Download or read book Placemaking Fundamentals for the Built Environment written by Dominique Hes and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for all those actively working in the built environment. It presents the latest theory and practice of engaging with stakeholders to co-design, develop and manage thriving places. It starts from the importance of integrating design of nature into practice built on a foundation of First Nations understanding of place. The art of engagement of community, government and the development industry is discussed with reference to case studies and best practice techniques. The book then focuses on the critical role placemaking has in supporting resilience and adaptability of communities and looks at issues of leadership and governance. Building on these steps for placemaking, the last parts of the book address economics, evaluation, digital and art based tools and approaches to support projects that aim to create an engaged, contributive, collaborative and active citizen.

Download or read book Longing for Belonging among the Marginalized in Urban Australia written by Ritsuko Kurita and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-09-23 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Longing for Belonging among the Marginalized in Urban Australia examines how Indigenous people, African refugees, and impoverished Whites in urban Australia, who are deemed “undesirable citizens” under neoliberal governance, experience citizenship in their everyday lives. Drawing on ethnography conducted in Adelaide and Sydney from 2014 to 2020, along with digital ethnography, it elucidates a new sense of belonging being developed across these groups that is mediated by their shared experiences of displacement and predicaments. While individuals of these groups are marginalized due to the reinforcement of race and homogenization of welfare beneficiaries as morally deficient and are ashamed to be aware of their norm violations, a cross-group sense of belonging has emerged that transverses racial and ethnic differences. It is based on mutual care, compassion, and empathy or a community mediated by the ethics of care, fostering a sense of belonging among members who, according to other paradigms of relatedness, might be seen as separate or unequal. Ritsuko Kurita maintains that this new sense of belonging, rooted in caring for others, can contribute to the development of horizontal citizenship by temporarily bridging differences in race, ethnicity, class, and gender, which can challenge neoliberal citizenship that values economic rationality, self-autonomy, and individualism.

Download or read book New Regionalism in Australia written by Mardelene Grobbelaar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Regionalism, promoted as a new paradigm of development by the OECD, suggests that globalization is bringing together new technologies, management, employees and communities to form new patterns of local governance. However, despite the growing influence of New Regionalism in regional development policy in the West, and increasingly in Australia, there has been little debate about the relevance and application of these ideas in Australia. Bringing together contributions from academics, practitioners and policy makers, this book redresses this imbalance by examining the theoretical and empirical foundations of this powerful and growing school of thought, locating the debate firmly in the Australian context. With an opening chapter by Kevin Morgan (Cardiff University), who has been at the heart of the New Regionalism debate, the book provides important insights into the theory and practice of New Regionalism in this vibrant region.
