When the stakes are high, many things out of the ordinary can happen and even alter the course of history. In the new book Larvatus Prodeo©, The Interview, author T. Manning© reveals a long series of fictional events that parallel reality. Larvatus Prodeo©, The Interview follows the enduring story of Dr. Carmine Barre©, whose life and achievements become a hot topic of investigation and debates. The book begins with an extensive interview on the author conducted by famous talk show host Moraima Willco, who believes that the character of Barre is based on Manning himself. The author emphasizes to Willco the concepts, plot and details of his book Larvatus Prodeo©, complete with a biography of Barre, who believes that that sudden explosion of human AIDS could not have occurred without enormous geopolitical and ecological interventions. Barre's career, as readers will discover in this volume, leads him to getting involved with the intelligence service, academics, and to witnessing the international scientific misbehaviors with the international smuggling of genetically engineered viruses in vaccines, a repeat of the equivalent misbehavior by the same scientist in the 1950s with the polio vaccine. • Publisher : Duke University Press

  • ISBN : 147800262X
  • Pages : 269 pages

Download or read book Fugitive Modernities written by Jessica A. Krug and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the early seventeenth century, Kisama emerged in West Central Africa (present-day Angola) as communities and an identity for those fleeing expanding states and the violence of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The fugitives mounted effective resistance to European colonialism despite—or because of—the absence of centralized authority or a common language. In Fugitive Modernities Jessica A. Krug offers a continent- and century-spanning narrative exploring Kisama's intellectual, political, and social histories. Those who became Kisama forged a transnational reputation for resistance, and by refusing to organize their society around warrior identities, they created viable social and political lives beyond the bounds of states and the ruthless market economy of slavery. Krug follows the idea of Kisama to the Americas, where fugitives in the New Kingdom of Grenada (present-day Colombia) and Brazil used it as a means of articulating politics in fugitive slave communities. By tracing the movement of African ideas, rather than African bodies, Krug models new methods for grappling with politics and the past, while showing how the history of Kisama and its legacy as a global symbol of resistance that has evaded state capture offers essential lessons for those working to build new and just societies.

Book The Cuban Intervention in Angola 1965 1991

Download or read book The Cuban Intervention in Angola 1965 1991 written by Edward George and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-11-23 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new examination of why Cuba, a Caribbean country, sent half a million of its citizens to fight in Angola in Africa, and how a short-term intervention escalated into a lengthy war of intervention. It clearly details how in January 1965 Cuba formed an alliance with the Angolan MPLA which evolved into the flagship of its global 'internationalist' mission, spawning the military intervention of November 1975 culminating in Cuba's spurious 'victory' at Cuito Cuanavale and Cuba's fifteen-year occupation of Angola. Drawing on interviews with leading protagonists, first-hand accounts and archive material from Cuba, Angola and South Africa, this new book dispels the myths of the Cuban intervention, revealing that Havana's decision to intervene was not so much an heroic gesture of solidarity, but rather a last-ditch gamble to avert disaster. By examining Cuba's role in the Angolan War in a global context, this book demonstrates how the interaction between the many players in Angola shaped and affected Cuba's intervention as it headed towards its controversial conclusion.

Book Angola

    Book Details:
  • Author : World Bank
  • Publisher : World Bank Publications
  • Release : 2007-01-01
  • ISBN : 0821371037
  • Pages : 216 pages

Download or read book Angola written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once one of the world's largest staple food producers, Angola is now known as a major oil exporter - the second largest producer in sub-Saharan Africa. Angola is also the world's fourth largest producer of rough diamonds in terms of value, with the potential to become one of the leading global diamond producers. In addition to oil and diamonds, the country is well endowed with agricultural resources which remain mostly untapped. However, despite the country's significant natural wealth, a prolonged civil war, the rapid development of the oil sector, and the policies pursued after Independence in 1975 have left the Angolan economy in a unique situation, characterized by very uneven indicators of development. The Angolan economy is now experiencing massive oil windfall gains that are expected to last throughout the next decade. Since oil rents are to a large part concentrated in the public sector, the question of how the oil revenue should be spent and distributed across present and future generations becomes key to any economic development strategy. This study identifies six core areas where a strategic approach for the development of a broad-based growth strategy is required: (i) the incomplete transition to a market economy; (ii) macroeconomic management; (iii) governance and transparency in the management of the mineral wealth; (iv) the business environment; (v) agriculture; and (vi) public service delivery to the poor.

Book The History of Cartography Volume 4

Download or read book The History of Cartography Volume 4 written by Matthew H. Edney and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 1803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its launch in 1987, the History of Cartography series has garnered critical acclaim and sparked a new generation of interdisciplinary scholarship. Cartography in the European Enlightenment, the highly anticipated fourth volume, offers a comprehensive overview of the cartographic practices of Europeans, Russians, and the Ottomans, both at home and in overseas territories, from 1650 to 1800. The social and intellectual changes that swept Enlightenment Europe also transformed many of its mapmaking practices. A new emphasis on geometric principles gave rise to improved tools for measuring and mapping the world, even as large-scale cartographic projects became possible under the aegis of powerful states. Yet older mapping practices persisted: Enlightenment cartography encompassed a wide variety of processes for making, circulating, and using maps of different types. The volume’s more than four hundred encyclopedic articles explore the era’s mapping, covering topics both detailed—such as geodetic surveying, thematic mapping, and map collecting—and broad, such as women and cartography, cartography and the economy, and the art and design of maps. Copious bibliographical references and nearly one thousand full-color illustrations complement the detailed entries.
