Book Clairvoyant of the Small

Download or read book Clairvoyant of the Small written by Susan Bernofsky and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first English-language biography of one of the great literary talents of the twentieth century, written by his award-winning translator"Bernofsky takes us into the heart of an artist's life/work struggles, brilliantly illuminating Walser's exquisite sensibility and uncompromising radical innovations, while deftly tracking how his life gradually came apart at the seams. A tragic and intimate portrait."--Amy Sillman "Robert Walser is the perfect pathetic poet: pithy, awkward, drinks too much, sibling rivalrous, ambitious, broke, and mentally ill. Was he proto queer or trans, this red headed writer who next to Gertrude Stein might be the most influential writer of our moment? Riveting and heart-breaking, this biography kept me drunk for days."--Eileen Myles The great Swiss-German modernist author Robert Walser lived eccentrically on the fringes of society, shocking his Berlin friends by enrolling in butler school and later developing an urban-nomad lifestyle in the Swiss capital, Bern, before checking himself into a psychiatric clinic. A connoisseur of power differentials, his pronounced interest in everything inconspicuous and modest--social outcasts and artists as well as the impoverished, marginalized, and forgotten--prompted W. G. Sebald to dub him "a clairvoyant of the small." His revolutionary use of short prose forms won him the admiration of Franz Kafka, Walter Benjamin, Robert Musil, and many others. He was long believed an outsider by conviction, but Susan Bernofsky presents a more nuanced view in this immaculately researched and beautifully written biography. Setting Walser in the context of early twentieth century European history, she provides illuminating analysis of his extraordinary life and work, bearing witness to his "extreme artistic delight."

Book excerpt: A new edition of the landmark, worldwide bestseller on the life of the famed medical clairvoyant and founding father of the New Age: Edgar Cayce. Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) is known to millions today as the grandfather of the New Age. A medical clairvoyant, psychic, and Christian mystic, Cayce provided medical, psychological, and spiritual advice to thousands of people who swore by the effectiveness of his trance-based readings. But Cayce was not always a household name. When a young, skeptical journalist named Thomas Sugrue first met Cayce in 1927 the world had not yet heard of the "sleeping prophet.” During years of unique access, Sugrue completed his landmark biography, which on its publication in 1942 brought national attention to Cayce and stands as the sole record written during the seer’s lifetime. This edition includes a new introduction by historian Mitch Horowitz that highlights the enduring significance of Cayce’s message and the role this book played in its dissemination.

Book Crossing Over

Download or read book Crossing Over written by John Edward and published by Union Square & Co.. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Edward takes his fans with him on the extraordinary journey that has been his life. In the style of his TV show and personal appearances—poignant, funny, and remarkably candid—John Edward deals head-on with the controversial issues he has confronted on his voyage as a psychic medium. On his way to success and fame, John had to learn his own lessons about the meaning of his work, the motivations of some of the people he encountered, and the spirits who accompanied them. Through his very personal stories, John has brought peace and insight to those grieving for their loved ones—but what makes Edward’s memoir unique is how readily he exposes his own vanities and ego bruisings. In addition, he provides a behind-the-scenes look at being a television medium, offering an amusing—and at times disturbing—look at how the ethereal world clashes with the celebrity world. John Edward’s wit, warmth, and passion will captivate readers—just as it has riveted the millions who view his landmark program.

Book The Gift of Life

Download or read book The Gift of Life written by Lois Sheldon and published by . This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reincarnation, or rebirth, a concept of Eastern religions is explored in THE GIFT OF LIFE through the author's personal experiences. Lois Sheldon describes her gradual acceptance of her gifts as a medium and clairvoyant while a suburban mother of six. The retelling of her story takes the form of a letter to her grandson, William. Sheldon believes her work as a past-life therapist has brought her closer to God. She sees her own past lives as a beautiful mosaic with a renewed sense of reverence and awe for what lies unseen in everyone's lives. She believes that as past lives are revealed, we learn our karmic limitations in the present one and the challenges we face. This often involves our relationships with others, including our immediate family, as we are never very far away from members of our soul grouping. Similar to Edgar Cayce, Sheldon receives visions of America's future. She sees the coastline of California submerging as far as Oregon and the American continent splitting into two parts down the middle during a great flood. Sheldon believes, in her words, "this great nation is facing the same kind of awakening which I experienced enlightenment and full realization of the power of God over this earthly creation we inhabit." She points out that the "UFOs" she has seen and describes in detail are also described in the Bible. In 2 Kings 2:11, it says, "behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into Heaven." Ezekial 1:4 also states, "behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it " Jesus himself ascended into a "cloud" and vanished, according to some of his disciples. In THE GIFT OF LIFE, Sheldon reveals why the UFOs, or cosmic ships and boats, as she calls them, from other dimensions are so important for our survival at the present time. She implores us not to listen to all of the "astral gossip" prevalent today, as she predicts a wonderful era of peace, harmony and love following the difficult times immediately ahead. The author believes humans should be preparing for this cleansing by rejoicing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Light Between Us, renowned psychic medium Laura Lynne Jackson shares her incredible story, and teaches us how we can also look for messages from our loved ones who have passed. Laura Lynne Jackson is one of the very few psychic mediums to have passed an eight-step, quintuple-blind screening to become a Certified Research Medium with the prestigious Windbridge Institute for Applied Research in Human Potential. For many years Laura Lynne kept her personal and professional lives separate; by day she was a high school English teacher, but at night she would be having private phone conversations with all kinds of people including celebrities, musicians, astronauts, politicians and CEOs, in an effort to help them speak to their loved ones who had died. Here she tells her incredible true story for the first time. The most astonishing thing that Laura Lynne has discovered during her life is that her gift is not particular to her, or even to just a handful of select people. It is something we can all learn. It is our gift, and as well as telling many stories about the psychic readings she has shared, Laura Lynne also explains the science behind her work, and how we can all find it within ourselves to touch the other side.
