This book presents the proceedings of ICIEA 2023, the 10th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications, held in Phuket, Thailand, from 4 to 6 April 2023. The conference was conducted in hybrid mode, with close to 100 delegates attending in person and about 50 participants attending online. A total of 272 submissions were received for the conference, of which 120 were accepted for presentation with 83 of those published here as full papers. These papers cover a wide range of topics within the scope of industrial and systems engineering, including but not limited to: supply chain and logistics; quality and reliability; advanced manufacturing; and production scheduling to ergonomics and man-machine systems interfaces. In particular, a significant number of papers are devoted to machine learning techniques and applications beyond the traditional manufacturing sector, to include healthcare, sustainability assessment, and other social issues. Offering an overview of recent research and novel applications, the book will be of interest to all those whose work involves the application of industrial engineering techniques.

Book Bangladesh s Leather Industry

Download or read book Bangladesh s Leather Industry written by Joseph Strasser and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-03 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study provides an overview of how the Bangladeshi leather value chain is organised and governed. It analyses how the leather processing and leather goods/footwear subsectors are integrated into the global market and to what extent informal arrangements including illicit practices are conducive to global market entry. Power relations are dissected along the value chain, in order to analyse how local producers adapt to upholding competitiveness. The results of the work show the need to devise upgrading strategies which pay heed to the reality of informal dynamics in a global value chain (GVC) to improve the local producers’ competitiveness. The GVC perspective was combined with considerations on upgrading, subcontracting, middlemen and informality to adequately analyse the complexity of the transactions in the chain. The data of this study are drawn from empirical field studies in Dhaka, Bangladesh and other sections of the international leather value chain during the time period of 2010 to 2014. A qualitative research approach was complemented with quantitative methods.

Book Productivity Improvement in Manufacturing SMEs

Download or read book Productivity Improvement in Manufacturing SMEs written by Thomas Thinandavha Munyai and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the application of workstudy in productivity of manufacturing SMEs locally and abroad and also explores various industrial problems which face manufacturing SMEs in developing and underdeveloped countries in the rest of the world. Low productivity is currently a serious challenge facing manufacturing SMEs, where these SMEs are operating below expected production output levels which makes it difficult for them to compete in the global market. SMEs are the engine drivers of economic growth, one of which is manufacturing. The challenge is that government from various countries in developing and underdeveloped countries, mandated agencies in their respective areas, to ensure that there is economic progress for these SMEs, but productivity remains low in the manufacturing SMEs. When SMEs do not perform well, productivity of manufacturing SMEs declines and unemployment increases. Thus, an increase in unemployment results in a drop of GDP in the country and can become a global and economic crisis. This book describes a process which enables the reader to use effective knowledge that addresses problems facing the productivity of manufacturing SMEs such as work study tools and case studies and provides solutions and applications to improve the running of the manufacturing SMEs in growing their productivity.

Book Revitalizing Industrial Growth in Pakistan

Download or read book Revitalizing Industrial Growth in Pakistan written by Ernesto Sánchez-Triana and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2014-08-07 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pakistan’s development efforts are guided by its 2011 Framework for Economic Growth, which identifies actions needed to create a prosperous, industrialized Pakistan through rapid and sustainable development. Industrialization has the potential to drive Pakistan’s economic growth and contribute significantly to meeting both economic and human development goals in Pakistan. Expansions of industrialization activities, whether in highly developed or developing countries, can be stimuli for intense debate about such projects’ benefits and costs to the region in which they are to be located, to the national economy—and to human health and the environment. Pakistan’s 2011 Framework for Economic Growth recognizes that, to accelerate industrialization, Pakistan must reduce the cost of doing business and create an incentive structure designed to achieve a competitive, dynamic, and export-driven industrial sector capable of providing employment to the growing labor force. Competing in global markets requires a socially and environmentally sustainable industrialization strategy. The four main inputs for sustainable industrial growth in Pakistan discussed in this book are 1) Macroeconomic stability and sectoral policies to support industrial competitiveness by allowing long-term planning, including investments in infrastructure and cleaner production. 2) Upgraded trade facilitation and infrastructure (particularly transport and energy) to address some of industrialization’s spatial aspects. Improved transport infrastructure will lower production’s environmental costs. 3) Greening of Pakistan’s industrial sector to enhance international competitiveness—“greening” will make Pakistan a more attractive export partner for nations and firms committed to green production. 4) Strong institutions—for example, environmental management agencies to control pollution, and cleaner production centers to increase domestic awareness of international environmental standards—to implement industrialization initiatives effectively, including those for small and medium-sized enterprises. This book provides a comprehensive analysis of issues relating to the debate about Pakistan’s green industrial growth and lays out priorities and strategies for “greening” Pakistan’s industrial growth.
