Book Classic Papers in Modern Diagnostic Radiology

Download or read book Classic Papers in Modern Diagnostic Radiology written by Adrian M.K. Thomas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-09-02 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am very pleased to have been asked to write the foreword to this book. The technical advances in diagnostic radiology in the last few decades have transformed clinical practice and have been nothing short of astonishing. The subject of diagnostic radiology is now very large and radiology depa- ments are involved in all areas of modern patient care. The defining event in m- ern radiology, and arguably the most significant development in radiology since Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-rays, was the invention of the CT scanner in the 1970s.The CT scanner introduced modern cross-sectional imaging and also di- tal imaging. We now have MRI and ultrasound and these techniques are replacing many traditional X-ray procedures. The developments in radiology have been the result of a fruitful interaction between the basic sciences, clinical medicine and the manufacturers. This can be seen by looking at the various sources of these publications. Change is produced by the interactions between the various dis- plines. The editors have had a very difficult task in selecting the key discoveries and descriptions. The radiological literature is very large.Medical imaging continues to develop rapidly and these papers are the foundations of our current practice.

Book Pitfalls in Diagnostic Radiology

Download or read book Pitfalls in Diagnostic Radiology written by Wilfred C. G. Peh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-10 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practice of diagnostic radiology has become increasingly complex, with the use of numerous imaging modalities and division into many subspecialty areas. It is becoming ever more difficult for subspecialist radiologists, general radiologists, and residents to keep up with the advances that are occurring year on year, and this is particularly true for less familiar topics. Failure to appreciate imaging pitfalls often leads to diagnostic error and misinterpretation, and potential medicolegal problems. This textbook, written by experts from reputable centers across the world, systematically and comprehensively highlights the pitfalls that may occur in diagnostic radiology. Both pitfalls specific to different modalities and techniques and those specific to particular organ systems are described with the help of numerous high-quality illustrations. Recognition of these pitfalls is crucial in helping the practicing radiologist to achieve a more accurate diagnosis.

Book Innovations in Diagnostic Radiology

Download or read book Innovations in Diagnostic Radiology written by James H. Anderson and published by Springer. This book was released on 1989 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the new series, "Medical Radiology" addresses the important topic of "Innovations in Diagnostic Radiology". It presents examples of current work of interest not only to the radiological community but to physicians in other medical disciplines and to scientists in general. The impact of radiology on diagnostic medicine and patient management has been obvious from the beginning of our specialty. However, the evolution of the field is expanding at an astounding rate. During the professional lifetime of one generation of radiologists alone, numerous technologies and procedures have been added to conven tional radiography: cross sectional tomography, high resolution nuclear scanning, mag netic resonance imaging, ultrasound, interventional radiology and computer based radi ological operations. The optimal interpretation of images obtained by these new technologies requires that we expand our knowledge in physiology, biochemistry and also in our clinical expertise. It also means that radiologists must collaborate closely with other clinicians and basic scientists.

Download or read book Radiology Today written by Friedrich H. W. Heuck and published by Springer. This book was released on 1983-10-01 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reflects the views of an international faculty and provides an authoritative appraisal of modern radiology. It represents the sec ond volume in a planned series of competent overviews, and is mod eled on the successful first volume, Radiology Today, which was enthu siastically received by an international readership. We were encour aged by the comments we received to continue blending the latest ad vances in radiology with comprehensive teaching material concerning modern radiological practice. The Radiology Today 1982 meeting again brought together outstanding radiologists from Europe and North America for the purpose of sharing their experiences and their viewpoints of the current position and opportunities of imaging in medicine. Updating his/her knowledge of advances in medical imaging has be come an integral part of continuing medical education for every radiol ogist. Because all imaging modalities are continuously being refined, new clinical applications develop and frequently replace more com plex or more invasive procedures. Also, the relationship of imaging procedures to each other changes constantly, and with it the configura tion of critical diagnostic pathways for investigation of clinical signs and symptoms. To recognize this trend is important, because it is ex panding the role of the radiologist: our involvement in active guidance to the point of the patient's diagnostic workup has increased signifi cantly where it has become strategic.
