous European Congresses and it was our privilege in Dublin to host the IXth Congress held at the Royal Dublin Society from September 3rd to 5th 1984. Over nine hundred delegates rep resenting thirty-nine countries attended the scientific and social programme. The theme of the congress was the mature baby. The organizers felt that while major advances had been made in the management of prematurity there were still far too many mature fetuses dying and too many deaths in the nor mally formed appropriate weight for gestational age neonate. Hence antenatal fetal assessment, the management of labour including electronic monitoring in normal women and asphyxial brain damage were major topics. Pregnancy hy pertension, caesarean section, breech presentation, diabetes and unexplained mature stillbirth were workshop topics.

This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The delivery of high quality and equitable care for both mothers and newborns is complex and requires efforts across many sectors. The United States spends more on childbirth than any other country in the world, yet outcomes are worse than other high-resource countries, and even worse for Black and Native American women. There are a variety of factors that influence childbirth, including social determinants such as income, educational levels, access to care, financing, transportation, structural racism and geographic variability in birth settings. It is important to reevaluate the United States' approach to maternal and newborn care through the lens of these factors across multiple disciplines. Birth Settings in America: Outcomes, Quality, Access, and Choice reviews and evaluates maternal and newborn care in the United States, the epidemiology of social and clinical risks in pregnancy and childbirth, birth settings research, and access to and choice of birth settings.
