Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is based on a true story from a journal I wrote in 1976. I had been offered a job to drive across Europe. This was a planned trip which would terminate in Singapore and included camping across Europe and traveling in a 1966 Ford Comet. The car and the camping became quite a journey. The man I was driving for was wanted by the police and was actually on the runnot that I was aware of any of these things until I arrived back in the UK. There was a third party, who came as a paying passenger. The journey was terminated in Athens due to the fact that the man I was driving for had been fraudulently drawing money from banks as we crossed Europe. I considered it to dangerous to go into the Middle East. The third party and I went to the Greek islands and then traveled back home by ferry and bus.

Book excerpt: And while people are your biggest responsibility, you must also take proactive steps to protect your business interests and your company's assets. Computers and the Internet empower your company, but they are vulnerable to both technical problems and deliberate attacks. Unforeseen Circumstances guides you through the available data storage and security options, from e-mail privacy and secure transactions to wireless networks and satellite-enabled corporate communication. Finally, the book takes a good look at one of the most vital and difficult questions a business will ever face: Who will lead the company when its current leaders are gone? Proper succession planning, though a somber topic, is the sign of a diligent and responsible company planning for the future with complete confidence in a new generation of homegrown leaders. Unforeseen Circumstances lays the groundwork for a sensible plan that, combined with new approaches to security, strategy, and the technologies that will power them, gives today's and tomorrow's leaders the power to keep business thriving -- come what may. Book excerpt: The last thing Cassandra wanted to do was to fall in love with a captain from one of those mega yachts that parked outside of the boat dock she lived on. She was drawn to him from the first moment she saw him, yet she couldn't understand why. Every part of her being told her to run as fast as she could away from this man! Yet, she couldn't stay away. At the time, she had no idea of the danger she would be placed in or the many secrets he had. She had heard that there were modern day pirates in the Caribbean, but never had she come face to face with any...until now. Had she known in the beginning, she may have not fallen prey to unforeseen circumstances.
Download or read book Unexpected Circumstances in European Contract Law written by Ewoud Hondius and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-03 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent financial crisis has questioned whether existing contracts may be adapted, terminated or renegotiated as a result of unexpected circumstances. The question is not a new one. In medieval times the notion of clausula rebus sic stantibus was developed to cope with such situations, and Germany introduced the theory of Wegfall der Geschäftsgrundlage. In England, the Coronation cases provided one possible answer. This comparative study explores the possibility of classifying jurisdictions as 'open' or 'closed' in this regard.

This book was released on 2002-08-27 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of harmonisation of European private law, and European contract law in particular, is rapidly gaining in importance. The topic is not only widely studied by academics and students all over Europe (and even beyond), it is also on the political agenda of the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the European Council. The most important achievement in this field is no doubt the Principles of European Contract Law (PECL), drafted by the Commission on European Contract Law. The European Commission considers the PECL to be a serious option for further harmonisation of European contract law within the European Union. This publication is the first to provide a systematic overview of the PECL in comparison with Dutch contract law as a whole. The book is concise and because of its structure it is easily accessible. Amongst the contributors there are many highly distinguished contract law specialists. It may be used at universities in courses on Comparative Law, European Private Law, and European Contract Law. It may also be used by international practitioners, foreign students, and academics interested in Dutch contract law who do not have access to Dutch contract law because they have no knowledge of the Dutch language. Last but not least, the book will be of interest to all jurists interested in the harmonisation of the European Private Law.
