Book The Effect of Right View Pro on Bat Velocity and Batted ball Exit Velocity in College Baseball Players

Download or read book The Effect of Right View Pro on Bat Velocity and Batted ball Exit Velocity in College Baseball Players written by Dan McKinney and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of Right View Pro© Video Analysis on bat speed and batted-ball exit velocity were evaluated in 29 male collegiate student-athletes. The 29 athletes were divided into three groups and evaluated on both dependent variables (bat speed and batted-ball exit velocity). Group A participated in weight training only, Group B participated in weight training and video analysis, and Group C participated in weight training, video analysis, and Right View Pro© video analysis. The Pocket Radar© was used to measure bat speed of each individual, while the Stalker Radar Sport 2 Radar Gun© was used to measure the speed of the batted-ball exit velocity. On the initial day of testing (September 3rd, 2013), participants completed their baseline bat speed and batted-ball exit velocity. After two semesters of the academic year (until May 6th, 2014), participants completed their post-test on bat speed and batted-ball exit velocity. A one way analysis of variance with post-hoc Tukey was used to analyze the data. The analysis of variance showed no significant difference between the three groups, p=0.18. The batted-ball exit velocity was significantly different (p=0.02), between Group A and Group B only. The Tukey post hoc criteria for significance indicated that a significant difference existed between Group A (Weight Training only) and Group B (Weight Training and Video Analysis), HSD (0.5) =5.44; HSD (.01) =6.97; and M1 vs. M2 P

Book An Analysis of Visual Discriminatory Skill of Baseball Players During the First 200 Milliseconds of a Pitch

Download or read book An Analysis of Visual Discriminatory Skill of Baseball Players During the First 200 Milliseconds of a Pitch written by Randy Hyllegard and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary goal of the study was to determine if and how baseball players discriminate the rotational direction of an approaching pitch during the first 200 milliseconds of the flight of the ball. In addition, college-level baseball coaches were surveyed to assess the level of agreement between coaches relative to what are the most useful cues in batting. Pitches thrown in six professional baseball games were also analyzed to determine the frequency of different types of pitches, and to measure how successful professional batters are in hitting the ball. Sixty subjects viewed film of pitches and recorded whether the pitch was thrown with overspin or underspin. The independent variables were direction of rotation, viewing time, seam type, and pitching agent. Thirty college-level baseball coaches were surveyed to establish their opinion's on the importance of the different perceptual cues available to a batter in making a swing decision. First, the coaches rated the usefulness of cues in pitch identification during the early flight of the ball. Second, they rated which cues are most useful in making a swing decision. Finally, they rated the relative importance of perceptual versus conceptual cues in batting. The following results were noted: (1) the baseball group could discriminate the rotational direction of a pitch within the first 200 milliseconds of the flight of the ball; (2) the baseball group used information detected from the seams of the ball to discriminate between pitches; (3) the baseball coaches were divided on which cues are most useful for discriminating between pitches during the early flight of the ball; (4) the coaches agreed that the single most important factor in making a swing decision is location; and (5) the coaches were divided on whether perceptual or conceptual information is most important in batting. It was recommended that coaches, teachers, and instructors should teach their players to use rotational information to help them discriminate between pitches. Additionally, baseball players should understand the basis of ball dynamics in order to understand how rotation affects the flight of the ball.

Book Relationships Between Throwing Velocity and Selected Kinematics in Youth Baseball Players

Download or read book Relationships Between Throwing Velocity and Selected Kinematics in Youth Baseball Players written by Nick Hedgecock and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Research investigating baseball position players has been limited primarily to pitchers. The current study examined several kinematic variables and their relationship with ball velocity in middle and high school-aged baseball players using two-dimensional (2D) motion analysis. The purpose of this study was to investigate these relationships using 2D motion analysis and compare these results to those reported in the literature using 3D analysis. Thirteen baseball players (15.31 ± 1.25 yrs., 72.29 ± 10.79 kg and 177.09 ± 5.59 cm tall) participated in the study. A video camera was used to record three throwing trials for each participant. Four reflective markers were placed on the participants to identify anatomical landmarks of interest on the players. Video trials were digitized in 2D using commercially available Dartfish software. Trunk side bend and knee flexion angle at foot contact, and trunk flexion, knee flexion, and knee extension velocity at ball release were calculated. Intra-rater reliability of ten re-digitized trials using Pearson's inter-item correlation was very high (r = 0.99, p
